La Crosse, WI (WXOW) - On Tuesday Bethany Saint Joseph Corporation honors two La Crosse area residents for their service to the community.

The 29th Annual "Iverson Freking Ecumenical Recognition Awards" went to Reverend Doctor Timothy Ashley and Sister Bridget Donaldson. Reverend Ashley is a pastor for the

First Baptist Church in La Crosse. He has helped create partnerships throughout the community including the La Crosse Warming Center and El Centro Latino Program. "When the committee came to me and said we'd like to give you this award if you'll accept it and I said can you give it to the church instead of me. That's

because I think the church is really the one that's done the work. I just kind of facilitate," Ashley said.

Sister Donaldson served at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Parish in Holmen for 30 years. Some of her contributions include St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Holmen Area Food Pantry and the Suicide Hotline.

"I am very humbled to be a part of that and all the people that are a part of that should be sitting right here in my lap with me. So that award I receive in their honor," Donaldson said.

Grand Knights Report

I hope everyone had a blessed and joyous Christmas

and a great start to the New Year! Thank you to all those fellow knights and their families who helped out over the

last month or so. These were all important events that the

Knights are involved within the local communities. And to all

those who have been able to help out or chair events throughout the entire year.

By our next meeting on the 10th, the rotary lights will have been torn down (with

help from our council), the nativity set put away for the year, and our free-throw

contest completed (hopefully with much involvement).

Our reverent Pope Francis has dedicated 2016 as the Year of Mercy, which began back in Dec 8th. Charity

from the Knights is a great part of this effort and will be emphasized even more through our acts and our

programs.

We have several upcoming events/ opportunities for you to get involved:

Super Bowl Breakfast- Sunday, Feb 7th, 2016. I, your Grand Knight, am trying to do double duty with run-

ning the breakfast this year. I would be very grateful if someone (or several) came forward to volunteer

some of their time to help co-chair this event and the Kornfest Breakfast in August.

Statewide Charity Raffle- Now through April. Help support Danny Miles with this very important fund-

raiser. If anyone is interested in helping him run this event, I’m sure he would be greatly appreciative! He

can be best be contacted at [email protected].

Annual Tootsie Roll Drive- tentatively April 22-24th. Great awareness for people with special needs. We

are in a critical need for chair people to run this event. To find out what is involved in set-up and running

the event please contact Todd Knutson (526-1014) or Mike Bruha (608-799-7241). They have done a

wonderful job the past few years.

Annual Council #9385 Appreciation Banquet-tentatively set for either April 3rd or 10th. This will be our

30th anniversary as a council.

For those activities that you’re interested in giving a hand, you can give me a call or e-mail and I can get

you in touch with the right person in charge. [email protected] or 608-769-2761 (Cell). I think the

above activities show just how active our Holmen council is with the parish and our community. Many of

these events only require a couple of hours of your time and good, fraternal fun. These are all good ways

to either stay involved or get more involved and make a difference!

An additional note, if you have not been receiving our regular e-mails on upcoming activities, please

contact me with your updated e-mails. I know there are 44 members that we do not have e-mail

addresses, therefore we would love to get you on the list.

Again, thank you all for your help, generosity, and support for all that represents the Knight of Columbus

and may we continue that even more through 2016. May you all have a wonderful new year.

Vivat Jesus!

David Hawes, Grand Knight

Please check out St. Elizabeth’s new parish website and smart phone app. The website can be found at www.seasholmen.org. The

La Crosse Diocese has provided parishes with an app for your smart phone or tablets. This can be installed thru the Apple App

Store or Google Play Store. Search for myParsh, install and search for St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Be sure to

search for the Holmen address. Both the website and app are great resources for the latest bulletins, news-

letters, meeting minutes, Mass times, Faith Formation information and much more.

If you have any questions, please contact Sandy at the parish office.

Insurance Check-Up for 2016

Where did 2015 go? It seems like it was summer yes-

terday and Easter was last week.

I hope you and your family had a great finish to 2015.

Now, the first quarter of 2016 is flying by.

Hopefully, you’ve established a few goals for this

year. I’ve learned a great tip regarding resolutions.

First, write them down. It’s not too late if you haven’t

already done this. Commit your goals to paper and post it someplace you will see it

often. Writing down a goal is the first step towards achieving it. It may not make

sense at first, but I’m sure you have heard stories of the success this simple task

can bring. Whether your goal is to exercise more, give more to charity, read more

or watch less television, you’re more likely to accomplish it if you write it down.

Second, resolve to have an expert look at your finances. I recommend that you

have a team of experts help you, and I would love to be the first you sit with. Let’s

schedule some time to meet together, and I, your professional Knights of Colum-

bus insurance agent, will provide an “insurance check-up” (at no cost!) that will

evaluate any gaps in your family’s life insurance protection. Now might be the per-

fect time to fill those gaps, not later. Keep in mind that unlike many other products,

you don’t just need money to obtain life insurance; you also need good health, and

no one knows when your health could change.

Did I mention my check-up is free of charge? When was the last time you received

something for free that could provide value to you and your family for genera-

tions? Call me today.

They will be at church and at our council meetings. Contact Jeff Hammes and he will be happy to get them to who ever wants some. 608-397-4097 or email [email protected]. If all of our members sell one this will be a successful fundraiser. If they sell one and buy one our charity cup will overflow and there will be lots of clean cars ! Jeff Hammes, DGK

The 2016 State Charity Raffle Tickets Are Here!

Father John Rossiter Council 9385 and the Wisconsin State Council of the Knights of Columbus are currently selling raffle tickets for the 2016 Charity Raffle. The prize list

consists of $115,000 being paid to thirty winners with a first prize of $50,000! The second prize is $25,000 or a Street Glide Harley. The third prize is $15,000, the fourth and fifth

prize is $5,000 each, the sixth through tenth prize is $1,000 each, and the eleventh through thirtieth prize is $500 each. This is the largest raffle in the State of Wisconsin for a $5.00 price. The drawing will take place at the State Convention on Saturday, April 30, 2016.

The proceeds from this raffle are used to help support your brother Knights and their families, along with other members of our community, to alleviate sorrow, ease financial burdens and restore hope to victims and families of accidents and illness. Over the years,

this raffle has allowed our Council to distribute tens of thousands of dollars to local families in need.

You should have received your tickets in the mail. I would appreciate your best efforts to buy or sell at least 10 tickets. If you need more tickets, please contact me. Please return your completed ticket stubs in the enclosed envelope, bring them to the next meeting, or

drop them off in the Knight’s mailbox in the parish office. If you have any questions, please call or email. Thank you for supporting this fantastic program.

Remember – Charity is a virtue that gladdens the heart of the giver!

Faithful Friar’s Report

Sir Knights, As we begin the New Year of 2016, Our Holy Father reminds us on the So-lemnity of Mary the Mother of God, "The Mother of the Redeemer goes before us and continually strengthens us in our faith, in our vocation, in our mission as an example of hu-

mility and openness to God's will. She helps us to transmit our faith in a joyful proclamation of the gospel to all." When so many in our world now live in fear, with heightened uncertainties about tomorrow, the new year of 2016 is an opportunity of living in God's great Mercy and Hope. The joy that filled the heart of the Blessed Mother can also fill our hearts. To accomplish this joy we need to see where we place our trust. ln this year of Divine Mercy, it is in Jesus we put our trust, so the joy which Mary knew we also may know. May God Bless you during this New Year. SK Msgr. Steve Kachel—Faithful Friar

FAITHFUL NAVIGATOR’S REPORT….

Brother Sir Knights: I hope the holiday season went well for all of you. As for me things went as

planned for the most part. As we all are now making some sort of resolutions for 2016 please consider one resolution being to attend meetings and get involved with the assembly. At the last meeting I was happy to report that I have received a “tentative” from Cardinal Burke, as a guest speaker, the date is in the works and will be reported as time goes on. I also suggest that we set the agenda for 2016 / 2017 at the March meeting. More members should be involved in this for our social gathering. I would suggest a meeting where we address our strengths and weaknesses. This will be a chance for all members that have stayed away because they feel the Assembly is not effective, with as many members input we can have some de-sired results we agree upon as a group. Dates to remember: January 21 business meeting St. Pats. 7:00

pm : February 6, 4th Degree exemplification St. Pats. : February 18, 4th Degree Social Manny’s in Onalaska. Father Alan Wierzba, vocation director guest speaker. : March 17, Business meeting St. Pat 7:00 pm meeting to set agenda for 2016 / 2017.

January is my month for anything British. Mysteries, Comedies, Drams, etc. I have enough DVD to watch three a night for the month.
