What can we support?

We can support activities which meet a training need or help your project or organisation to develop in some way. You will need to tell us the outcome you will achieve and how this will benefit your organisation, community and/or the community asset sector as a whole.

We are particularly interested in supporting proposals that will help you to involve young people in community ownership initiatives.

What funding is available?

• Assistance towards the cost of event fees plus travel and accommodation costs.

• Assistance towards travel and accommodation costs associated with a study or exchange visit to learn from others and share ideas. Study visit proposals can include a payment for the host organisation.

• Assistance to cover the costs to organise, manage and host a training seminar relevant to the community assets sector. Assistance includes a management fee for the group. Ideally these events should be held in a community-owned venue.

How can I find out more?

Please contact us if you would like to:

• Request funding

• Discuss your ideas for a training seminar

• Ask about the range of topics we are keen to support

• Find out what events are being planned

Maximising Community Assets is a support programme which helps to develop the skills and knowledge of people actively involved in community ownership of income-generating assets.

Communities in the Highlands and Islands now own over 420,000 acres of land. Other assets, such as renewable energy schemes, community hubs, shops, cinemas, workshop units and houses are also owned and managed locally for community benefit.

The community asset sector is diverse but the common thread is that people living locally are working to provide a range of services, build infrastructure and create employment to make their communities stronger and more resilient.

People are the key asset in community ownership – Maximising Community Assets helps to develop their potential.

We can help with costs to:

• Attend a conference or event

• Go on a study or exchange visit

• Run your own training seminar

Who can we support?

We can support community-led organisations that own, or aspire to own, income-generating assets for community benefit. We can only support activities that benefit community-led organisations located in the HIE operating area.
