A few men passed through a field, one after the otherA farmer, who saw only the green grass for his cowsA soldier, who felt, it was a place worth defendingAn astronomer, for whom it was a good place to observe the

stars and the skyA butcher, whose mind was already busy calculating the weight

of the cowsAn idle man, who felt he could wonderfully pass the hours of the dayAn artist, who drew the colourful scene of the field in his mindEach person saw it his own way; saw it from his point of viewYet each one looked at the same field!

AMRITA.J, XI

Whenever I see any thing on the floor the

only thought in my mind is to kick it into a target.

Yes, “Foot ball” is the best game ever. It moulded

me into a new person!...

Rules and regulations apart, this

awesome game has no age discrimination. The

game cannot be played without a team which

has the spirit, unity and strength in its. Cristiana

Ronaldo a well known football player says

“Determination is more important than strength

in the game”. The words are very important to

the passionate players.

From the emotional aspect this game

gives us lot of zest and fun. The game builds up

stamina, confidence and improves the functions

of the body. A person never feels tired if he

enjoys this fun filled game.

According to estimations, football is the

game with most number of fans. It is also a game

for women. In a passionate footballer, a person

can see tears running down from his eyes if he

loses the game or the overwhelming joy shown

by him when the same game is won.

There is not much, when the same

person yells “GOAL!!” he feels on top of the

world…..

So do I!! Don't you??...

In spite of the fact that no village

in India is without an elementary school, the

students who come out of these schools are not

in a position to compete with English medium

school students or with others who had their

education in private schools in towns and cities.

When the elementary school which is the very

foundation of one's education itself is very weak

there can be no concrete superstructure.

The buildings that house elementary

schools in many villages have thatch. Therefore

during monsoon, classes cannot be conducted.

The children have literally to wade through the

fields to reach the schools. Consequently,

holidays are declared on those days during

heavy downpour. More over the buildings are

not safe. It is imperative to construct strong

buildings with all facilities, especially

blackboards and furniture and separate toilets

for boys and girls. It is well known that in rural

elementary schools the quality of teachers is not

high and their number falls far short of the

requirements. A teacher has to look after three

or four classes at a time! Hence it is impossible to

pay individual attention to growing children

(which is necessary at the elementary level)

The play ground facilities must receive

special attention. Well in rural India space is no

problem but the facilities and sports equipments

are not available. Sports have become an

instrument of national pride in international

level. Hence, the students at elementary stage

must be given training in various disciplines of

sports.

Today's children are tomorrow's youth.

The youth's contribution is important in

developing our country social ly and

economically. The government must make an

introspection to improve the quality of

elementary education in the rural areas. We as

citizens of India can contribute something to

improve the standard of living of these students.

This will surely help in making our country a

developed country.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS IN INDIA

Each year rows and rows of women sashay across stages flashing dazzling smiles through lip gloss. Beauty Pageants have now become very common. They are conducted everywhere from the smallest town to the international level. These are supposed to build confidence in the participants but they end up judging their physical beauty. Translucent skin, high cheekbones and silky hair don't define beauty. Everyone is beautiful in their own way. Women get so carried away by these contests. I consider beauty pageants to be a waste of time for beauty is in the eyes of the beholder so who's to judge – certainly not a pageant committee! True beauty lies not in outward appearances but in the compassion of heart.

BEAUTY CONTESTS

We were excited because during the games period our class teachers announced that we are going for a bullock cart ride around our school campus.

During the break we had a great discussion among friends about the ride. Immediately after the break our teachers took us to the cart after giving instructions.

I was in the II batch of our class. We were waiting eagerly for our chance. At last it was time for us. The cart was pulled by two white bullocks and an old man drove it. Nearly twenty of my friends along with our teacher went for a jolly ride in the cart. It was really an exciting moment that I experienced in my life.

Where is my planet earth,Where I have taken birth,Is the earth in the sea,Or in a hive of a bee?

Some say it revolves around the sun,I think it eats a bun,Because it grows in size day by day,And I feel it when I watch the bay.

I searched it in many books,And once asked a cook,Who told it was in the clean old hook!

I then asked my mother,She told me to ask my father,He told me to find it in the system (computer)At last I found that it was in the solar system

KARNA ALAGARSAMY.P.A.B, VII E

WHERE IS MY PLANET EARTH

This life… is it really beautiful?

Many times, I'd wondered how reasonable it is to say such statements as “Life is beautiful…”

What is the beauty of life? – is the big question:

Is it in seeing beautiful flowers blooming with radiant colours,

which makes you appreciate the creativity of god…?

Or in seeing patients with very dreadful diseases in hospitals,

making you wonder why a merciful god should allow such things in the first instance?

Is it in receiving gifts like air, water and sunshine without having to pay…?

Or in meeting people like your very selves who have to pay for the same oxygen that you

receive free?

Is it in seeing your neighbour wishing you every morning…?

Or in returning in the evening only to hear that the same neighbour is dead?

...hmm….this is life!

Life is beautiful for some but not for some others

Life is beautiful at times but may not be always

Let's go ahead with confidence in ourselves and in God – life will always be beautiful!

I am a Tennis racquet; I really don't

know when I was born. I was first played by th th

French monks in the 11 or 12 century. At first

I was made of flesh. As the players felt th

uncomfortable to hold me, in the 14 century I

came to be known as racquet, made with

strings made of gut bound in a wooden frame.

The Italians bear the credit for this invention.

Now many companies like Babolat, Head,

Prince, Volkl etc. produce me. But I am happy

to be a Wilson racquet which Roger Federer

the world's No. 1 Tennis player uses. Now I am

made of aluminium, carbon fibre and metals

such as titanium alloys or ceramics.

I was sold in a sports shop in Madurai

and I was happy when Sabari bought me. He

keeps me safely and cleans me after every

game. I have to be gutted once in 3 or 4

months as he is a powerful player. I am very

excited when Sabari serves. I am enthusiastic

when he gives an overhead. I eagerly meet

the ball when he slices and get tensed when

he lobs; praying that the ball should not go

out. I try my best to cooperate with him.

I wish and pray that he wins all the

matches that he plays. Whenever he wins he

kisses me and holds me on top and shows me

to the audience. I am proud to be with him.

Though there are many games like squash,

badminton etc. that also use racquets, I am

happy to be a tennis racquet because it's a 'rich

man's game' and a 'gentle man's game'.

We cheer when they tweet,

They are huge, small or tiny,

God gave a party,To the stars and the sun,It was a grand party indeed,And everyone was having fun.

The clouds were the carpets,The full moon - a large plate,The dark blue sky – the floor,To watch from the earth was great.

The stars were there,But where was the sun?Is he ill?Or is he playing with his grandson?

The wind god passed that way,The carpets flew away,There was lightning and thunder - an orchestra,The stars were dancing gay.

The sun was there,He was brighter and hotter,“I'm sorry” he said,“I had a meeting with the sunflower”

He took the plate,He dropped it down,He was embarrassed,And his face was a frown.

A star took a broken wand,He wished to impress the god,He cast a spell on the plate,The plate became small as a pea pod

Then god cast his spell on the plate,It grew and shrank again,It does so even nowAnd then,

The stars and the moonWere not visible due to the sun's light,Yes it was morning,After a joyful night..

PARTY IN THE SKY

I was at the shore of Pattaya city, Bangkok with some of my friends and teachers. We got into the speed boat after wearing the life jacket. We reached the spot where we stood in a queue. After ten minutes of standing my chance came for paragliding. An eighteen year old girl came and fitted me with a parachute. They instructed me to run and jump as high as I could. I did as they told and soon I was in mid air. Then I saw that the parachute was tied to a boat. As I felt uncomfortable, I tried to adjust myself by pulling the parachute. Accidently I pulled hard and the parachute collapsed. It fell into the water… I mean the ocean!!!

Soon I was on the boat and I prepared for another ride…

SREE VENGAT.R, IX C

MY EXPERIENCE DURING PARAGLIDING

I was just passing my time in the meadow,While I heard a pattern of sound,Suddenly there was a bounce,But nothing was to be found.

I then heard the rustle of the leaves,I felt the plants rubbing down my sleeves,Were there any thieves? No, they were just leaves.

The climbers were soft and tender,Climbing the trees they were slender,Was climbing tree a blunder?I thought, there came a thunder.

Small, tiny droplets started to fall,On the leaflets,And what should I sayI would never forget this day.

I live out of Madurai, in a village in a

larger house than the others in a narrow, busy

street. It was Monday when I heard that there

was a burglary in an old woman's house. Then

on Tuesday, my mother and father decided to

go on a trip to Thirupathi. And then they said

good bye and left me alone in the house on

Wednesday. I was alone in the house studying

for PAT in my study room. It was quarter to ten

in the night.

And that is when I heard screaming

sounds like, “Save me! Help! Help!”. I got

terrified as soon as I heard the shout. I peeped

out of the window to see what was happening.

Then I realized that the shout came from my

neighbour's house. The villagers were alarmed

and ran towards the house with sticks in their

hands, blocking the only entrance to the house.

The burglar ran out of the house with his gun

pointing at the child's head. He ordered

everyone to drop the sticks and move away,

threatening to kill the child. I picked a stone and

threw it on him. It distracted him which gave a

chance for the crowd to spring on him and beat

him up. He was overpowered. The police

arrived and handcuffed the burglar. The

crowd appreciated me for my act. On Friday

when my parents came, they were thrilled to

hear the story and were proud of me.

S.KARAEN, V B

Nature, how often you are compared to a

mother,

So kind and caring, but we don't bother!

Your kiss a breeze; your caress a gentle wind

So tender and loving; the nature of a mother

Like children we harass you,

And take countless liberties with you,

You bear it so patiently

The nature of a mother, so true!

We tear you apart and blow up mountains,

We disfigure your gentle plains,

We cut down your lovely tre(ss)es

And even cause artificial rains!

Then when you can bear it no longer

You let out a roar and show your anger -

Mountains spew lava, hot with danger

The ground splits apart and frightens us further

You shed your tears in torrents

And cause upheaval of ocean currents,

Your children are filled with dread

Cyclones and Tsunamis leave many dead.

Then your foolish children pacify you

Conduct prayers and meetings just for you.

Countries meet on climate change

Only to accuse each other of the insult to you.

You sit through all this patiently

Bemused and indulging like a dear mother

Knowing well nothing can change your fate

Meeting the black – hole is merely another date!
