A multi-purpose building erected at a cost of Rs. 8 million was constructed at the Ban-daraduwa school, Ampara on a concept by President Mahinda Rajapaksa. The Ceylon Muslim Missionary Society (CMMS) organised a youth seminar on 'Role of Muslim Youth in a Multi-Ethnic Society' at the YMMA Conference Hall, Colombo recently. The Sri Lanka Malay Association honoured the Malay Armed Forces and police personnel who were killed in action during 30 years of terrorism at the Sri Lanka Malay Club premises at ‘Padang’, Kew Road, Colombo 2 recently. Popular tele and cine artiste and Rupavahini and radio presenter Srimath Indrajith Liyanage was presented the Sarasavi Prasada Pranama Award, in recognition of his service to the media and arts at a ceremony at the Colombo Public Library auditorium recently. Prominent author and environmentalist Jayantha Wijewickrama's latest book titled Lowatama Penena Rathu Kuluna a biography on Fidel Castro was launched at the Embassy of Cuba, in Colombo. The Central Bank of Sri Lanka introduced a micro finance loan scheme through Bank of Ceylon, Akkaraipattu branch provided loans to several women from low income families in the Akkara-ipattu DS Division recently, to raise an awareness of the standard of living of people and to eradicate poverty. Service following Good Friday/Easter

A service to bring alive the spiritual impact of Good Friday and Easter in the life of a human being will be held on Sunday, April 14 at 10.30 a.m. at the Cathedral of Christ the Living Saviour, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 7. Dr. Vijaya Corea will speak on “Was Good Friday and Easter a true life experi-ence or just another day on the calendar that simply passed by ?”.

Krishnamurti talk

A recorded public talk on “What is meditation?” delivered by the late Indian sage J. Krishnamurti will be replayed at the Study Centre, Beddegana, Duwa Road, Kotte today at 10.30 a.m.
