GLIS Company Profile

Germanischer Lloyd (GL) was established in 1867 as a TechnicalInspection Organization to ensure an acceptable safety level in shipdesign, construction and, through re-surveys, operation. In the courseof time, other survey activities were taken up, such as those related topower plants, petrochemical plants, industrial goods, offshoreproduction and processing facilities. Originally, GL had been organizedin the form of a Co-operative Society. In 1889, at the initiative of theGerman Government, which, subject to Section 54 of the SocietysStatutes valid at the time, had been controlling the Society since 1875,

the present legal form was introduced. As defined by the SocietysStatutes, all activities are performed on a non-profit basis.

Governmental Relationships, Authorisations

The Government of the Federal Republic of Germany hasnominated Germanischer Lloyd as expert organisation servingthe Government in the fields of marine engineering andoffshore technology. In this context, the Federal Ministry ofResearch and Technology has in addition appointedGermanischer Lloyd ``Project Attendant`` for naval and

offshore technology research and development projectspromoted by the Government.

By Decree of the Energy Department of the United Kingdom of1974 Germanischer Lloyd was nominated as CertifyingAuthority for Offshore installations to be operated in the Britishcontinental shelf sector. A similar authorisation was conferredto Germanischer

Lloyd by the Dutch Mining Authority responsible for offshoreoperations.

By Presidential Decree No.894 of 1978 the Republic of Greeceauthorised Germanischer Lloyd as Certifying Authority forOffshore installations in Greek waters. Germanischer LloydsCertificates of Class and Certificates of Fitness for offshorestructures are accepted by the Government of the ArabianRepublic of Egypt, Indonesia, South Africa and others.

For high-pressure gas pipelines, both onshore and offshore theGerman Approving Authority (Oberbergamt) has approved

Germanischer Lloyd as expert organisation according to theDecree on High-Pressure Gas Installations of 1974.Germanischer Lloyd is acknowledged and authorised by morethan 100 governments worldwide to issue certificates forpressure vessels and boilers.

GL has been accredited by various Governments and leadingorganizations. GL has over 1500 employees with world-widenetwork and is acting as an independent technical organizationto ensure and to certify the safety of ships, marine installations,Offshore and Onshore Oil and Gas installation and terminals and

Engineering projects. Germanischer Lloyd Industrial Services,(GLIS) is a subsidiary of GL. These appraisals/surveys coverintegrity, reliability and safety.

Germanischer Lloyd Industrial Services GmbH (GLIS) wasestablished in the year 2003 as a wholly owned affiliate of GLand took over the whole offshore and industrial businessactivities. This included, amongst others, Wind Energy,Consultancy, Technical Expertise, Certification, Inspection andTesting, and Maintenance Planning/Auditing in the main fields ofstructures (offshore platforms), pipelines and petrochemical

plants for the onshore and offshore industry.

The scope of capabilities, presented together with membercompanies of the GL Group, the British-based Advantica Group,Canadian PV Inspection, Malaysias Trident Consultants and U.S.Material Consultancy Services comprises design review andverification, risk assessments, quality assurance and control (QA/QC),acceptance tests, asset integrity management and conditionmonitoring as well as large-scale hazard testing.

Surveillance of installatione.g. Onshore Plants: surveillance/quality audits duringconstruction,e.g. Offshore Plants: surveillance/quality audits during onshorefabrication/ construction and offshore hook-up, plus witnessingof load-out, transportation and offshore installation

e.g. Power Plants including Auxiliaries and Sub stations.

Surveillance of mechanical completion plus pre-commissioning/testinge.g. pressure testing of pipe work systems, electrical andinstrument loop checking, etc., and operation of safety devicesand emergency shut-down systems

"It is confirmed that the design, fabrication andinstallation of the plant and equipment thereincomply with appropriate international codes andstandards, including the Rules and Regulations ofGermanischer Lloyd.

There are no reservations from a safety point of view tothe operation of the Plant/Equipment for the intendedpurpose."
