School Council We would like to thank Ushan Lokuge who has served on School Council and has given notice of his intention to step down from the council. Ushan’s contributions to the development of school policies have been highly valued and we thank him for his commitment of time. We welcome Simone Armitage who will now be joining Belinda Walker, Esme Wheatley, Emma Balogh and Nicole Albert as our 2020 school council. School Policies: School Council review and revise school policies on a regular cycle. Most recently a new policy has been added - a mobile phone policy (please read the information on page 2 related to this new policy) Medication: We CANNOT give medication of any kind, without your written permission. If you need your child medicated during the day, whether on a short term or long term basis, you must fill out a medication form, available from the office. The information that you send should have full information as to dosages, times, indications for use and permission for the medication to be administered. This information should be given to the office along with all
medication in original containers. If the medication is for ongoing issues such as ADHD or asthma, a full management plan should be given to the school on the appropriate form

PRINCIPAL’S NEWS
Mobile phones, smart watches and similar devices
Schools in the state of Victoria are now mandated by the Department of Education to have policies regarding
mobile phones (and any other communication devices). Our policy was developed and endorsed by School
Council at the end of 2019. The policy is available on our school website
https://www.cranbourne-ps.vic.edu.au/
What does this mean?
Children MUST NOT have or use mobile communication devices or similar at school. If parents wish their child to
have a device for the purpose of travelling to and from school, the device will be required to be handed in to
teachers each morning and then collected as they leave each afternoon. Children must NEVER have one of the
above devices or similar in their bag, locker or in their possession during school time.
To assist the school in supporting students whose parents want their children to have mobile communication
devises, parents are asked to complete the permission form being sent home with students this week. Any
mobile communication devices either: (i) found in a student’s possession during the day (ii) used on school
premises (iii) brought to school without parent’s signed permission will be confiscated
Parking and traffic:
Please be patient and considerate when picking up and dropping off students at school, especially when the
weather is not conducive to parents getting out of vehicles . We understand that it is a difficult situation,
especially after school, as it is at most schools. The risk to children crossing roads at points NOT supervised by a
crossing guide is HIGH. There should be NO children crossing sections of the road without an adult at points
other than the supervised marked crossing sections. Parents are asked to NOT encourage students to cross the
road without an adult on Childers St. (back of school)
There are some simple messages about parking and pickup.
Be patient and courteous
Please consider our school neighbors and park in designated spaces—do not park on nature strips
NEVER double-park to pick up children!
NEVER call children across the road to your car. Ensure they always use a crossing or are escorted by an
adult.
Student accident insurance and ambulance cover:
Parents are reminded that the Department of Education does not provide personal accident insurance or ambulance cover for students. Parents and guardians of students who do not have student accident insurance or ambulance cover, are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including the cost of ambulance attendance or transport as well as any other transport costs. It is the responsibility of parents or guardians to look into their preferred options in regard to accident insurance and ambulance cover. It is highly recommended that families consider ambulance cover, in particular. In the event of a serious accident or illness, we will call an ambulance, regardless of whether you have ambulance membership or not. The costs for ambulance transport can be very high. I suggest all parents investigate Ambulance Victoria membership
PRINCIPAL’S NEWS cont:

very business in our front office and this helps to
minimise congestion.

Community Links Our Community Links Group is made up of parents who volunteer their time to assist with
fundraising for our school. Some of the activities organised via our Group include Mothers and
Fathers Day Stalls, Bunnings BBQ, School Fun Run and Special Lunches.
If you are interested in joining ‘Community Links’ come along to a free information Morning Tea
on Thursday 27th February @ 9am in the staff room.
If you are going to attend the morning tea can you please let us
know. You can do this by returning the form that is being sent
home with all students today.
At Cranbourne Primary School learning starts at 9am every day.
Missing even one day of school can make children fall behind in class. Even if it is the day before or after a school
break, students are learning new things every day that will help them stay on track. It is important to also be on
time each day so students don’t miss important parts of class.
