1–2 p.m.Your Origins MatterDr Jason Lisle – Auditorium This presentation shows the central importance of the history in Genesis to major Christian doctrines, and shows how the decline in society is connected to the increasing rejection of biblical creation. The defense of literal, historical Genesis is absolutely crucial to the success of the Church in its call to make disciples of all nations. Topics include the age of the Earth and the origin of death and suffering.

Right Brain Writing Pamela Gates – Chapel “Help! My teenager can’t even write a paragraph by himself.”“My child loves to ‘journal’, but won’t write an organized paragraph for anything.”“Loose thought patterns” plague many children and teens, particularly those suffering with Dysgraphia, ADD, or Auditory Processing Problems. They have difficulty thinking in an organized manner, and therefore cannot write in an organized manner - no matter how much practice they have had using various workbook and worksheet methods of teaching. When all other methods haven’t worked, Right Brain Paragraph and Composition Writing always works, even with total non-writers. This includes the unique Right Brain Webbing method which is unlike any other webbing method. The child’s paper will write itself! This is the method Dianne developed for use in her Resource Rooms in school for her gifted and

‘regular’ kids who could never write a paragraph to save their lives. By the end of the year she got 3-4 page papers from them. We have seen the same results in homeschool families across the country. No curriculum required….just a different method of teaching!”

Help! It's Time for Dinner and I Can't Find the Table Janell Papke – 1422-23Are you often amazed at the amount of stuff your family seems to generate? Do you need to conduct an archaeological dig to find the dining room table? Between the artwork, mail, outgrown clothes and schoolwork, it can be hard to control the chaos. What does it really mean to "be organized" and how can it help you? Learn 5 simple steps to help you organize any area of your home and get great tips to keep it that way.

Entering the High School Zone Deanne Crawford – 1112Does the idea of homeschooling a high school student strike fear deep into your heart? Or are you "in the trenches" of homeschooling high school and looking for direction. This practical workshop provides a road map for navigating: record keeping, graduation requirements, transcripts, apprenticeships, and PSAT/SAT and ACT testing. College and military opportunities are also discussed. Q & A time will get your questions answered!

Topics include setting goals, choosing supplies and curriculum, lesson planning, and more—plus Six Tips for Success. Appropriate for any grade level.

2:30–3:30 p.m.Science Confirms Biblical Creation Dr. Jason Lisle – AuditoriumIn this presentation, we see that the evidence in several major fields of science confirms the Genesis account of creation, but is contrary to the expectations of evolutionists. Topics include: genetics, information science and math sciences such as geology and paleontology. Radiometric dating methods are also discussed. These topics are dealt with in an easy-to-understand way that nonscientists will enjoy.

Reading with a Purpose: Developing Comprehension SkillsGwelda Carlson – 1422-23To get the most out of reading, students need to read with a purpose. Reading is based on language ability, and comprehension is a learned skill that relies on a student's experiential background and reading level. Explore the reciprocal relationship between the growth in vocabulary and improvements in comprehension.

Level Headed Language ArtsDeanne Crawford – 1101-02Encompassing two of the three “R’s” of education, language arts can be a confusing labyrinth. Composition, grammar, handwriting, literature, reading comprehension, spelling, vocabulary–and don’t forget dictionary skills. Do you integrate them all or handle them separately. Each homeschool approach–classical, Charlotte Mason, and traditional–has its own perspective on the topic. Come sort through the maze of options and provide guidelines to help you choose the right approach for your family.

Ready, Set, GO!Danna Swartz – 1112How to start, where to find curriculum, when to school, and what a typical day looks like are some of the areas discussed. Get an understanding of Rule 12 and 13 and gain valuable information for your homeschool journey. This workshop is a MUST for new homeschoolers.

One Mess Less Stress Cooking Annette Beasley – 1101-02Meals, dishes, diapers, laundry, managing the home, raising godly children, and serving our husbands. That sounds like a wonderfully rich and fulfilling job description. But add homeschooling and you hear mothers across America screaming, "How can I possibly do it all?” “HELP!” From when mothers wake up, until a decision is made, we are hounded with the thought, "What will I make for supper???" Learn about One Mess Less Stress Cooking and helpful tips about meal preparation to involve your children to help meal time become more enjoyable.

Graduate Recognition

Attention Seniors!Join us for the Graduate Recognition during the NCHEA Conference and

Curriculum Fair on April 10 in Lincoln. Register by March 15 for this wonderful

evening at www.NCHEA.org.

Building a Generational Heritage of Faith Carol Kelsey – 1112What is a heritage and why is it important? Just as Christ made disciples and intentionally trained them to pass His salvation message to future generations, families have this same privilege. As we pass on our vision and passion for sharing the love of Christ to our children, future generations will know and love God! We have an incredible and joyous opportunity to build a heritage of faith to last for generations upon generations. Our children will make their own choices, but parents are called to help them build a sturdy foundation to make those choices with God’s will in mind. Learn from practical ideas and examples that will encourage you in your quest to build godly heritage to benefit future generations.

Holidays as Homeschool Curriculum Vicki Bentley – 2430Do you ever feel stuck in the day-to-day sameness of your school routine? If you circle the holidays on your calendar, you can have not just instant mini-units, but family fun and fond memories. Celebrate!

7–8:30 p.m. Keynote Address

followed by Graduate RecognitionJoin us in celebrating the hard work of graduates and their

families after the Keynote Address. This Keynote Address is free and open to the public.

4–5 p.m.Astronomy Reveals Creation Dr. Jason Lisle – AuditoriumIn this presentation, we explore the universe through “biblical glasses.” We see how the universe declares the glory of God and confirms the Bible throughout history and in modern science as well. Topics include the age of the universe, the design of the universe and others.

Right Brain Reading Pamela Gates – ChapelMany bright, hardworking kids struggle with reading. Can a child who is unable to read or who tests two or more years behind in reading be “caught up” in reading at home? YES! The Craft Right Brain Reading Method not only unravels the mystery of reading problems, but shows you step by step how to eliminate these reading blocks. Each participant in this workshop will receive: 1) A Quick Word Recognition Placement Test (to assess child’s current reading level); 2) Colored Reading Transparencies; 3) and a copy of the Daily Lesson Plan for the Struggling Reader. This four-day-a-week plan covers every reading component in a 45-55 minute teaching session. The BIG DIFFERENCE in these lessons is that traditional methods of teaching will be put aside. No more writing, memorizing, or workbooks. We will show you how to use your child’s strong Photographic Memory for learning Sight Words and Phonics sounds. Your child will love this method, because he/she will have instant success (usually learning 10 new Sight Words a week….spelling them forwards and backwards). This is a completely different approach than you have used before. We almost always see a two year growth in reading and spelling in one year! Works for teens and kids.

Beating Technology's Bad Rap Thor and Kimberly Schroeck – 1422-23Why introducing technology in your home doesn't have to end in zoned-out tech-addicted kids. Get tips for naturally integrating computers and tablets into your home in a positive and purposeful manner. We'll share the benefits of creating tech-savvy kids and share favorites apps, websites, programs, and uses for tech in our homeschool classroom.

Why Should We Avoid Common Core? Henry Burke – 2430Does Common Core impact home education? This presentation will describe how the Common Core Standards were adopted by the states and provide six reasons to avoid Common Core. In this workshop, the attendees will learn to differentiate between exemplary Type #1 education and poor Type #2 Common Core education.

Get Ready for

Civics in Actionduring the

9th Annual NCHEA Legislative Day

Teach your children how civic involvement makes a difference as state officials address

Nebraska issues and successes!

Watch Facebook and check www.NCHEA.org for specific date and times.

The event is free and open to all home-

school families in Nebraska.

Saturday, March 299–10 a.m.

The Ultimate Proof of Creation Dr. Jason Lisle – AuditoriumThis powerful presentation holds true to its title: it shows how Christians can demonstrate with absolute certainty that the biblical account of creation is true. Any alternative to biblical creation is irrational, and cannot make sense of laws of logic, nor morality, no the methods of science. This gives Christians an absolutely irrefutable argument for the Christian faith, even if they have little knowledge of the sciences. Also included are practical tips on how to refute nonbiblical views on origins.

Right Brain Math Pamela Gates – ChapelFor some children, math is a monster! They hate it and always feel dumb when doing it. Math is almost always taught in a left brain manner. You can teach it in a right brain manner! These children often have difficulty learning math facts. They tend to do poorly on tests, because they ‘forget’ how to do the math processes (division, fractions, algebra, etc.) In this workshop you will learn how to help your children 1) Permanently store the math facts in their long term memory; 2) Permanently store math processes in their long term memory (from Adding to Algebra). Use these fast, effective, right brain strategies at home to reduce math frustration and tears!

Ready, Set, GO!Danna Swartz – 1422-23How to start, where to find curriculum, when to school, and what a typical day looks like are some of the areas discussed. Get an understanding of Rule 12 and 13 and gain valuable information for your homeschool journey. This workshop is a MUST for new homeschoolers.

Homeschooling High School—Preparing Your Teen Spiritually, Mentally and AcademicallyCarol Kelsey – 1101-02The decision to homeschool your high school student is often surrounded by doubt and worry, and sometimes questioned by bewildered friends and relatives. Do you have questions about how to prepare your teens for the world that awaits them? Join Carol as she shares practical ideas, heart-felt advice, and real-life experiences as a mom who has graduated three of her own.

Organized (well almost): Time Management for Busy Moms Vicki Bentley – 2430As a busy mom, do you sometimes struggle with lesson planning, keeping the house somewhat presentable, teaching, doing the laundry, and getting dinner on the table the same day you homeschool? Come get practical tips and encouragement from a fellow homeschool mom of many. Your husband and children will thank you, and you will have hope for another day of science and language arts!

10:30–11:30 a.m.A Pediatrician's Perspective on Learning ProblemsEileen Vautravers, M.D. – ChapelThis session will review the physical, emotional and cognitive disorders that influence a child's ability to learn. How can parents and educators recognize these problems? What can parents of a learning disables child do? Learn answers to these questions and more.

Counting to Calculus: The Importance of a Strong Foundation in Elementary MathDeanne Crawford – 1422-23Providing children a solid foundation in math is key. Yet experts can't seem to agree on the best way for children to learn. Drill to instill (or is that kill?) or math discovery? Skills based or Think like a Mathematician? Memorize facts or calculator dependence? Does it really matter how children learn to do math as long as they learn? Come explore the two main theories on elementary math education and examine curricula and non-curricula options for building a strong foundation in the early years.

Integrating Younger Children into Your School Day Carol Kelsey – 1101-02“What will I do with my preschooler while teaching the other kids?” Has that question ever crossed your mind? Preschoolers and toddlers are precious and their learning needs are unique. Integrating them into your busy day can be easy and fun! This workshop provides many ways to use multi-sensory educational toys and household items to engage, educate, and occupy young ones. Whether your youngster is the oldest or is a younger child who wants to do school, too, learn how to create a family learning lifestyle that meets the needs of everyone in your home.

Is College a Good Investment of a Waste of Time and Money?John Baylor – 1112Hear from an expert who has helped prepare families for college for over 20 years. This descussion will also give you the tools to motivate your child to see the value of a college education.

Homeschooling on a Shoestring Budget Vicki Bentley – 2430Homeschooling doesn’t have to cost hundreds of dollars per child. Vicki homeschooled seven at a time while their family was without a fulltime income for four years, sometimes spending less than $100 per year.

11:30 a.m.–1 p.m. SUPPORT GROUP LEADER LUNCH

Support group leaders meet in Room 1101-1102 for lunch and fellowship. Vicki Bentley will join at noon for her

presentation Fishing 101: Mentoring Groups in Action. Bring your own lunch or pre-order sack lunch.

PREGISTRATION is required.

Fishing 101: Mentoring Groups in Action Vicki Bentlley – 1101-02

1–2 p.m. Evolution and Errors in ReasoningDr. Jason Lisle – AuditoriumThis talk addresses logic, and logical fallacies (errors in reasoning). In particular, fallacies that are often used by evolutionists are thoroughly explored. This guide to logic will help the Christian to identify mistakes in the reasoning of the critics and thereby refute anti-biblical rhetoric.

One Mess LEss Stress Cooking Annette Beasley – ChapelMeals, dishes, diapers, laundry, managing the home, raising godly children, and serving our husbands.

Art Across Nebraska Gretchen Garrison – 1422-23As a mom, if a school project involves messes (real or imagined), we might save that one until later. If we were to admit that one content area is less of a priority, often art tops the list. We relegate our brushes to the back of the cupboard and push aside our paints, hoping to get to that someday. While production is one element of art, this subject area contains so much more. All of us were created in the image of a magnificent Creator, and we reflect Him in our gifts and abilities. Focusing on the forgotten art elements of art history, criticism

and aesthetics, this workshop will inspire you to make art more of a feature in your homeschool. The presenter does not consider herself to be particularly artistic, in fact, her classroom students years ago often joked about her drawing expertise, yet her children still have a strong foundation of art. Using art found across Nebraska as inspiration, she will give you encouraging suggestions on how you can make art more of a priority.

It's Never Too Early to Start Preparing John Baylor – 1112Come learn what to do when in middle school and high school so your child attends an excellent college within your budget. John will give you the game plan: important activities, testing strategies, etc. Be pro-active and see your child and your budget reap the benefits.

Compute This: Homeschool EditionThor and Kimberly Schrock – 2430Bring your computer and technology questions for a spin on Thor Schrock's computer talk call-in radio show Compute This. Get tips for buying a computer that will last, foolproof virus and malware protection, and keeping your kids safe on the internet. We'll discuss what tech skills your children will need when they graduate and host a Q&A on everything from common computer problems to choosing a tablet.

re you, or a homeschool family you know, facing a crisis or experiencing ongoing hardship? Would you like to help other families continue to homeschool through hard times? Whether you are in need of support or not, you can play a unique role in encouraging hundreds of homeschool families—in Nebraska, the United States, and even internationally.

Spread the WordThe Home School Foundation's (HSF) mission is to bless homeschool families during times of crisis and to further the cause of home education. The HSF is the charitable arm of the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) and was founded in 1994 as a non-profit 501(c)(3). These organiza-tions are very closely tied in their missions to help and support the homeschool community. In the last fiscal year, the HSF raised over $2 million of which 91% was used to help hurting homeschool families, coordinate services to them, and defend homeschool freedoms. The HSF maintains very low overhead costs and a high level of fiduciary accountability to get the resources redistributed directly into the hands of homeschool families in need.

Get HelpHSF assists homeschool families with specific needs … widows, single parents, special needs, military families, cur-riculum relief, disaster relief, and more. Many families have benefited from the HSF’s Compassion Fund, which represents nearly one-third of all of the funds that are granted by HSF to qualified homeschoolers. Take a moment to read the stories of some former recipients of HSF assistance at www.home-schoolfoundation.org. Review the specific funds and apply for any fund that you believe relates to your situation.

Ambassador Spotlight Family – A Family Pays it Forward“Why don’t you consider applying for assistance through the Home School Foundation?” After completing a speaking engagement about “Homeschooling through Hard Times” in 2011 with Mike Smith, President of HSLDA, his words of advice caught me off guard. Yes, we had faced a very difficult year as our oldest son had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia in 2010. Medical bills and other unforeseen costs of coping with such a difficult illness had been a chal-lenging road to travel. But surely there were other people who needed the help more than we did. At best, I was only vaguely familiar with the scope of what the HSF provides so I set aside the idea for a while.

However, the Lord kept placing the option in front of me, and I eventually did apply that year for assistance through HSF’s Compassion Fund option. We were blessed and thrilled when the assistance came through. It came at just the right time as we faced another year of deductibles to meet while still trying to afford the appropriate school materials for our three

sons. The next year, without even asking, the current State Ambassador for our state submitted our family’s name for additional assistance out of the Ambassador State Fund. Another year was upon us and the volunteers and staff at the HSF had continued to follow our family’s journey and pray for us all while we persisted to help our son and were away from home for nine months; seeking treatment for our son at four different internationally-known medical institutions. The prayer cards, e-mails, and notes we received were so encouraging and they even sent us a gift check for Christ-mas.

Through the generosity of HSF and others, we never wor-ried about whether or not we could continue homeschooling our boys. Our sons were with each other every day, and no matter what state we lived in at the time, we were all to-gether. Even though we had to say goodbye to our precious son for a season and while all else changed around us, our homeschooling structure connected us together and we have no regrets. These are the ultimate gifts of what homeschool-ing and HSF have given to our family. So for the love and continued support of the HSF as the hands and feet of Christ in our family and in the lives of others, we are forever grate-ful. So grateful, in fact, that I decided to become the HSF State Ambassador for my state to “pay it forward.”The Gary Family in Arizona Give HelpThere are so many ways to support homeschool families in need. Give to the Nebraska State Ambassador Fund or to one of the other HSF funds that warms your heart. Give of your time and energy by becoming a Community Ambas-sador for your homeschool group. Ambassadors become the hands and feet of Christian service as they represent the HSF at local events and as they find homeschool families in need and minister to them through service projects and fundraisers. HSF needs several ambassadors in every state, and right now Nebraska has only one!

Join UsKathryn Dillow (NE State Ambassador) is spreading the word about HSF as she is reaching out to as many Nebraska homeschool groups as possible. The Ambassador Program will build upon the existing network and enhance support throughout the homeschool community. To learn more about the HSF Ambassador Program and become involved in its hands-on ministry to hurting homeschooling families, contact Kathryn Dillow, Neb. State Ambassador at [email protected]. To apply to become an ambassador, visit www.homeschoolfoundation.org/volunteer and use the “Become an Ambassador” button at the bottom of the page.
