Transfer of technology: As a Scientist at CISH, Lucknow worked for dissemination of research results and technology

developed:

1. Advisory services: Orchrdists were advised on the problems of mango cultivation with particular

reference to problems of Plant Protection, during field visits and their visits to laboratory. Some

times on their request, their orchards were also visited, problems were studied on the spot and

suitable measures were suggested to solve their problems.

2. Participation in extension programmes: Actively participated in various extension programes

i.e. Gosthis, Women in Agriculture day, Science Day, etc. organized by the institute from time to

time, interacted with the orchardists on problems of Plant Protectionduring these programme. Also

delivered talks, answered the queries of the orchardists and suitable advice/recommendations were

given to solve the problems of Plant Protection in mango.

3. Participation in lab to land programme: I was member of the lab to land committee for three

Significant Contributions in Research: (A) Work done at Forest Research Institute & Colleges, Dehradun:

1. Detailed studies were conducted on insect pests of forest trees in nurseries, plantations and natural forests, i.e., sal, poplars, shisham, subabul, teak, pines, devdar, e.t.c., major, potential new and exotic insect pests were identified, crop losses assessed, technologies were developed for management of insect pest problems and transferred to the consumers (Foresters, Farmers, Commercial growers, Industries, e. t. c.). Research results were published.

25

2. Aerial spraying of chemicals to control poplar defoliator epidemic in poplar plantations of Tarai Central Forest Division: Work on monitoring of population, forecasting epidemic outbreak and taking timely spraying to control poplar defoliator in the above area was done.

3. Aerial spraying of chemicals to control deodar defoliator epidemic in forests of lolab valley,

Jammu and Kashmir: Conducted studies on biology, life-history, monitoring of population, and causes of epidemic out break in the area for the first time and the pest was managed successfully by aerial spraying of insecticides.

4. Outcome of various studies were published. (B) Work carried out at Central Institute for Sub-Tropical Horticulture,

Lucknow, from 18.12. 1984 to 30.09.2003, as Scientist in Agricultural Research Services)

Made an original contribution to the study of insect pest problems in fruit crops particularly, mango, guava, litchi, aonla, e. t. c. Studies were conducted on the identification, bio-ecology, crop losses and agro-technologies were developed for management of major insect pests, recommendations were made, demonstrations done and Extension Bulletins were published. Efforts were also made to popularize the technologies among the farmers by on farm demonstrations and by means of other extension programs.

(C) Work done at A.M.U., Aligarh: (for the period fro m 02.10.2003-onwards)

Studies were conducted on bio-ecology and management of major insect pests of fruit, vegetable and oilseed crops (Guava, Brinjal, Cole and Castor) in Aligarh region. Time of appearance and occurrence of major pests, their peak period of activity, seasonal incidence, correlation with weather parameters, natural enemy complex, e. t.c ., were worked out for taking pest control decisions and working out management strategies. Results of Laboratory and field evaluation of commercial bio-pesticides and new molecules will be helpful in further evaluation in pilot trials to make use in IPM of the major insect pests (Fruit flies, Bactrocera spp., diamond back moth Plutella xyllostella(L.); tobbaco caterpillar Spodoptera litura; hadda beetle Henosepilachna vigintioctopunctata (F.); shoot and fruit borer, Leucinodes orbonalis (Guen); castor butterfly Ariadne merione merione C.), etc.)
