                                                                                                 BLUE JACKETS NOTES

WE MEET AGAIN

The Blue Jackets and Tampa Bay Lightning meet for the first time since the Lightning earned a 4-1 series victory in the 2020 Stanley Cup Eastern

Conference Quarterfinals. There, the Lightning earned a 5-4 overtime victory in Game 5 to advance to the next round on their way to winning their

second Stanley Cup in franchise history. It marked the second-straight year that the teams faced off in the postseason after Columbus became the first

team in NHL history to sweep the Presidents' Trophy winners in a first round series in 2019.

BACK HOME TO NWA

After opening the season with a four-game road trip, Columbus returns home for a four-game homestand from Jan. 21-28. The club, in fact, will play

eight of the next 10 contests at Nationwide Arena from Jan. 21-Feb. 8 with two-game home series against Tampa Bay, Florida, Dallas and Carolina over

that stretch. CBJ went 20-12-4 (44 pts./.611 pct. pct) at Nationwide Arena in 2019-20, including 12-4-3 over its final 19 home games between Dec. 16-

Mar. 1.

ATLANTIC FOES IN THE CENTRAL

Columbus earned points in both games of a back-to-back set at Detroit on Monday (3-2 W) and Tuesday (3-2 OTL). Dating back to last season, the Blue

Jackets have picked up points in 14-straight games (9-0-5) against teams that typically reside in the Atlantic Division (Boston, Buffalo, Detroit, Florida,

Montreal, Ottawa, Tampa Bay and Toronto). The club plays Tampa Bay and Florida during its upcoming four-game homestand.

CLIMBING BACK FROM 1-0 DEFICITS

In each of the Blue Jackets’ four games this season, the winning team has allowed the first goal of the game before coming back to win. In the series

against Nashville, Boone Jenner and Nick Foligno got the Jackets on the board first before the club fell 3-1 and 5-2. On Monday, Bobby Ryan struck first

for the Red Wings before Oliver Bjorkstrand started Columbus’ comeback with a second period tally. On Tuesday, Jenner scored first for the Jackets

before the club fell 3-2 in OT.

BACK IN THE CENTRAL

The club will return to its roots for the 2020-21 campaign. With the NHL’s realignment due to COVID-19, Columbus will play in the Central Division and

reunite with former division rivals in Chicago, Detroit and Nashville. The four teams were all part of the division from 2000-13. Columbus will also see a

familiar face in Metropolitan Division rival Carolina while also facing off against Dallas, Florida and Tampa Bay. Every game will be a divisional affair in

2020-21.

CONTINUING WINNING WAYS

Columbus has gone 318-231-61 since 2012, ranking 11th in the NHL in wins over the past seven seasons (Nashville) entering 2020-21. The club has

seven winning seasons in its past eight compared to one in the first 11 seasons. Only seven teams have more wins since 2016 than the Blue Jackets’

175 entering the 2020-21 campaign: Tampa Bay (201), Washington (193), Boston (187), Pittsburgh (181), St. Louis (177), Winnipeg (176) and Nashville

(176).

SHARP SHOOTIN’ TEX

Alexandre Texier has picked up a team-leading four points over a current three-game point streak. The second-year forward, who collected 6-7-13 in 36

appearances in 2019-20, has tied his career-best point streak originally set from Dec. 14-17, 2019 (2-2-4). The native of France has also set a career

best with goals in each of the past three outings. His goal total ranks fifth-T in the NHL in 2020-21.

DEL ZOTTO’S ADDITION

After originally joining the club on a pro tryout contract, veteran defenseman Michael Del Zotto signed a one-year contract with the Blue Jackets on Jan.

10. The 30-year-old blueliner has made a quick impression, leading the team in assists and ranking tied for second in points with 0-3-3. His three

assists, in fact, currently rank eighth-T among NHL blueliners. The Ontario native recorded career highs with 10-31-41 in 77 appearances with the NY

Rangers in 2011-12. He collected 2-13-15 in 49 games with Anaheim in 2019-20.

GOALIES ON DUTY

Goaltenders Joonas Korpisalo and Elvis Merzlikins split goaltending duties in 2019-20 and helped the club rank third-T in the NHL with a team 2.61

goals-against average. Korpisalo (19-12-5, 2.60 GAA, .911 SV% and two shutouts in 37 GP) was selected to play in his first NHL All-Star Game (missed

due to injury) and allowed two goals or fewer in 20 of his outings. Merzlikins (13-9-8, 2.35 GAA, .923 SV% and five SO in 33 GP) was named to the

NHL’s All-Rookie Team after finishing second-T in the League in shutouts and fifth in GAA and SV%.

THIS DATE IN FRANCHISE HISTORY

games on this date.
