C. IEEE Technical Lecture Series:

An IEEE Special Lecture series has been held on 29th Aug 2014, Friday at 3.45 pm at the ETCE

Dept., second floor, Room. No- T-3-7 organized by IEEE ComSoC Chapter and CAS Chapter.

There were total 3 series of lectures on the selected topics.

Speaker: Dr. Arijit Mukherjee, TCS Innovation Lab, Kolkata Lecture Topic: Grid, Cloud, Fog and Beyond, Time: 3.00-4.15 pm The future Internet, or the Internet of Things and the Internet of Everything, whatever we have

now seems inadequate. So the concept of Fog computing comes which brings the concept of

using mobile devices, home gateways, set top boxes as computing devices. In this talk, the

concepts of Big Data, the history of the Grid and Cloud and the rise of Fog computing as a new

paradigm along with some research cases that are actively pursued at TCS Innovation Labs

Kolkata are delivered nicely by Dr. Mukherjee.

Speaker: Arijit Ukil, TCS Innovation Lab, Kolkata

Topic: Security and Privacy in IoT Time: 4.15 -5.00 pm IoT (Internet of Things) systems like smart energy management expose sensor data that sense

human activity, containing private information. Such fine-grained sensor data also makes

different important 3rd party applications like smart grid control, dynamic pricing, elderly

monitoring possible. The fear of privacy breach (“spying inside home”) impedes practical

deployment of such applications and its acceptability. Unlike data and network security research,

data privacy research is at its nascent stage. Research activities on smart meter data privacy is

gaining pace, even governmental agencies are engaged to issue guidelines regarding protection

of consumer privacy. In this talk, particular focus on the description of IoT data privacy problem,

its impact and current solution on privacy preservation of smart energy management systems

have been covered.

Participants: 50, UG and PG students, Research scholars
