Purpose of the Traffic Impact Analysis
Traffic impact analysis (TIA) is the general study of the extent to which proposed land use developments, and the traffic they are expected to generate, will affect the adjacent or surrounding transportation system.
Evaluates potential traffic impact of a proposed development on the roadways in the surrounding area:– Identify/address potential traffic operations problems – Identify/address operational needs– Identify/address community safety challenges

Traffic Impact Analysis (Previous Guidelines in Houston District)
No Formal Requirements When is a TIA requested?
– Commercial Development(s) • Sites 20 acres or more• Case by Case for sites 5 to 20 acres
– Residential or Mixed-Use Communities– Industrial or Warehouse Facilities– Mega churches– Schools– Large Fueling Station

Safety Improvements/Mitigation Measures:
Pedestrian/Bicycle Facilities– Meeting Federal Design Criteria
• July 2020 Roadway Design Manual Bicycle Accommodations – Shared-Use Path
• Accommodates both pedestrians and bicyclists • Can be beneficial in limited ROW
