Primary Connector Kits

KD500 series Quick installation with conductive parts, screen continuity and insulation parts filled with silicon grease.

KDR600 seriesA resin-type primary connector kit for the achievement of an indissoluble plug and receptacle connection. Efla’s resin-type connector is supplied with a high performance PU resin to be poured inside the insulation body around the connective parts and screen continuity.

Efla’s primary connector kit is a package of parts for assembly into a primary cable. Each package contains parts for a pair (a plug and a receptacle), resulting in a post-assembly watertight connection of �5A and 5000V. Efla’s connector kits are for screened (shielded) cable and unscreened (unshielded) cable. All of our primary connector kits comply with the appropriate FAA 5�45-�6 requirements for plugs and receptacles (cable connectors).

Screen continuity

The standard version of screen continuity is 2.5 mm2 tinned copper wire, 300 mm long.

Upon request, KD500 can be supplied with insula-ted screen continuity in yellow-green (KD500/YG) or black (KD500/B).

Secondary Connector Kits

Efla’s secondary connector kit is a package of parts to be assembled into a secondary cable or wire. Each package contains parts for a plug or receptacle. The result after assembly is a watertight connection of �0 A and 600 V. Efla’s secondary connector kits comprise two core cable or two single core wires. All secondary connector kits comply with latest FAA 5�45-�6 requirements for plugs and receptacles (cable connectors).

AGL Series transformers

Efla’s AGL series transformers are high quality products designed and manufactured to comply with the majority of international standards and requirements. The toroidal shape of the transformers is optimum for the sizes regularly used in supplying lights in airfields. Transformers are approved by the IEC and/or FAA and also comply with ICAO annex �4 and several national standards.

The range of Efla’s AGL series transformers covers all types and powers normally used in AGL circuits, in-cluding the new LED types. Beyond this, Efla can customize the transformation ratio, lead length and many other features.

Efla uses modern high performance materials and the latest machinery to achieve encapsulation fulfilling the most demanding requirements. Water tightness is achieved using several water barriers resistant to the latest chemicals used in airfields, while the encapsulation material has excellent electrical characteris-tics and good resistance to weathering.

Primary leads

• The transformers have two primary leads, standard length 0.6 m, cross section min. 6 mm2

Efla can supply transformers with or without earthing. If earthing is requested it is connected to the end of the secondary winding in the side of the larger socket.

Transformers can be installed using several met-hods and Efla also provides a transformer caddy in which Efla transformers of all sizes can be hung. Transformers are also suitable for direct burial in soil.

Efla’s AGL series transformers are available with and without earthing (grounding). Transfor-mers without earthing must be ordered using the appropriate suffix, for example KR54�.�. An earthing stud is connected to thesecondary winding, to which the larger secondary socket is connected.

Each year, Efla tests each and every transformer in several phases, recording the test results. Test results can be supplied alongside the trans-formers, if requested in advance.

Prefabricated Secondary Leads

Efla manufactures a wide range of secondary leads for installation according to customer requirements, from half a meter to several hundred meters in length. The result is a high performance secondary circuit and very rapid installation. The majority of this group comes with two core cables and only a small num-ber with two single core wires.

The other group comprises light fixture (and other equipment) supply leads with different kinds of cable and wires. Depending on the OEM solution, two core cables are widely used, as are two single core wires with a different temperature resistance.

Cross-section options are �.5 mm�, �.5 mm� and 4 mm� in two core cables. Cross-section options are �.5 mm� and 4 mm� in wires.

The connector body’s material is modern synthetic elastomere with high electrical and weathering resis-tance:

Extension cords:

The above types are possible with a specific length, with a plug on one end and a receptacle on the other. For example, the type is KDCE501.4.30000 (4 sqmm and 30 m).

Cable information:

Secondary two core cables are EPR–insulated and TPE–sheathed with stranded bare copper conductor. Cables are in accordance with the specifications FAA L-824 (MIL-C-3432 or ICEA S- 66-524) or MIL-C-4921 in general. Possible cross-sections are 1.5 mm2 (OD 8,5mm), 2.5 mm2 (OD 10,0 mm) and 4 mm2 (OD 12 mm). Nominal voltage is 600V. Bending radius is 5D fixed, 10D flexible.

Free end of the leads:

The standard free end is sheath stripping of 3 cm. The following possibilities are available to order from Efla with the lead.

Cable information

The secondary cable conductor is bare copper, class 5 (IEC 60228). The core insulation is a special EPR compound. The outer sheath is a halogen free TPR compound (IEC60754-2/ EN 50267-2-3). The operating voltage is 0.6/1kV, with a temperature range of -40 up to +120ºC. The short-circuited temperature is 300ºC and the bending radius 5xD. Please see table below.

The prefabricated primary leads with connectors are packed in recyclable cartons.

In some cases, it is possible to use two loads after one AGL series transformer, the KDCA.P2R being designed for this purpose.Distance between connectors is approx. 20 cm.

Materials: Both of the above mentioned products are made by assembling prefabricated products in combination. Please see page 14 for material information.

If the load supplied by standard AGL series transformers is insufficient, it is possible to use two AGL series transformers connected through KDCA.2PR.

Note: When the secondary circuit is earthed, only one of the transformers can have the earthing option. Otherwise, the secondary circuit will short circuit. Distance between connectors is approx. 20 cm.

Parallel transformers are designed to be connected to a normal line voltage (for example, ��0Vac).

Transformers are manufactured to supply a certain voltage in a secondary side. Normally, the voltages are received from standard 6.6 A bulbs or from �� V bulbs.

Possible connection methods involve using one core cable (KRV-type) or two core cable (KRVS-type).

The standard primary voltage is ��0 Vac, the max current rating �0 A and the frequency 50/60 Hz.

KRV transformers have two primary leads, of 0.6 m in length, with a T-type connector which has a FAA interface L-823, a style 2 Plug, and the other end with a FAA823, style 9 receptacle.

The secondary lead is 1.2 m in length, cable type 2 x 2.5 mm2, 0.6kV with a receptacle FAA L823, style 7.

KRV transformers are installed using Efla’s standard KD510 series con-nector kits (see page 4) or prefabricated unscreened leads and extension cords (see page 11). End Caps (KDCVO1) are used at the end of the circuit.

KRV transformers are installed using Efla’s standard KD501 and KD502 series connector kits (see page 6) or prefabricated secondary leads and extension cords (see page 10 and 11). End Cap (KDVS.END) is used at the end of the circuit.

KRVS uses a standard FAA secondary connector for both incoming and outgoing interfaces. The primary lead length is 0.6 m and it has a style 1 connector. The secondary lead length is 1.2 m and it is equipped with a FAA L-823 style 7 connector.

Each transformer can be connected using a prefabricated distribution connector assembly, KDCV.P2R.

Materials Encapsulation

Thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) is a modern engineering material with excellent electrical and mechanical properties and good chemical resistance to the chemicals used at airfields. TPE also has very good resistance to weathering, its insulation withstanding UV-radiation and ozone exposure. The material is also resistant to the effects of temperature (below 135ºC).Our experience lies in all classes of TPEs over a wide range of applications specially designed for airfield lighting solutions. Due to close cooperation with global suppliers, Efla Oy always uses the newest technology. Efla Oy has been molding Thermoplastic Elasto-mers (TPEs) for almost 30 years.

Packing material

The connectors are packed in recyclable cartons. Each connector kit is individually packed in a low density polyethylene (LDPE) plastic bag. ISPM15, International Phytosanitary Standard for Wood.
