Enter a Photo in Our Grandparents Day Contest Grandparent’s day is September 11, and Cunningham Telephone & Cable wants to help you honor these special members of your family by holding a Grandparents Day Contest. We’re ask-ing you to submit your favorite photo of your grandparents — either an old photo or a current one — along with a brief note about why they were (or are) the best.

For example, you might write: “During my childhood, I always looked up to my grandparents. They spoiled all of us grandkids rotten during our visits, and they made us feel special.”

Email your photo and note to alicamctc@nckcn.com by August 31. All photos and accompanying words will be up-loaded to the Cunningham Telephone & Cable Facebook page to be voted on by the public. The winning entry will be announced on September 9, and that person will receive a prize from us. (We’re not sure yet what the prize will be; we’re still shopping!)

July is National Independent Retailer Month Shopping locally and supporting small businesses is the focus of National Independent Retailer Month, which is celebrated in July. The promotional campaign began in the U.S. in 2011 and has since expanded to Canada and the United Kingdom.

During this annual event, we’re asked to remember the many benefits of doing business with independent retailers (as opposed to big box retailers or chain stores). For example, when you shop at a small local store, more of your dollars stay here to help the local economy. Plus, local businesses provide the most new jobs nationally, and new local businesses have the potential to create high-paying jobs in the form of business ownership.

Think of it this way. We celebrate Independence Day on July 4, and throughout the month, we celebrate independent retailers. Cunningham Telephone & Cable is proud to be your local provider and encourages you to buy local whenever possible.

Employee Spotlight:CRAIG SLATE Craig Slate is one of our newest employ-ees here at Cunningham Telephone & Cable. Craig started in April and comes to us with telecommunications experi-ence. He moved here from Louisburg, KS, where he was a central office tech. Craig will be one of our network technicians. He is looking forward to learning more about our cable system as this will be new to him.

Craig lives with his wife Kyla in the country, south of Glen Elder. He enjoys hunting, fishing and raising chickens and bottle calves.
