Blues Society Formed in

Dayton, Ohio Although the little city of Dayton, Ohio is no Memphis or Chicago and the Great Miami River looks nothing like the Mississippi Delta, the heritage of the blues is wedged deep in the soul of this Miami Valley area. From Robert Ward & the Ohio Untouchables and the great Piney Brown to the rippin’ blues jams of Snapper Mitchum and the Blues In-vaders, blues music has been an in-separable part of our musical history. And now we join many in trying to preserve and promote that part of us by forming the Dayton Blues Society.

Established in the spring of 2008, the society signed its first members at the Dayton Blues Festival on July 20th of that year and now have monthly blues jams throughout Dayton. Held on the second Sunday of each month, the DBS jam is held at a different location and hosted by a different band. Other major events include the “Road to Memphis” Blues Challenge, the Winter Blues Showcase, and the Blues for a Cure Benefit for the American Cancer So-ciety. For more info go to:

Dayton Blues Society Takes Blues Into the

Schools

In February, 2010 The Dayton Blues Society launched its Blues in the Schools (BITS) Program with a presentation for approximately 50 students at the Dayton View Academy. The program is designed to give a brief history of the blues: its origins, varying paths/styles, major influ-ences …... while playing examples with our live “Blues in the Schools” band. Since then we have traveled to many school across the Miami Valley - small, acoustic settings - played with students currently enrolled in school band - and played for a gymnasium full of students in an amplified version of our BITS program.

If you know of a school who would invite us in for our free program please contact:
