COMPANY PROFILE
Bitcon Industries (Pty) Ltd is the leading name in the
manufacture, supply of security, fire and lead-lined
doors. Its range of products include: hinged and
sliding fire doors, lead-lined doors, security doors,
transformer room doors, mild and stainless steel
doors as well as frames.
Bitcon Industries is based in Jet Park, Boksburg and
supply doors through out Africa. With the expertise
of its technical and sales team, Bitcon provides
extensive advice at early design stage on details,
feasibility and technical specifications.

• STABILITY is the door’s ability to fulfill its design function of keeping an
opening closed in the face of fire so that no fissure or opening wider than
25mm develops.
• INTEGRITY enables the door to resist fire without the development
of perpendicular through openings wider than 6mm and longer in total
than the largest dimension of the door.
• INSULATION refers to the door’s ability to prevent the transmission
of enough heat to raise the mean unexposed face temperature by more
than 140°C above the initial temperature .
• IMPACT TEST enables the door to resist two successive impacts of a
sandbag 250mm in diameter, and a mass of 27kg without the formation
of any opening wider than 25mm. This test, which is fully described in The
South African National Standard - Section 5.5 and 5.6.

DOOR FINISHES
The doors can be clad in a variety of finishes with supawood
as a standard paint finish, masonite, commercial veneer,
exotic veneers (subject to availability), mild steel, stainless
steel and Formica laminates.
Veneered doors are lipped with a matching concealed
timber edging and steel doors with channels surrounds as
per the door cladding.
HINGES
Heavy duty 100mm/4.0mm thick flanged Stainless Steel hinges with nylon washers. Standard door leaves are fitted with 1.5 pair of hinges and two pairs on non-standard door leaves.

Bitcon Rubidor® Fire Doors are designed to fulfill the requirements of the National Test Standard. The core
is constructed from a magnesium oxychloride monolithic reinforced insulative material with excellent fire
resistance and mechanical strength.

STANDARD DOOR SIZES
Single doors - 813/900 x 2032H.
Double doors - 1511/1614 x 2032H.
MAXIMUM SIZES
Single doors 1000W x 2400H.
Double doors 2000W x 2400H.
Doors in excess of 2400H can be manufactured with a door height of 2400 mm and
a fixed fanlight panel with either a fixed or removable frame transom rail between
the top of the door and the bottom of the fanlight panel to a maximum overall height
of 3000 mm.
VIEWING PANELS (Optional / Extra)
A viewing panel to a maximum permitted size of l00mm x 300mm that has been tested in accordance with the fire rating of the door, can be fitted to and are permitted on class A, B & E doors only. The viewing panels consist of double glazed clear Georgian wired glass with brushed stainless steel frame surrounding each side.
IRONMONGERY
Both single and double doors can be fitted with standard tested locks and closers. Where electric locks are required, details of these locks must be supplied in order to prepare the frame strike cut out.
METAL INSERTS
A metal insert has been built-in to accommodate door closers. Pilot holes must be drilled into this plate and closers fitted with self tapping screws.
INSTALLATION
Doors and frames will be delivered to site as a unit. The doors are provided with a hardwood edging strip, so that a limited amount of dressing is available to compensate for misalignment of the frame. When installed by the contractor the door and frame unit must be installed square true and plumb with the door/s in the closed position. The bottom leading edge/s or the door/s must be wedged to support the vertical load of the door on the frame. The wedge/s should not be removed until the brickwork is satisfactory cured.
LABELLING
All doors are required to be labeled, indicating BITCON INDUSTRIES (The Manufacturer’s Name), identification number, classification and year of manufacture.
FRAMES
Frames are pressed from l.6mm (Class A, B & E) or 2mm (Class D) steel sheet or galvanised
sheet if required and are fully welded. They can be formed to a single or double rebated
profile with 52mm x 25mm rebates.
Bitcon Sliding Fire Doors are designed to
fulfill the requirements of the National
Test Standard. The core is carefully
constructed from our insulative material,
which is covered on both sides with steel
sheeting and a 3mm channel surround
screwed on. Bitcon’s range of Sliding
Fire Doors include single, bi-parting and
double direction doors.
TRACK
The door runs on two ball bearing trollies, which run in
an overhead track bolted to the masonry above the lintel.
Flush pull handles are fitted, and the door, which runs clear of
the floor, is guided by guide rollers fixed into the floor.
OVERLAP REQUIREMENTS
Sliding doors are required to overlap the opening by a
minimum of l00mm at the top and 75mm on each side of
the opening.

LABELING

AUTOMATIC OPERATION
Bitcon’s range of sliding doors are fitted with a fully automatic closing system, comprising a heat sensitive fusible link and a system of ball bearing
pulleys, steel cable, weights and weight casing. The casing can be fitted at either end of the track. The closing system is static under normal
circumstances, allowing the door to be opened and closed manually without difficulty. If the link fuses, the door will be moved to the fully
closed position.
INSTALLATION
Is normally carried out by Bitcon.

DOOR FINISHES
The doors can be clad in a variety of finishes
such as masonite, timber veneer (exotic veneers
subject to availability) and steel sheeting.
FRAMES (Hinged Doors)
The frames are manufactured from 1.6mm mild
steel or galvanised sheeting if required in a
double rebated profile to suit the relevant wall
thickness. The internal rebate of the frame is
lined with lead of a thickness compatible with
the lining in the door.
HINGES
The doors are fitted with heavy duty 4.0mm
flanged Stainless Steel butt hinges with 11/2
pair per leaf on standard size doors and 2
pairs on non-standard doors.
SLIDING DOORS
Lead-Lined Sliding Doors are manufactured
100mm larger on the top and on each side
than the actual opening.
Bitcon Lead-Lined Hinged and Sliding Doors are designed and manufactured to afford personnel protection
from X-rays in environments where X-ray equipment is in use by reducing the level of exposure to an
international accepted level. The doors have a laminated constructed core with a centrally located lead sheet
lining of a thickness compatible with the degree of exposure from the equipment being used.
TRACK
Sliding Doors are supplied with overhead sliding track, trolleys, floor
guide rollers and door stops.
IRONMONGERY
Doors can be fitted with ironmongery, but care must be taken that the
lead lining of the door is not damaged.
Veneered doors - 1.5 mm lead lining - 50 kg/m2
Steel clad doors - 1.5 mm lead lining - 63kg/m 2
In order to establish suitable thickness of lead-lining.
P = 0.1 (Roetgen Factor) Current acceptable level
of exposure to radiation workers.
d = Distance from exposure in metres.
W = Workload in milliamps/minute per week
(This should insofar as possible, be
averaged over a period of several months).
U = Use factor. 0 to I (ie.50%=0.5 100%=1).
T = Occupancy Factor (1 = 100% ).

Bitcon Security Doors consist of the Anti-Bandit, Polar® and Hippo® doors, each designed to fulfill a specific
security function. The doors comprise a reinforced bullet resistant core to suit the security application with a
veneer or steel finish, stainless steel channel surround and a stainless steel stile to the leading edge of the door
to limit access to the locking mechanism.
ANTI-BANDIT DOOR
The Anti-Bandit door is designed to protect personnel
and equipment vulnerable to small armed attacks
and fulfill the requirements of the SABS Test Standard
1658-1996 for the weapons and ammunition detailed
overleaf. Applications include offices, banking halls,
internal doors of private residences and embassies.
The Anti-Bandit door can also be specified with an
insulative material to provide a 105mm fire rating.
POLAR® & HIPPO® DOORS
The Polar® and Hippo® doors are designed for
external and internal use to protect personnel and
equipment in high security areas. These doors fulfill
the requirements of the SABS Test Standard 1658-1996
for the weapons and ammunition detailed overleaf.
Typical applications include: Access doors to control
buildings, power stations, sub-stations, embassies,
diplomatic residences and financial institutions.

Veneered plywood with stainless steel channel surround.
FRAMES
The frames are pressed from 3mm steel sheet or
galvanised sheet fully welded and formed to a double
rebated profile with a 54mm x 20mm rebate.
INSTALLATION
The door and frame unit must be installed square true and plumb with the door in the
closed position. The bottom leading edge or the door must be wedged to support the
vertical load of the door on the frame. The wedge should not be removed until the brickwork
is satisfactory cured.

ATTACK RESISTANCE LEVELS
Anti-intrusion doors are designed to protect personnel and equipment that are vulnerable
to armed attack. These doors are designed to withstand various levels of assault. The doors
resist the weapons and ammunition detailed below as tested in accordance with the SABS
Test Standard 1658-1996 and comply with the British Standards Organisation BS5051.

HINGES
The doors are fitted to the frame with a heavy duty
continuous gear hinge, which eliminates the gap
between the door and frame, preventing the door
from been pried open or removed.
VIEWING PANELS (Optional / Extra)
A viewing panel consisting of a 200mm x 300mm
bullet-resistant glass with a stainless steel frame
surround can be fitted. Viewing panels may only
be fitted to Anti-Bandit (38mm) and Polar doors
(53mm). The design of the frame surround is such
that the frame cannot be unscrewed from the
attack side of the door. Viewing panels may only
be fitted to Anti-Bandit and Polar Doors®.
IRONMONGERY
The doors are fitted with a single or double
(depending on requirements) security lock with
key operation externally, and thumb turn release
internally. 300mm pull handles are fitted to both
sides of the door.
METAL INSERTS

plate and closers fitted with self tapping screws.
FRAME
The frames are pressed from 1.6mm steel
sheeting or pre-galvanised steel sheeting for
coastal conditions fully welded in a double
rebated profile.

The doors are fitted with l00mm heavy duty
4.0mm thick flanged Stainless Steel hinges.
FINISH
The doors are finished with a red oxide primer.
Galvanised units are cleaned with degreasing
solution and finished with a galvanised
primer. Doors are not available in hot-dipped
galvanised finish.
IRONMONGERY
Doors are fitted with a pull handle, padlatch
and barrel bolts to double doors as a standard
or other ironmogery as specified.
LOUVRE VENTS
Louvre vents lined on the inside with a vermin
proof mesh screen size 560mm x 560mm (AV.)
can be fitted to the doors or manufactured
fully louvred if required.
LOUVRE PANELS
Louvre panels lined on the inside with a
vermin proof mesh screen sizes 900mm x
747mm (ALU) and 1590mm x 747mm (BLU)
complete with rebated frame surround for
installation in walls are also available.
