Principal’s Message 2014 is an important year for all public schools in terms of their strategic planning for the next few years ahead. At Cardiff South, we have already begun a process of evaluation and reflection around what is working well in our school and the areas that could be developed further. To assist us in this process, we are giving families the opportunity to comment on what is working and what we should review by conducting a spring clean. With today’s newsletter you should receive a buff coloured ‘Spring Clean’ note which asks you to comment on three things: What practices/programs/features/things should we hold on to because they work? What practices/programs/features/things need some fine tuning to make them more effective for our students? Which practices/programs/features/things should be thrown out in the spring clean? (i.e. they are no longer effective or past their use by date) Participation is voluntary, however the more information we can collect the more appropriate our planning will be. When you are considering the questions above it may be useful to consider: What does your child enjoy about school? What do they comment on in regards to their class time, play etc? Are you happy with their social learning, access to technology, the literature available to them to read, their ability to problem-solve? What skills or knowledge would you like them to develop better? We will be using your feedback to assist in the setting of three clear and concise strategic directions. These strategic directions will help us to examine the processes, resources and people that we will need to put in place in order to successfully improve our school and the learning that occurs here. Our thanks go to the staff of Wallsend South PS who willingly shared this idea with us to use here. They called theirs a Garage Sale. We look forward to reading your thoughts, suggestions and ideas. Principal’s Message

2014 is an important year for all public schools in terms of their strategic

planning for the next few years ahead. At Cardiff South, we have already

begun a process of evaluation and reflection around what is working well in

our school and the areas that could be developed further. To assist us in this

process, we are giving families the opportunity to comment on what is

working and what we should review by conducting a spring clean. With

today’s newsletter you should receive a buff coloured ‘Spring Clean’ note

which asks you to comment on three things:

What practices/programs/features/things should we hold on to

because they work?

What practices/programs/features/things need some fine tuning to

make them more effective for our students?

Which practices/programs/features/things should be thrown out in

the spring clean? (i.e. they are no longer effective or past their use

by date)

Participation is voluntary, however the more information we can collect the

more appropriate our planning will be. When you are considering the

questions above it may be useful to consider:

What does your child enjoy about school?

What do they comment on in regards to their class time, play etc?

Are you happy with their social learning, access to technology, the

literature available to them to read, their ability to problem-solve?

What skills or knowledge would you like them to develop better?

We will be using your feedback to assist in the setting of three clear and

concise strategic directions. These strategic directions will help us to examine

the processes, resources and people that we will need to put in place in

order to successfully improve our school and the learning that occurs here.

Our thanks go to the staff of Wallsend South PS who willingly shared this

idea with us to use here. They called theirs a Garage Sale. We look forward

to reading your thoughts, suggestions and ideas.

Have a good week

Canberra Excursion Final Update Preparations for the Canberra excursion will be finalised this week. The students will participate in one last information session where the focus will be on appropriate conduct and behaviour at each of the venues we visit. They will be equipped with problem-solving strategies and we will discuss how they can look after themselves, their friends (and their teachers) in order to get the most out of the experience. A last minute reminders note will be sent home with all students tomorrow. Don’t hesitate to contact us with questions should you have any. Please remember that all students need to be at school next Monday at 6:40am for 7am departure. PSSA Soccer/Netball The regular PSSA competition rounds were completed last Friday. This Friday has been set aside as a make-up round for any previous washed out games. We are yet to hear from the Crossroads Zone committee if one of our washed out games will be played this Friday and where. As soon as we hear, we will post a message on the school app with the relevant details. P&C Meeting The next P&C meeting is scheduled for this Wednesday at 7pm. We will meet in the school library and new members are always welcome to join us if you are free. Father’s Day This year’s Fathers’ Day stall is being held on Thursday 4th September. To make this day a success we require donations of small gifts, preferably pre-wrapped in cellophane. Some gift suggestions are: car accessories, small tools, stubbie holders, mug of chocolates and BBQ utensils or anything else you think a dad would love to unwrap on Father’s Day. Items will sell from $2 to a max. of $10 with a raffle being held for 50c a ticket. All donations can be left at the office. We would also love some help on the day. We’d appreciate if you could spare and hour or two to help serve the children on the day; the set up will start at 8am and we will be finished by 11am. Thank you in advance for anything you can offer. P&C Committee
