Students return to school on Tuesday, 15th October. School Swimming lessons take place in Term 4 Weeks 3 and 4. There will be further information about this closer to the date. Our last day of term is Friday 27th September.

Weston Jackson Principal YOHFest 2019- Belonging On Monday 26th August some of the Year 4, 5 and 6 students took to the stage at the REAP and participated in this year’s YOHFest performance.

The students choreographed their dance moves to tell the story of Belonging. Ellah Chudziak wrote a beautiful speech to introduce our presentation of "Free to be me".

It was such an amazing experience for all of the students to get the feel of what it is like to perform in front of such a large audience and the fun of being backstage. After the performance students were able to go into the auditorium and watch the rest of the other schools perform which included dance, drama and new this year, a music category. We were the only primary school to perform once again this year.

I was so proud of each and every one of them. Sue-Ann de Vries Performing Arts

Book Week On Thursday 22nd August MWPS held a Book Week dress up parade. This year’s theme was “Reading is my Secret Power”. As always students and parents made a huge effort in coming to school with some creative and imaginative dress ups. It is always a fun day. Creating a love of reading is an important step for all children as it is a skill they have for life. Creating this love for reading can be developed through reading to your child daily and assisting them to find a series or an author that they like. Our school library has lots of books to read, our library officer Mrs Roach will be more than happy to assist students with this. Remember: “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you’ll go. – Dr. Suess Congratulations to all of our Book Week winners! Faction Carnival On Wednesday the 28th of August, the wonderful jumping, throwing and running skills of Millars Well Primary school students were on display during our annual Jumps and Throws Carnival. It was fantastic to see all of those who participated, trying to beat their personal best. A special thanks to Antia McDonald and Family for assisting with the long jump pit during the day.

On Friday the 30th of August, a sea of blue, red, green and orange embarked upon the Millars Well oval for our annual Faction Carnival! Kindy and Pre Primary started the day with some wonderful running in front of the fantastic crowd of parents. All who participated on the day made our school proud demonstrating fantastic sportsmanship, whether it was in an individual running race or in team games. Many thanks to Jeff Payne and Gil McComb for assisting on the day. You are all a part of the reason we had a wonderful day!

Nihongo is easy I say. There is no masculine-feminine. There are no changes in intonation. There are only 5 different ways used to write.

WHAT? Nani? 5?

Ok! Maybe not so easy…

We have been making sure we know all these language systems in class.

Firstly, there is English Eigo, Nihonjin love Eigo.

It’s cool, hip and happening. But some of the things

they write, are so wrong…

Japanese English is often referred to as Japlish.

The main Japanese writing system is hiragana. It’s very curvy. There are

46 main hiragana characters. Similar to English, they are sounds that join

together to make words. This is what our students are learning in order to

obtain their karate belts.

Kanji is also used. These characters individually have meanings and then

placed next to other kanji may change their meaning. They are from China.

Some have been changed a little. Some can have many strokes others only a

few. Our students know their numbers and days of the week in Kanji.

Katakana is another writing system. It is the same as hiragana. Same sounds

and numbers of characters. However, they are straighter looking and are

mainly used for borrowed words from other languages. Students will only

learn how to write their own name using katakana. This is taught in High School.

Lastly, is romaji. This is the writing of Japanese using our alphabet. This

is so it’s easier for us to learn. Thank goodness for romaji

Like to learn some more? Contact me or come in and enjoy a Nihongo class. It’s saiko,

just ask our students.

Kindy BBQ

On Monday 2nd

September the two Kindy classes had a barbecue to celebrate Father’s Day. The Kindy children, their dad’s and/or their special guests joined us for the evening. The children and their guests enjoyed some time to play in the Early Childhood outdoor area, a sausage sizzle and drink, and even had a wheel barrow race. This BBQ was enjoyed by all and was a great way for the Dads to get to know each other. Thank you to all those who came.

Fundraising Update!

This year the Junior Primary classes have been fundraising as part of the MoneySmart Program. This program has been completed in previous years at Millars Well and the students have always enjoyed it. The program teaches concepts of money through fundraising and how to make a difference for people who may be less fortunate than themselves. The two charities that we have been raising money for are the Kmart Wishing Tree and the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal. So far this year we have raised a whopping $1566. This money has come from the following fundraising events. Pyjama Day and Bake sale: $744 Parent night sausage sizzle: $335 Sausage sizzle: $487 Thank you for your contributions to these events and stay tuned for the next fundraising event!
