Heat Meters
Designed for accuracy in all applications:
combimeter ® II
Functional descriptionThe new combimeter ®II is a heatmeter which, with its advanced electronic metering technology, is desi-gned for the accurate metering of eventhe largest of heat loads.
Its flow metering unit is based on theelectromagnetic measuring principle, which works without moving parts, and is therefore particularly reliableand durable.
The electronic processor unit controlsthe entire meter, from the power sup-ply through the metering circuits andcalculations down to the informationdisplays.
The combimeter ®II provides the basisfor a wide range of consumption ana-lyses.
Performance featuresAll functions of the combimeter ®II arecontrolled electronically. The metercan be individually programmed usingWindows-based software programswith an easy-to-operate user interface. It can therefore be tailored to suit theneeds of the specific user or applica-tion.
An M-bus interface is integrated as astandard feature.
The flow metering unit is available in11 different sizes for flow ranges between 0.015 m3/h and 180 m3/h.
InterfacesIn addition to an integrated display, data can be read out in the followingways: (optional modules)• via an optical interface to the ZVEI
standard or• via the integrated M-bus interface to
the EN 1434 standard.
ApplicationThe combimeter ®II is a heat meter tai-lor-made to suit the special needs ofdistrict and communal heating.
Benefits• High accuracy over a long period
thanks to the combination of the magnetically inductive measuring principles and advanced electronics
• Wide field of applications thanks to the large number of hardware and software modules available
• Very wide metering range and low pressure drop
• High data security even in the event of a power failure
• Data tailored to the customer's needs thanks to individual program-ming options
• User-friendly installation and operation• S y s t e m a n a l y s e s t h r o u g h
max./min. memory• Individual billing using tariff con-
figurable counters.
The combimeter ®II is the static heatmeter, specially designed for districtheating.
Heat and Volume Meters
Intelligent processor unitThe processor unit contains high-techcircuits for coil excitation in the flowmetering unit, for measuring flowrates and temperature, for integration, calculation, logging and data display.
The combimeter ®II processor unithas been specially designed for ease ofuse. The new and attractive designwith its low overall height ensureseasy installation of the meter. Themeter can be conveniently read from aback lit two-line LCD. Two buttonspermit user-friendly control of thevarious display loops. All measure-ment inputs can be either screw ter-minal or plug-in connections.
The processor unit is connected to thepower supply. Reliable meter readingis ensured even if the voltage drops, asall information is stored in a non-vola-tile memory (EPROM), preventing anyloss of data.
Accurate flow metering unitThe flow metering unit is based on themagnetic induction measuring princi-ple. Its measuring cross section is rect-angular, with electrodes over the enti-re height. This gives it a large mete-ring range and makes it independentof the flow profile.
The unit is designed so that it corres-ponds to the maximum flow rate ofthe system and is available for instal-lation either in the flow or returnlines. The unit can be installedwithout straight lengths of pipe at theinlet or outlet and high metering accu-racy is ensured.
The flow metering unit satisfies therequirements of EN 1434 and its meas-uring characteristics are even betterthan those of the previous model.
A long-life battery ensures operationof the real-time clock in the event of apower failure and, at the same time, records how long power is off.

High performance from all components
combimeter ® II
Temperature sensorscombimeter ®II temperature sensorsare supplied with protection pocketsand cables for connection to the processor unit.
The combimeter ®II consists of• the flow metering unit• the processor unit• the temperature sensors
A wide range of meter sizes
The combimeter ®II is available in 11different sizes, i.e. with 11 differentflow metering units covering flow ran-ges from 0.015 m3/h to 180 m3/h.
The flow metering units are sized asillustrated, Qs representing the maxi-mum admissible continuous flow. Allmeters can record Qp + 50%.

Accessories for tailored solutionsExpansion modules
combimeter ® II has two plug-in locations for expansion modules toconnect external equipment.
Analog moduleThe analog module has two electrical-ly isolated 4-20 mA outputs as a stan-dard feature. These two outputs canbe programmed separately, for exam-ple, for flow rate, heat load, flow tem-perature, return temperature or tempe-rature difference.
Digital I/O moduleThe digital I/O module has two con-tact inputs with a common earth con-nection as well as two electrically iso-lated passive outputs.
RS-232 moduleThe communication module RS-232 isa serial interface for communicationswith external equipment, e.g. a PC.
M-bus interfaceThe M-bus interface is integrated asstandard.
Software
combitest ® IIThe combitest ® II software is an M-bus-based tool for reading out themeter configuration. It runs underWindows 95 and is used for• reading out the meter data (apart
from the data log)• archiving and printing out• implementing customer-specified
changes
combiset ® IIcombiset ® II is the central service software tool for the user. It is a menu-driven, easy-to-use Windows 95 programme for setting a customisedapplication, e.g. configuration of heatand volume meters, tariff setting anduser displays.
combilog ® IIcombilog ® II reads out the data logs ofthe heat meter, archives them, pres-ents the meter readings and prints dia-grams and tables. combilog ®‚ II is alsobased on M-bus and runs underWindows 95.
combimeter ® II
Data logging functionsTwo logging modules are active in thecombimeter ®II:
• Data log for consumption values• Change log for faults and operator
changes
The values from both logs can be readusing a PC.
The data logis divided into two sections:
• The short-time log contains averagevalues for the following:- Flow rate- Heat output*- Flow temperature*- Return temperature*All these values are time-stamped.
• The long-run log contains the following counter values:
- Energy consumption*- Volume of water- Hours run- Forward energy*- Tariff counters (energy* and volume)
These values are time-stamped withthe date, year and weekday.
* only applies to the heat meter.
The short-run log is normally used fortroubleshooting and optimisation. Thelong-run log is normally used for con-sumption analyses; the values can beused for calculations, e.g. averagereturn temperature.
The change logThe last 30 faults or changes (e.g.clock adjustments) are continuouslyrecorded and time-stamped. Thus following types of failure can be iden-tified:
- Power failure- Temperature sensors- Internal communications- Check sum- Clock adjustment
Logging frequency Data recorded Logging period

This table shows the logging frequencies and the logging periods.
The button with the arrow pointingdownwards is used:
- to change to the next window in the active loop.
- to change to the next loop- to change to the service loop.
The button with the arrow pointing tothe right is used:
- to change to the windows behind each other
- to configure within the service loop- to change to the next loop- to change to the service loop.
combimeter ® II
User-friendly control of the displayThe display of the combimeter ®II hasthree user loops and a service loop.
Each user loop may contain up to 24individual windows.
Standard settings of the loops
loop 1 loop 2 loop 3 Service loop
The first loop is the main loop andcontains the current data for flow, energy and time/date as a standardfeature. The second and third loopscan be used as desired for all otherfunctions, e.g. min. max. tariffs etc.All three user loops can be individual-ly programmed with the combiset ® IIsoftware.
Information on certain functions isspread over two windows. In this casethe display automatically alternatesevery four seconds between these twowindows.
Furthermore, there are windows thatare "behind each other". This is thecase when windows have the samefunction but display different values,e.g. 13 max. or min. storage intervals. These windows can then be activatedconsecutively with the control but-tons.
6 minutes after operation of the but-tons the meter automatically returnsto the main window.
The fourth loop is a "service loop".This loop contains windows that areavailable to the service technician forinformation or configuration purpos-es. The windows in this loop cannotbe changed.
Simple controlThe displays are accessed with twocontrol buttons on the front panel ofthe meter, one with an arrow pointingto the right, the other with an arrowpointing downwards.
