PRIZE PITCH One of the most common scams is the "prize pitch". Consumers are told they have been specially selected to win a prize, or have been awarded one of three or two of five prizes. These prizes usually include cash or a vehicle. You must purchase a product and pay in advance to receive your prize. These products may include "coin collections", personalized pen sets, etc. The products are generally cheap or overpriced, but may sound valuable over the phone. Remember, in a legitimate contest you do not have to purchase a product to qualify for a prize. You may also encounter the "sweepstakes scam". After entering a fake sweepstakes contest in the mail, you will receive a call within two to four weeks from a fraudulent telemarketer. This person will usually identify themselves as a lawyer, judge, customs agent or other official. They will represent themselves as an agent for a particular company. You will be told that you have won a large cash award, but money must be sent up front.

EDUCATION
It was an exciting first Spelling Bee at Conklin Community School as contestants competed in the school’s first ever Spelling Bee. Members of the Club committed in January and attended weekly spelling meets during recess where they practiced, played and rehearsed for the Spelling Bee. Members of the school and the community including proud parents and family attended the tense competition in the school library. It was quite the competition too as not even a whisper could be heard as participants spelled their words. Congratulations to all participants- they are indeed all winners for dedicating such time, energy and enthusiasm to this event. The Spelling Bee Club would like to thank all the guests who took time out of their busy schedules to attend our first inaugural event. And also to those that just could not attend, thanks for your support in helping us get ready by helping us with our word study.
Reece Atkinson, a grade 4 student, placed first in the Spelling Bee Competition held at Conklin Community School. Ms. Reck, the organizer of the event at the school, presents Reece with a dictionary and a thesaurus that he will certainly put to good use before the next spelling bee which both students and community members are already anticipating.
Second Place winner Braden Campbell, a grade 4 student, was presented with a certificate of participation and a dictionary by Ms. Reck.

Re: Fort McMurray Recovery Centre
We are writing this letter to advise you that the Fort McMurray Recovery Centre is now open and accepting referrals
The Fort McMurray Recovery Centre has been established to provide an accessible addiction treatment resource for Alberta residents and their families. We offer a 28 day residential treatment program for adults. Referrals are received through the local addiction office.
At the Fort McMurray Recovery Centre, it is our goal to provide a safe, comfortable and confidential environment for those in recovery from addiction. Our strengths-based approach focuses on relapse prevention and building skills needed for continued well-being.
The Fort McMurray Recovery Centre is a tobacco-free site. Individuals seeking admission for residential treatment are advised that tobacco dependence support is part of the program, and nicotine replacement therapy products can be provided during their treatment stay.
If you have questions about the program or are interested in a presentation about our Centre and our other addictions services, please feel free to contact the Centre at (780) 793 8300.
