Dear Members,
This is our 4th Newsletter which contains details of membership renewal,
forthcoming Navratri Festival, Havan and Diwali and other events
organised for you.
You are recommended to read and comply with the membership renewal
request and note the conditions for attending the Navratri Festival.
Please also read about the progress that has been made on the porta cabin
development project and about the special membership offer for BSNL
members who are 65 and over.

GOOD NEWS!!!
Porta cabin Development
I am delighted to advise that Brent Council have approved our
application for the replacement of the current Porta Cabin with a
purpose built two story Building.
Further details will be circulated to members in the next newsletter.
Thank you to all those who contributed in getting this approval.
Special Life Membership offer
Following the success of BSNL getting planning permission, the fund raising team and the membership team would like to kick start the fund raising efforts by bringing an offer which is only valid for 2016/2017.
Any member who is aged 65 or over (Senior Citizen) donating not less than £ 101.00 towards the New Building will be offered a free life membership worth £ 251.00.
This offer is only valid for any BSNL Senior Citizen member and does not apply if you have been a Senior Citizen member of BSNL for less than 3 years as at 31st August 2016.

Membership Renewal
Annual membership of BSNL expires on 31st August 2016.
The Renewal form is attached so if you have not renewed your membership then
please complete the attached form or down load the renewal form
from www.bsnl.org.uk.
Completed forms should be sent to Mr Hitesh Purohit, Membership Trustee at the address on the
form.
Please be aware that we will not be renewing membership at Navratri. This is to avoid huge queues at
the front gate. We will, however, be on hand throughout the festival to answer any membership related
queries.
In an effort to cut down the number of envelopes we send out, we are moving towards sending
circulars by email. This will both save the Samaj some money, but also, will benefit the environment. If
you would prefer to receive circulars by email only, please tick next to the email address field in the
membership renewal form.

Information Morning
Dear Parents,

NAVRATRI 2016
This year, NAVRATRI will be celebrated from 1st Oct 2016 to 10th Oct
2016 (excluding 2nd and 3rd Oct 2016), SHARAD POONAM will be
on Friday 14th October 2016.
The Brahmin Society North London, Bardai Brahm Samaj London and
UK Valam Brahmin Association have jointly arranged Navratri Festival

Children’s Garba Afternoon - Sun 2nd
Oct, 2pm – 5pm
We will once again be encouraging our young ones (and their parents or grandparents) to get
together at BSNL hall to enjoy good music and garba together.
There will be no entrance fee for children under 16. Over 16’s will be requested to make a £1
contribution which will be used towards refreshments for the children.
Members are welcome to bring prashad, however please ensure all sweets etc. are approved as
suitable for vegetarians so that they are appropriate for offering to Mataji and please make organisers
aware of/label items containing nuts to avoid risk of allergic reaction.

Garba at our Hall – Monday 3rd
Oct 2016, 8pm – 11pm
JFS School is NOT available on Sunday 2nd October and Monday 3rd October 2016 during the
Navratri Festival. Instead of missing the opportunity to celebrate and honour Mataji for the full nine
days of the festival, we will be holding the Childrens’ garba on Sun 2nd Oct, in the afternoon, and on
Mon 3rd Oct, in the evening for all our members. Both events will be held at our hall on East Lane.
When? Monday 3rd October 2016 from 8pm to 11pm.
Where? BSNL Community Centre 128 East Lane North Wembley Middlesex HA03NL
There will be no entrance fee for this evening however donations will be gladly accepted.
Music will be provided by our own in-house musicians.

E_Group Garba – Tue 4th

E-Group Navaratri celebrations will be held on Tuesday 4th October 2016 in the main upstairs hall and
will commence at 11am and finish at 4.30pm.
Diwali in London at Trafalgar Sq– Sun 16th
Oct 2016
The Mayor of London and the Diwali in London (DIL) committee, of which BSNL are members,
are proud to announce that this year’s Diwali in Trafalgar Square will be celebrated on Sunday
16th October 2016 from 2 pm to 7 pm.
This is a free event open to all. Come early and enjoy the day!
If you would like to volunteer for the day, you are requested to contact Harshaben Trivedi on
079566586926. Volunteering duties include issuing passes, serving food and distributing
prashad (to mention a few).
Houses of Parliament Trip – Wed 19

Oct 2016, 9:50am
Our popular trip to the houses of parliament is back! It has been confirmed for 9:50 am on 19th October 2016. Please make your own way to the venue and arrive 30 minutes prior to the start time at the Westminster Hall. There are only 20 tickets and it's on first come first serve basis. HAVAN ~ Sat 22nd

The ever popular BSNL Navchandi Havan will be held at Kadawa Patidar Centre, Kenmore Avenue,
Harrow Middlesex UB5 6RE on Sat 22nd Oct 2016, from 9am - 5pm. Mahaprashad served thereafter.
Please note that bidding for Yajman will be on Sunday 9th October 2016– Atham day during Navaratri.
Help us to get ready for the Havan:
~ Ladu making and the start of the Mahaprashad preparations will take place on Thur 20th Oct
2016, at our BSNL Hall. If you can help us, please give your names to Kamal Purohit or Parul Jani, we
can even help you get to us (contact Parulben for transport needs). Lunch will be provided.
~ If you would like to learn about and get involved with the actual setup of the Havan Kund, contact
Kamal Purohit or Parul Jani.
~ If you enjoy decorating, and can help us to make the Kadva Patidar Hall look beautiful for Mataji,

Diwali Dhamaka 2016– Sat 12th
Nov 2016,

This year, the BSNL Diwali Dhamaka programme will be held on Sat 12th Nov at Kenton
Hall, Woodcock Hill, Kenton, Harrow HA3 0PQ from 6 pm to 11.00 pm,
The evening will start with dinner, which will be followed by Music by Musical Stars, and
Dancing by YOU!
Tickets are
Adults - £16 members, £17 non-members and £8 for Children (aged from 5 to 12).

BSNL Dance Group
Are you a true Garba dancer? Are you aged 16 to 50? Yes? Then we would like to welcome you to
join our BSNL Garba group, headed by Prarthna Pancholi. Learn the moves and then show them off
at various events, including our BSNL Diwali Dhamaka evening!
Practices will be held at BSNL HALL between 8pm to 9:30pm on a working day (tbc), once a week.

The BSNL Subgroups
The BSNL Children’s Culture Club
Dear Members,
Culture Club (CC) is a fun club for all BSNL children aged between 5 and 18.
We meet every Saturday (10 sessions per school term), between 2 and 5 pm, at BSNL house.
During our sessions, children learn about:
Hindu and Gujarati culture, history and religion, during ‘topic time’
The Gujarati language
Singing (bhajans, garbas, aartis, lok-geet, etc)
Dance (traditional, folk and fusion bollywood styles)
Yoga and keep-fit
in a relaxed, friendly environment.
We charge £20 for 10 weeks (3 hours each week), which goes towards paying for our resources as
well as a snack, which children enjoy together each week.

Abhilasha Aims to provide activities for Ladies in our Samaj. We also organise functions for our Members from time to time. Due to unpredictable weather in July and the holiday period together with the religious month of Shravan in August, it was appropriate not to hold the planned activities for our abhilasha ladies, however, we will try to accommodate these in the near future. Club3060…
Recently, a new sub group was set up for the 30’s to 60’s BSNL members by Bijal, Pramath and Hitesh. The primary aim to provide a range of activities for BSNL members aged between 30 and 60. This was set up. We had an inaugural meeting on 29th April at 8pm where we brainstormed ideas and over the last few months have several events. The idea is that we meet up once a month and have a variety of events to suit most, ranging from movie nights to theatre nights. In May, we had a movie night with about 30 people attending. We had freshly prepared pizzas, made by Jitin Dixit and his family. We watched a Hindi comedy (and it was funny), followed by freshly made apple crumble, made by Parul Jani. In June, we had a karaoke night with about 10 people attending. Bhel and Pani Puri were the delights of the evening. In July, we hosted the first ever BSNL pub quiz at the White Horse in Harrow. I think most of the attendees came for a good night out, rather than to win. If you are interested and want to join, who you going to call? Of course, either one of us. BSNL E-group
Our elders are having fun every Tuesday – with bhojan, bhajan and manoranjan – a super day out for
them amongst friends. We start at 12 and finish at 4 pm with a full vegetarian lunch in-between – which
is usually donated by our members and their families celebrating their birthdays, anniversaries, and
other events. They get pleasure and satisfaction in feeding fellow elderly Brahmins.
Not many people know that we also run our eGroup yoga (eYoga) classes every week under the
leadership of Mrs Nirmalaben Rawal.
We have lots of volunteers giving selfless service to our elders – too many to name – but certainly very
much appreciated! Thank-you to all of you!
I am grateful for the support given by our Board of Trustees to our Elders Group and look forward to
many golden year ahead!

Congratulations to Anand Subramaniam (son of
Veena Subramaniam) for passing his final exams
with 90% and getting a first Class Honours in BSc
(Eng.) Multimedia and Arts Technology with
Industrial Experience and also for being awarded
a Multimedia and Arts Technology Finalist prize of
£100 for outstanding achievement.

Chapel Royal at St Paul Cathedral in
celebrations of the Queens 90th birthday, which
was broadcast live on the BBC.

‘Volunteering’ hours – if you are able to help with the running of the club (e.g. by
teaching Gujarati if you have a G.C.S.E in the subject)
‘Skill’ hours – as we teach ‘Gujarati’ & ‘Singing’
‘Physical Activity’ – as we have a weekly Yoga session.
