Aim of this course is for students to acquire basic knowledge about morphology and function of cells and tissues. They should understand cells and cell structure functioning principles, as well as the role of different types of tissues. They become capable of microscoping, tissues, cells and cell structure recognition. Knowledge and understanding of basic principles regarding morphology and function of cells and tissues, ability of microscoping and tissue description, cells and cell structures, abilituy of applying the knowledge in experimental procedures and passing other biology courses which require knowledge from the area of Cell and Tissue Biology.

Transport through cell membrane. Endocytosis and exocytosis. Nucleus and nucleolus. Chromatin and levels of its condensation. Metaphase and specialised chromozomes. Cytoplasm and cytoskeleton. Centrioles, flagella and cilia. Ribosomes. Endoplasmic reticulum. Golgi complex. Mitochondria. Proteasomes, lysosomes, peroxisomes. Extracellular matrix. Adhesion and cell communication. Knowledge acquired at this course will enable easier understanding of complex plants morphology, as well as recognizing the most important groups of fungi and their role in nature.

Systematics of algae: Cyanophyta (Cyanobacteria), Rhodophyta, Phyrrophyta, Xanthophyta, Chrysophyta, Bacillariophyta, Phaeophyta, Euglenophyta, Chlorophyta and Charophyta. Ecological adaptations of algae to life conditions. Interactions of algae with other organisms. Role and significance of algae in natural ecosystems and for people. General properties of fungi and role of mycology among other biological sciences. Place of fungi in living world system. Origin, evolution and phylogeny of fungi. Morphology and multiplying ways of fungi. Nomenclature and classification of fungi. Morphological and cytological characteristics, ways of multiplying, distribution, classification and ecology of division: Chytridomycota, Zygomycota, Ascomycota, Basidiomycota and Deuteromycota. Basics of fungi ecology. Mycorrhiza. Fungi as pathogenic organisms. Lichen. Fungi as food, as a source of unicellular proteins, using fungi in industrial biotransformations. Biodegradation, negative and positive aspects. Misuse of fungi and their metabolites. Significance of fungi biodiversity preservation. The aim of this course is to introduce students to diversity of higher plants, on the whole planet, as well as in our country. To learn about endemic, endangered, protected and economically important representatives of vascular flora of Serbia. Students will be introduced to the diversity of higher plants and their phylogenetic relations. Besides that, they will be enabled to correctly identify the most important species of higher plants that live on our territory.

Review of higher plants phylogeny. Practical knowledge:

Introduction to properties of certain reperesentatives of systematic categories of higher plants via herbarium, fresh, wet and permanent preparations. It is obligatory to work in the field at appropriate locations where herbal material is collected, herbalized and specified.

Students will gain fundamental knowledge about ecology. They will gain knowledge about interactions between living organisms and their environment and about influence of the environment on distribution of living organisms. Understanding of basic ecological laws, such as energy flow and circulation of matter which is the base for understanding organic production intensity in certain ecosystems. This knowledge can be used in solving some current environmental disorders and ecological balance issues, such as pollution, and exploitation of natural resources. Water ecosystems, species, population, introduction, life cycle, natality and mortality monitoring, dispersion and migration. Organism and environment, introduction of species, life cycle and dispersion, coevolution. Hunting, population processes, food chains, biodiversity, energy and matter flow, primary production, decomposition, global biogeochemical processes, applied ecology, problem of human population, monoculture, control of pesticides, integrated farm systems. Pollution, urban pollution, agicultural pollution, atmospheric pollution, nuclear radiation. Practical knowledge: Autoecology- life form and ecological niche of some plants. The aim of the course is to upgrade and acquire new knowledge about physiology of organ systems and organisms, to understand dependence of physiological functions on the level of living organisms organization and environmental conditions, to understand mechanism of homeostasis and living organisms adaptations, to become enabled to notice damaged physiological functions and factors that have led to disfunction of physiological conditions, to acquire skills of laboratory work and become enabled to make hypotheses and integrate their knowledge into solving of physiological problems. Formation of an expert capable to integrate the knowledge in the area of animal physiology and other similar disciplines into solving problems regarding living organisms functioning. Enabling students for critical approach to physiological problems solving,

Adopting basic principles and mechanisms of biological evolution and understanding conceptual and methodological approaches which are included in molecular biology. Understanding relation between evolutionary processes at molecular and population level, evolutionary processes and genome organization, as well as influence of genetic, epigenetic and environmental factors on phenotypes development. Understanding of relation between evolution and other biological disciplines. Introduction to historical development of evolutionary thought. Critical approach to non-evolutionary interpretation of living world origin and development. Students will be able to implement their knowledge in relevant evolutionary concepts, rationally and logically explain biological phenomenons according to evolutionary biology principles,

Natural and sexual selection, individual variability, adaptive value, choice of habitat, forms and levels of natural selection influence. Limited size of population and genetic drift, consanguinity, effective size of population, genealogy of genes in populations of limited size, migrations and population structure, gene flow. Mutations, spacial distribution of mutations, whether mutations are accidental at the molecular level, mutation rates. Genomes organization and evolution. Adaptability and evolution of adaptive value components, phenotype stability, coevolution, full reproduction in light of evolution. Biogenetic law, evolutionary trends, body frame and onthogenetic restraints, evolutionary innovations, genetic assimilation and Boldwin effect, multicellular organization, modification of development, role of homeotic selective genes in ontogeny and phylogeny. Theory of evolution and phylogeny, speed of evolutionary processes, phylogenetic reconstruction molecule watch. Conception of species, speciation, forms of speciation, extinction. Training students for field work. Revising theoretical ecologic and biogeographic learning units through practical field work. Developing awareness of complexity of the analyzed natural ecosystems, their role and significance in preserving biologic diversity. Students are enabled to realize basic ecologic phenomenons and processes in natural environment. Formation of a researcher capable of performing field work in different biologic disciplines who will advocate preservation of natural environment.

Practical knowledge

Field and practical work at the location of Tara, lasting several days. First day of field work will be dedicated to introducing students to specifics of flora and fauna of the river Vrelo and Raca. On the second day, students will be introduced to the specifics of national park Tara, which includes: components of the soil, plant communities, presence of relict and endemic plants, certain animal species and their behaviour. Also, students will be introduced to ways and methods of endangered species protection, as well as characteristic relations in and among living organisms populations. Phytocoenologic recordings should be taken, determining aspectivity of plant communities, as well as qualitative analysis of levels in different types of plant communities. Sampling and identification of pedofauna of forest litter should also be performed as well as sampling and identification of Arthropoda. On the third day, students will be introduced to water ecosystem at the lake Perucac. They should sample plankton, perifiton and bentos and get intoduced to indicators of water troficity. The fourth day will be performed in the canyon of the river Derventa and the river Crni Rzav. Students are introduced to relict, endemic and water flora and fauna. They will sample and identify plants and animals (invertebrates) in order to make collections. Field work presents work of the students on their own, with instructions and supervision of a teaching assistant. Students keep diary and present the results of their field work at the final exam.

Pedagogical implications of the laws and principles of learning psychology. Psychological service in schools, its programme and tasks. Learning motivation and self-regulated learning. Learning and teaching. Planning and evaluation of educational process. Special problems in schools: underachievement, behavioural problems, school violence, learning difficulties, drug abuse. Education of children with special needs, inclusion. Collaboration of psychologist, pedagogist, teacher and parents, models of upbringing.

Practical knowledge Discussions, analysis of original scientific papers and research work, workshops, individual and group presentations, practical work issuing from theory. Within the course, a student is supposed to do practice on his own, with tasks and obligations set in advance, in a school or pre-school facility. It lasts five days and it is under supervision of a school psychologist or pedagogist. Students write practice diary and it is evaluated as a seminar. Theoretical knowledge Definition and historical development of hydrobiology as a unique science. Water as living environment: physical and chemical properties of water and biotic factors in it. Vertical and horizontal zoning and seasonal changeability in aquatic ecosystems. Biocenologic successions. Cyclomorphosis and anthropogenic factor. Specific characteristics of seas and oceans. Inland waters, their origin and origin of living organisms inhabiting them. Properties of underground waters and living world in them. Types of fresh water surface ecosystems: running waters, still waters (lakes – tectonic, erosive, accumulative, thermic, artificial, swamps, marshes, hydrosystems) and their characteristics. Distribution, content and seasonal dinamycs of communities – plankton, nekton, bentos, peryphiton and aquatic vegetation. Toxic influence of algae and other hydrobionts. Aquatic ecosystems as a source of organic matter: primary production, food chains and specific properties of organisms according to the way of nutrition. Natural production of aquatic ecosystems, eutrophication and its slowing down. Pollution of aquatic ecosystems, types of pollution, biological effect of water polluters and measures of preventing pollution. Biological methods of water quality measuring. Hydrobiology and fishery. Writing seminars in the area of hydrobiology and water protection.
