There’s no secret formula to success in recruitment – it’s all about the people.

Ask anyone at Axon Moore what’s the best thing about working here and the reply is likely to be “the team”!

I’m really proud of the individuals who make up the business we have built over the last 16 years; we have a superb record of retention that is unusual in the industry and I hope this shows that we are doing something right! The common theme across everyone who works here is most definitely a great sense of humour – we take work seriously but know how to have fun.

Our continuous double digit growth for the last 5 years is a credit to the hard work and commitment of all our employees and I’m looking forward to further strengthening the team with similarly talented and like-minded professionals. I’d be delighted to talk to you if you think we are what you’re looking for.

Andy Edwards | Managing Director

Who we are

In 2015 Watson Moore and Axon Resourcing came together as Axon Moore. Both businesses were already extremely well respected in their markets with terrific teams of specialist consultants and many years’ success in the sector.

Along with our sister company, Axon Resourcing, who specialises in recruitment into the public and not for profit sectors, we now operate from 7 offices nationwide, with over sixty employees including 50 consultants. This means we can offer our clients and candidates the best of both worlds – superb local knowledge built up over many years, combined with a national reach.

We leave micro-management to others, preferring to focus on personal development through support and training. We are family friendly, promote flexible working and provide our consultants with all the tools necessary to work successfully in an increasingly technology driven market.

We are very proud of the relationships we have developed over the years and think our testimonials best sum up what our clients like about the way we do business. In the industry we are known as a safe pair of hands, honest and trustworthy.

What is our culture?

The culture of ourbusiness is probablybest summed up bythe people who liveit day to day

It’s a totally different culture and work environment to other recruiters. There’s a real emphasis on supporting you and working with you rather than getting as many CVs out of the door as possible. Yes there’s pressure to perform but if things aren’t going your way or you’re struggling with something – it’s a question of “what can we do to help?

I feel very lucky to be surrounded by such good, fun people who I genuinely enjoy working with. I spend a lot of my day laughing – maybe more than I should! Plus I think we all look out for each other, everyone is very open and fair. The Directors also treat the staff really well, you don’t feel like a number.

I really enjoy the autonomy I am given and the fact I have the freedom to dictate the way I work day to day.

This is truly grown up recruitment; everyone is funny, interesting, driven & ambitious, fair, respectful and different.

I have a good balance between work and family life which is unusual in this business. In the office we are well looked after, with fresh fruit and regular massage – Happy Days!

What’s the best thing about working at Axon Moore? My colleagues – all of which I’d be happy to go for a drink with on a Friday evening – that’s normally a good sign!

What does a typical day consist of for you?Either run to work or get in early and go to the gym - currently training for the Manchester marathon.Shower, followed by a strong coffee or, on a Friday, team breakfast baps! The first hour or so is usually responding to emails, applications and LinkedIn messages. Depending on my work load which at present is very job heavy I spend time sourcing candidates with the help of our Researcher and arranging interviews for the weekNext I’ll market candidates to agreed businesses – normally warm calls to clients we already know or a quick email. My day usually includes a candidate interview and often a meeting with a client, sometimes over lunch or a coffee.I finish work at different times during the week depending on work load and either run home, or head to the gym if I didn’t go in the morning.

I’m a graduate in Human Geography from Leeds Metropolitan University and joined Axon Moore in 2013. I recruit qualified accountants across Yorkshire and the North East.

What could you not get through the day without?Cliché…but nice coffee. And the odd bag of sweets.

An interesting fact about yourselfI have two middle names….Jethro and Spencer. In three words, how would your colleagues describe you?Special, Funny, Outgoing!

What sort of person would you recommend Axon Moore to?Someone who wants to work in an adult (and fun) environment where you are not micromanaged. You’re free to get on with things and mould your market but have the support around you to succeed. Someone who doesn’t want to have their call stats monitored!

What’s the best thing about working at Axon Moore? The people – I have been here for 6 years, and have never woken thinking that I did not want to go into work. The people make the business and I feel like I am working with a great group of mates all striving towards the same goal.

What does a typical day consist of for you?As an interim consultant no two days are ever the same. A very loose structure would be that I arrive at the office at about 8:15am and leave at about 6pm, part of what I love about recruitment is that you do not know what each day is going to bring! My wife and I have just had a baby boy and so I am currently learning how to cope with no sleep!

I joined Axon Moore at the beginning of 2010, and have since successfully recruited across both permanent and temporary markets in the North West and the West Midlands. I now manage the West Midlands office and am responsible for interim recruitment into the private sector with a focus on the qualified finance market. I’m a graduate of Loughborough University and swam competitively for Wales in my younger days!

What sort of person would you recommend Axon Moore to?To be successful at Axon Moore, you have to be driven and ambitious with strong commercial acumen. I also think that it is important to be honest, and professional and most importantly have a good sense of humour!

What could you not get through the day without?Coffee – Following the birth of my first child I have a new found love for very strong coffee!

An interesting fact about yourselfI am sure that my colleagues are all bored of hearing about it, but I swam in the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. It was an awesome experience!

In three words, how would your colleagues describe you?Having asked around I have been described as Supportive, Driven, and Lovely (not sure what I think of the last one)

What’s the best thing about working at Axon Moore? KPIs are kept in perspective and you are treated like an adult taking full responsibility for your own desk. Also, the Directors have such a fantastic reputation in the senior finance and private equity markets that they are able to make good introductions to clients who want to work with us, which makes the role more enjoyable.

In 2012 I left recruitment for a couple of years but I missed it, and when I realised I wanted to move back into the industry I knew there was only one place I could go! It sounds dreadfully cheesy but I wouldn’t want to do this job anywhere else.

What does a typical day consist of for you?My day always starts with a large Starbucks! I get into the office at 8.30 am and the first thing I do is go through my emails; this normally involves arranging meetings with candidates who have applied to adverts or contacted me on LinkedIn.

What happens for the rest of my day really depends on my workload; if I have a number of active jobs then my primary focus will be sourcing candidate and organising interviews. Otherwise I’ll make time to do some business development maybe sending out a particularly good candidate to a targeted market using an email shot.

I try to speak to a few key clients every day even when I’m very busy with jobs and the rest of my day seems to get filled pretty quickly with typical recruitment admin!

I studied Psychology and Sociology at the University of Reading and have since spent over 9 years in recruitment including time in rec2rec and umbrella payroll. I recruit qualified interims across the North West into a variety of roles.

What could you not get through the day without?A good laugh and a Starbucks!

An interesting fact about yourselfI hate this question, it makes me feel very uninteresting! In three words, how would your colleagues describe you?Loud, fun, team player (sorry that’s 4)

What sort of person would you recommend Axon Moore to?I think experienced recruiters who are able to manage their own workload with a light touch management style would enjoy working at Axon Moore.

What’s the best thing about working at Axon Moore? The people; it truly is grown up recruitment. Everyone is funny, interesting, driven & ambitious, fair, respectful and different.

What does a typical day consist of for you?No day is the same in recruitment, we spend a lot of time meeting clients and candidates, building relationships and networks. I have 3 children under 5 years old including identical twin boys, my pre and post work day is very busy.

I joined Axon Moore in 2009 and focus on qualified permanent finance recruitment across the West Midlands up to FD and board director level. I manage some key accounts and specialise in recruiting for large corporate clients. I’m a graduate of Lancaster University where I studied French and Psychology and I’ve also lived and worked in Hong Kong.

What sort of person would you recommend Axon Moore to?You need to be hardworking, tenacious, self-motivating and to have a sense of humour!

What could you not get through the day without?A kiss from my boys and MY PHONE!

An interesting fact about yourselfWhen I worked in Hong Kong I regularly used to pretend I was Nicole Kidman!

In three words, how would your colleagues describe you?Direct, hardworking, may be a little bit crazy.

No day is the samein recruitment...

Page 9: Connecting Talent with Opportunity · In 2015 Watson Moore and Axon Resourcing came together as Axon Moore. Both businesses were already extremely well respected in their markets

I get to the office every morning at 8.30am and the first thing I do is make myself a cup of tea and put together a rough to do list for the day. No day is the same in regards to structure as it all depends on what I have on at any one time. Any key candidate calls I have to make I schedule around midday or 5pm as I know they have a better chance of being able to talk at these times. I usually get home for about 6.30pm and just switch off from work. This job can be full on so I think it’s important to find a balance between work and home. I’d rather stay a little bit longer in the evening at work than take it home with me.

What’s the best thing about working at Axon Moore? The level of professionalism and industry knowledge. They operate very ethically and are genuinely committed to building long term relationships.

I graduated in 2013 with a degree in Drama and Theatre Practice from University of Hull. I joined Axon  Moore in 2014 and l specialise in recruiting graduate, transactional and part qualified finance roles in Greater Manchester and Cheshire.

What could you not get through the day without?Tea!

An interesting fact about yourselfI once climbed to the top of a waterfall in the Ourika Valley in a pair of flip flops. It took 2 hours, we got caught in a massive thunder storm on the way back down and I still have the scars on my feet. Makes for a great story though. In three words, how would your colleagues describe you?Right, I asked around for these- Thoughtful, Geeky, Fastidious

What does a typical day consist of for you?

What sort of person would you recommend Axon Moore to?Someone who doesn’t take themselves too seriously, wants to get away from the heavy KPI environment and is looking for a certain level of autonomy in their day to day working. Definitely need a good sense of humour as well!

We take our corporate and social responsibility seriously and support local, national and international charities. We make an annual donation to Macmillan Cancer Support and love to get involved with local events, sponsoring everything from football clubs to charity fashion shows.

Throughout the year teams get involved with fundraisers and can be found baking, wearing fancy dress and doing more exercise than is good for them all in the aid of a worthy cause!

Training at Axon Moore is very much geared towards each individual’s needs. We like to think we strike a great balance between formal, course based training and learning on the job.
