It is near the end of the year and there have been numerous activities arranged during the year.
Navratri and Havan functions were all well attended and everyone who attended these programmes enjoyed them. See detailed reports on the various programmes held in September and October.
I am sure members who have purchased tickets for the BSNL Diwali Dhamaka, to be held on Saturday 19th November 2016, at Kenton Hall,Woodstock Hill Kenton Harrow HA3 0PQ, from 6 pm to 11pm will have a very enjoyable time with music by Jayu Raval and Veda.
Thank you to all those very many members who renewed their membership before the start of Navratri. This was a great help to the organisers during the actual Navratri function. If you have not yet renewed your membership, the form and details are on our website- www.bsnl.org.uk.
Our AGM is on Sunday 11th December 2016 from 3 pm and it is at this time that you have the opportunity to know what our Society has done throughout the year and how it carries out various activities. This year also we are organising to sing 11 Hanuman Chalisa before the AGM and also to provide a simple but delicious dinner after the AGM. Come and join us and contribute to make BSNL a successful organisation for all us to be proud of.

Special Life Membership OfferThe BSNL fund raising team and the membership team bring an offer which is onlyvalid for 2016/2017.
Any member who is aged 65 or over (Senior Citizen) donating not less than £ 101.00 towards the New Building will be offered a free life membership worth £ 251.00. Please note that this offer is only valid for any BSNL Senior Citizen member and does not apply if you have been a Senior Citizen member of BSNL for less than 3 years as at 31st August 2016.

Recent Past Events…11Plus and Secondary School Transfer Information Morning – Sun 25 Sept, 11am – 12noon (convenors: Truptiben Joshi & Jugnooben Pandya) Mrs Jungoo Pandya, of Sunshine Learning, put together and delivered this information morning, to help parents during this difficult transitional time.
Singalong Karaoke - Sunday 25th Sept, 3pm – 6:30pm (convenor: Anjanaben Thakar)It was splendid to see BSNL in good voice at this lively and enjoyable afternoon event!
Thank you to all who attended and made the event a great success: everyone had fun, food was delicious and we received a lot of positive comments/feedback.
Navratri 2016 at JFS (convenors: The JSC)Once again BSNL, together with the UKVBA and BBSL united for a spiritual and fun filled festival to celebrate Navratri. Not only did we honour mataji, but we were also able help the wider community – many of you made generous food donations for the Suffra Food Bank, who distribute collections amongst the needy! Thank you to you all for your support and generous contributions!

The BSNL Subgroups
The BSNL Children’s Culture Club,Culture Club (CC) is a fun club for all BSNL children aged between 5 and 18.
We meet every Saturday (10 sessions per school term), between 2:15 and 4:30pm, at BSNL house. During our sessions, children learn about:
Hindu and Gujarati culture, history and religion, during ‘topic time’ The Gujarati language Singing (bhajans, garbas, aartis, lok-geet, etc) Dance (traditional, folk and fusion bollywood styles) Yoga and keep-fit
in a relaxed, friendly environment.
We charge £20 for 10 weeks, which goes towards paying for our resources aswell as a snack, which children enjoy together each week.

HAVAN ~ Sat 22 nd Oct 2016 (convenors: Kamalben Purohit and Parulben Jani) This year the Havan was held on 22nd October at Kadwa Patidar Hall, Kenton, Harrow. As usual with the blessings of mataji the event was well attended with over 800 people joining us for mahaprashad. This year the Yajman was Pushkarbhai Acharya and Family who had their grandson Bhavik and his new bride Nikita be the main yajman. This was the youngest couple sitting for pooja in the history of BSNL havans. Thank you to the Acharya family for being an absolute pleasure to host.
This event is only possible due to the ongoing support of our volunteers who work tirelessly for 3 days making 1782 ladoos, setting up the havan kund and stapna, making mahaprashad, serving lunch and mahprashad, serving with a smile and last but not least cleaning up at the end. It needs immense hard work. Ask any of the volunteers and they will always say 'Had so much fun sign us up for next year'. Thank you to all who made this havan a success.
A small note from our yajman:-
It has been a great honour to sit in the 2016 Nav Chandni Havan on behalf of our grandparents, Mr. Pushkarray J. and Mrs. Pushpagauri P. Acharya. We would like to thank the committee and volunteers at BSNL for organising this auspicious ceremony and all of the guests who attended the event. BSNL E-groupDear Members,We celebrated 4 successful consecutive years of our re-launched Elders Group in September with a Birthday Special event with lots of fun, food and frolic! This was followed by our special Elders Navaratri Celebrations and our eGroup Diwali Dhamaka. And now we are getting ready for our Elders Xmas Party! Our elders are having fun every Tuesday – with bhojan, bhajan and manoranjan – a super day out for them amongst friends. A day they look forward to every week.But our popularity has meant an on-going “House Full” situation due to the limited capacity of our hall. We have been able to issue membership to over 120 BSNL elders and we will be able to offer more memberships once our Porta-Cabin is replaced with our brand new 2 story building planned for next year. In the mean while we will continue to invite those on our waiting list whenever we have vacancies. October is also our eGroup membership renewal time – when we get a chance to review and give priority to those over the age of 65 who have been long term members of BSNL.We are fortunate that we have so much support from our members and the Board of Trustees that we have been able to continue offering free lunch every Tuesday and also generate surplus funds in the form of donations which we will allocate to our New Building Fund. And all our volunteers are working with good-will and free of any charge. BSNL Porta-Cabin Replacement New Building Project
Dear Members,We are delighted that we have obtained planning permission from Brent Council to replace our aging Porta-Cabin with a brand new purpose built 2 story building that will serve all our members from our very young Childrens Culture Club to our Young Brahmins, to our Club 30-60 to our ladies wing Abhilasha to our Elders Group and of course our main BSNL members' functions and activities and will be available for private hire also by members and the local community.
The project will cost around £450,000 and we are in the fortunate position that we already have half of the funds needed. We need your support to raise the remaining funds please. We are pleased to announce that since gaining planning permission we have been able to raise £36,000 – the biggest donation pledge of £21,000 coming from Mr Navalshankerbhai Vyas. We have also had several £1,001 donations. If we get a few more of these we will be well sorted for funds.
Also to help raise funds we are offering Life Membership of BSNL to those the age 65 or over and who have been BSNL members for at least three years for a one-off fee of £101. If you are in this category then please do take advantage of this special offer.
We have applied for Big Lottery Funding and are also talking to the banks for loans.
We are glad to report that an anonymous offer of a loan of £50,000 has been made to BSNL for this project. Again, if some more members are happy to give similar loans we will not need to take out expensive bank loans.
Our target project plan is to secure the funds by March 2017 and start construction work in April for completion and opening ceremony some time in November 2017. With all of working together and God willing we will be able to achieve this.

Dear Members,BSNL’s Anjanaben Thaker, BSNL Trustee and Abhilasha Chairperson, recently received the following email from Katie Hann, of University College London (UCL), who is working on a project called PROMISE.
“I am writing to ask for your help in reaching out to South Asian women who are part of your Abhilasha group and might be interested in taking part in a focus group discussion. This would involve women meeting together in a small group with two members of the research team for about 1 hour. Travel costs to a local venue will be reimbursed for those who take part, and we would also like to offer a £20 gift voucher to participants as a thank you.”
