Council has been reviewing the WestConnex EIS, informed by the concerns raised by the community at our Public Meetng on the 23rd September and work undertaken by independent experts. A response to the WestConnex EIS will be considered at tonight s Council meetng and identfes many issues, failings and limitatons with the EIS data, modelling, process and conclusions. In response, Council is making over 140 recommendatons in regards to heritage, transport and trafc, air quality, noise and vibraton, urban design and socioeconomic impacts. Nominations now open for the 2016 Australia Day Awards Nominatons are now open for Ashfeld Council s 2016 Australia Day Awards for the Citzen of the Year, Young Citzen of the Year, Young Artst of the Year and Young Sportsperson of the Year . The Australia Day Awards are an important way to formally acknowledge and thank local residents for their contributons and achievements in our local community. If you know someone who has volunteered their tme to help others or someone who has made a signifcant contributon to the local area, why not nominate them for an Australia Day Award? Nominees must be Australian citzens, aged 16 and over and residing in, or contributng to, the Ashfeld municipality at the tme of nominaton. The Award recipients will be announced at a special ceremony on Australia Day, 26 January 2016 which will also include a Citzenship Ceremony. Ashfield Council is financially sustainable and has the necessary operational and strategic capacity to deliver high quality services for the local Ashfield community . Our services are recognised as models of leading practice and, by the State Government s own TCorp ( NSW Treasury Corporations ) assessment, Ashfield is in a sound financial position. However, Ashfield Council does not meet the State Government’s arbitrary ‘scale’ criteria due to our smaller population. Council consulted with our community earlier this year about views on amalgamations, receiving over 1700 feedback forms and other submissions. 46% of community members indicated a preference for Ashfield Council to stand alone, 36% indicated an amalgamation with Leichhardt and Marrickville Councils would be preferable, with the remaining 18% indicating a preference for mergers with 5 other Inner West Councils; Burwood, Strathfield, Marrickville, Leichhardt and the City of Canada Bay . As the Government seems determined to significantly reduce the number of councils in NSW, an extraordinary meeting was held on Monday 26 october to determine if Ashfield Council would seek further talks with its neighbouring councils about a possible amalgamation. Nominations now open for the 2016 Australia Day Awards

Nominatons are now open for Ashfeld Council’s 2016 Australia Day Awards for

the Citzen of the Year, Young Citzen of the Year, Young Artst of the Year and Young Sportsperson of the Year.

The Australia Day Awards are an important way to formally acknowledge and thank local residents for their contributons and achievements in our local community. If you know someone who has volunteered their tme to help others or someone who has made a signifcant contributon to the local area, why not nominate them for an Australia Day Award?

Nominees must be Australian citzens, aged 16 and over and residing in, or contributng to, the Ashfeld municipality at the tme of nominaton.

The Award recipients will be announced at a special ceremony on Australia Day, 26 January 2016 which will also include a Citzenship Ceremony.

Council mergers

Last Tuesday the NSW Premier Mike Baird made an announcement to Councils

giving them 30 days to reconsider their position in relation to amalgamations before a final decision is made.

Ashfield Council is financially sustainable and has the necessary operational and strategic capacity to deliver high quality services for the local Ashfield community. Our services are recognised as models
