Congratulations to the Sacred Heart children that made their First Holy Communion at Mass on Saturday night. This is a huge step in your forming of faith as a member of our Catholic community. It was a pity that the whole school could not be there to celebrate with you, however we will be having a full school mass tomorrow to celebrate the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. All parents are invited to share with us in our feast day at 9.00 am Mass.

On 12 June we took great delight in celebrating the Independence Day of the Philippines. We said some prayers for the Philippines while surrounding a large flag created by the children and teachers. We all enjoyed a sausage sizzle for lunch expertly cooked by Mike French and Tom Currie and served by our senior students. We really appreciate the support that the Filipino community have brought to our school.

On Tuesday we were superbly entertained by one of our choirs who worked hard with Mrs Stamper towards performing with the other six schools in the Kahukura cluster. We all look forward to being entertained by all our talented children later in the year at our Annual Arts Festival.

Keeping Ourselves Safe

You will have all received a letter home breaking down the learning that will be taking place around the unit Keeping Ourselves Safe. We look forward to having Constable Ross Mitchell come into school to teach and assist teachers with the delivery of this unit. If you have any questions regarding this unit

please feel free to contact us.

Pasifika Family Evening

We will be holding a Pasifika Family Evening for all Pasifika families on Thursday 29 June. We will start with food at 4.30 pm. It will be an opportunity to discuss with you how we are teaching your children and for you to ask any questions. An invitation will

have come home with your children.

Reporting to Parents

Parent-Teacher interviews will be held on 31 July and 1 August for all children in Year 4-8. More information will come out next week about how to book these interviews as this will be done via an online booking website. All children in Years 1-3 will continue to receive progress and achievement reports based on their time at school.

The senior classes have been trialling ‘Seesaw’, our online portfolio system to give parents and families an insight into their children’s learning. It is looking to be very successful with over 90% of families registered to engage in their children’s learning. The rest of our classes are preparing to use this to share children’s learning with you.

Confirmation Programme 2017

The Sacrament of CONFIRMATION will be held, this year, on 9 September. Please contact the Parish office for an enrolment form. (Provide Baptism certificate please).

Year 7/8 Technology

Our Year 7 and 8 children attend Kirkwood Intermediate School on a Wednesday afternoon each week. Technology Education at Kirkwood presents students with a range of creative experiences in different areas: Foods, Electronics, Materials (metal, wood, fabric and plastics), Design and Graphics.

Programmes link together in themes to focus on: Planning for Practice, Brief Development and Outcome Evaluation.

Key competencies and values are also integrated within programmes.

Students gain knowledge and skills essential for their own lives and all kinds of careers by working in teams and individually. Portfolios communicate the design process and allow students to take responsibility for decisions. Our children achieve well in these

technology subjects.

WELCOME – Welcome to our Sacred Heart

Sports Talk - Mrs Currie

It has been a fantastic sporting couple of weeks at Sacred Heart. The winter sports teams have been making great improvements with three teams having their first win of the season. Congratulations to the year 5/6 netball team, year 7/8 A football team and the year 7/8 hockey team for their first wins.

The juniors are enjoying working with Steve Potter each Thursday to develop their ball skills through lots of catching and throwing games. Basketball has been very entertaining down at Pioneer. The year 5/6 basketball team is still undefeated this season after playing Cashmere on Wednesday night and winning. The year 7/8 girls had a great game against Prebbleton. They fought hard and only just lost. The year 7/8 boys beat Cathedral Grammar convincingly.
