Course DescriptionThis course is about electronic records management. It explores how the increased use of electronic devices to create, receive and store documents has changed the field of records management

Course ObjectivesUpon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:

Define the meaning of records and information management. Include electronic documents in a records inventory and retention schedule. Understand relevant legislation that affects records management Prepare a file plan for paper and electronic records. Identify the strategies for electronic record keeping, migration, backup, and

offline storage technologies Explore the need for disaster recovery and the correct strategies for

implementation. Identify legal and ethical issues related to electronic business practices and

website maintenance. Create a database design using Microsoft Access.

ATTENDANCE

You must log into your course at least once prior to the end of the first week of the semester. Failure to do so may result in your being dropped from the course.

You have an assignment to complete each week. The assignment may have several activities such as reading, participating in a discussion, quiz, field trips, and writing reports. To complete each week’s assignment, carefully read the directions for that week and complete all activities. Submit the written assignment for each week by Sunday before midnight.Post your discussions early in the week and reply to other posts by Sunday before midnight. The purpose of discussions is to promote dialog between and among your classmates. Check the week and due date on the calendar for midterm, final, special assignments.

Late assignments may be submitted if the assignment is still available to you. There may be a penalty for submitting a late assignment. Always contact your instructor if you think you may not meet the deadline. This must be done prior to the due date.

The syllabus has general topics for each week and points assigned for each activity. But, it does not have all the directions for completing your activities

To complete each week’s assignments follow the directions provided for you. To find the directions, from the home page, click on the Learning Module icon, then scroll down to the current module. All directions and instructions are here.

Occasionally there may be a change in the directions for an assignment. Notice of any change will be made via email, announcement, or posted on the home page.

PARTICIPATIONAssignmentsSuggested steps each week:Each week starts and ends on Sunday. The week starts Sunday morning, and the week ends the following Sunday at 11:55 p.m.Check the current Learning Module. Read the directions carefully and complete all activities. Written Assignments Please try not to send assignments in close to midnight. There may be a time delay in transmission and all your hard work will not reach me in time. Quiz There is no make up for a quiz. Week 1 quiz may be taken more than once. Remember to save your answers before you hit the finish button. Discussion Go to the discussion board early in the week and post at least one reply to the discussion question. Return later in the week and post at least one response to another student’s posting. You will earn points for each post and response. No credit will be given after discussion ends on Sunday night.

There is a mid term project. This project replaces the traditional midterm exam. The mid term assignment is due at the end of the 8th week of semester.

There will be a final exam for this course.
