ON THE COVERThe cover photo features Holly M. Sweat, a PCC Human Resource Development instructor with more than 20 years of experience successfully helping people in career transition. Holly is currently teaching "Overcoming Job-Seeking Barriers and Blunders." This 4-hour class provides students with the tried and true secrets of what employers are looking for in potential employees and offers tips on creating effective resumes, completing applications, and writing cover letters that get noticed.

PCC also offers "Secrets of Landing a Job" a 12-hour class that provides attendees insight on the "hidden job market' and tips for preparing a dynamic resume, acing the interview, and making great first impressions.

These classes are part of the HRD program offered through Continuing Education. The goal of this program is to help anyone that is unemployed or underemployed successfully navigate their job search. Our classes are FREE to those who qualify and teaches the skills, behaviors, and work values that are required for success in the workplace.

PCC is working in collaboration with the Pitt County NCWorks Career Center to help individuals who are unemployed or underemployed prepare for the job market and land their next job.

Neal Anderson, manager of the N.C. Department of Commerce's Division of Workforce Solutions, says Sweat's classes provide clients with the tools and strategies necessary to find jobs suited to fit their needs. "Clients we have referred to these classes have returned to tell us how effective, meaningful, helpful, enlightening and, in some cases, life-changing the classes have been," states Anderson. "All of the clients who have taken these classes are interviewing for jobs."

For more information on these classes or the HRD program, please contact Holly Sweat at (252) 493-7345 or visit www.pittcc.edu/continuing-education.

Before coming to the Secrets class, I thought I had a good resume. I was getting frustrated not hearing back on job applications. After coming to Holly's class, I am networking more and feel more prepared for interviews.

We will be doing a lot of work with Google Apps and different online materials that many schools are utlilizing in their daily assignment and projects. We will be defining what makes a good digital citizen and how to make informed decisions when working on the Internet. Campers will also learn how technology can foster collaboration to help complete projects and will allow you to work with other students around the globe. *For this camp, all campers will need a parent to sign them up for a Google account or give them their own Gmail login information.

3D Sculpture & Jewelry Design (Ages 7-12)Join us in an exploration of 3D Sculpture and Jewelry Design. Campers will learn how to create two kinds of sculptures that they would then paint as well as become involved in creating jewelry. The jewelry would be hammered copper pendants and the campers will learn how to braid or weave cord for necklaces.

3D Modeling (Ages 11-18)Would you like to learn to make 3-dimensional objects from a computer model? In this camp you will be introduced to new softwares including “Sketch Up”, “Solidworks” and “GibbsCam”. Then you will take your 3D files and make them using cool 3D printers, metalworking machinery, CNC machines and more. Learn all that technology has to offer!

Electronics & Robotics (Ages 7-11) Ever wondered how electronic things work? This camp will show you a variety of electronic concepts. Campers will build and network computers, build and program LEGO mindstorm projects, and experience the day in the life of a techy!
