COMMUNICATIVE COMPETENCE:
Dell Hymes proposed the concept of communicative
competence. (June 7, 1927,Portland, Oregon–
November 13, 2009, Charlottesville, Virginia)
The basic idea of communicative competenceremains the ability to use language appropiately,both receptively and productively, in realsituations.
Communicative tests are intended to be ameasure of how the test takers are able to uselanguage in real life situation.

Communicative tests are often verycontext-specific.
A communicative language testshould be based on a description ofthe language that the test takers needto use.
Communicative Tests should reflect thecommunicative situation in which thetest taker are likely to find themselves

Examples of communicative language tests:
Students in a class may listen to alecture, but they later need to useinformation from the lecture in a paper.
In taking part in a group discussion, they need to useboth listening and speaking skill and later have acomprehension assessment evaluation.
Even reading a book for pleasure may befollowed by recommending it to a friend and telling the friend why you liked it.
