The week before the show, there was a flurry of activity in the classroom. Everyone had an important job to do. Goose studied her lines. Beaver practiced her ballet steps. The musicians learned their songs.

1 See overall class proficiency and proficiency in each domain.

Ask yourself:

• What is the class average? What

does that suggest about the level of

support I will need to provide?

• Which students are Below Level in

each domain?

2 Review grade-level equivalency.

Ask yourself:

• Are most of my students at, above, or

below grade level?

• What does this data suggest about

the amount of time I need to devote

to review?

4 Look for growth after the next

administration.

Ask yourself:

• What growth or regression do I

notice?

• Are most students moving in the right

direction? If not, who needs more

support or intervention?

CLASS GROWTH REPORT

Understand the OptionsHere are some tips for getting to know what skill strengths and challenges your students are

bringing to the classroom at the beginning of the year.

• Consult data or feedback from the last academic year. Reach out to the previous

grade’s teachers to find out whether there are any tips or “look for’s” that you should

consider as you start the year.

• Use the HMH Growth Measure. This is a short screener that you can administer three

times a year to understand each student’s Quantile™ level and proficiency with grade-level

mathematics skills. This insight, along with information about personal interests, can help

you plan and prioritize your instruction.

• Learn to look for patterns. After students have completed the assessment, review the

reports available for the class and individual students. Use the details on the next page to

help you make the most of your evaluation.

• Monitor their growth. Assign the HMH Growth Measure again in the middle and at the

end of the year to help you gauge students’ progress, growth, and areas of greatest need.

Where do I start?

How do I interpret the results?

TIPS & TRICKS!

See the assessment in action! Watch Using the HMH Growth Measure video to learn how to assign the assessment and to interpret the resulting report.

If your school uses a different assessment—such as NWEA, iReady, or Renaissance STAR—use our Diagnostic Assessment Crosswalk to help you determine the right resources to support your students.

TIPS & TRICKS!

3 Evaluate students’ Quantile™ levels.

Ask yourself:

• What is the Quantile™ range of my

students?

• What does this suggest about the

lessons I should teach or assign?

Review the Growth Measure ReportsHelping your students starts with understanding their Quantile™

level and proficiency in mathematics. Use these tips and questions to

guide you in interpreting the results of the Growth Measure and

identifying students’ greatest needs.
