Endorsed by Cambridge International Examinations

The Teacher's Guide has not been through the Cambridge

endorsement processI have to say that I'm incredibly impressed with the Collins Cambridge

IGCSE® ICT textbook. I've been looking for something that isn't too verboseor too sparse and this certainly fits the bill perfectly! I am also very

impressed with how the Theory and Practical work are linked together. I also feel that the students will benefit greatly from the videos.

SESSION 4.10Using website authoring software (2)

BackgroundYou are now going to apply what you have learned and build on it by using tables to organise the layout of the webpage. You will also learn how to insert an image and then insert a hyperlink. You may already know that tables are a good way of organising and laying out text in documents using word processing software. They are also good for webpages. Tables keep things looking well organised when viewed on a browser.

Using tables to organise webpagesJunaid needs to add four extra pages to the website in addition to Page 1a. He wants to keep it simple, with details of the computers, printers, monitors and other supplies that he stocks. He has asked you to put together these pages. He has sketched an idea of what he wants:

So let’s make a start with page 2. You need to open a new page: File > New > New document. Use the browse button to find the right location.

1 At this point you give the page a name: Page2.html

2 You have the option to give it a title: Computers

3 Select Create to open the new page.

Each page has:

● a title

● a table with three columns and three rows

● three images

● three sets of details

● a price for each item.

PRACTICAL

Session 4.10 Using website authoring software (2)

Begin by typing the heading for Page 2. You can see from Junaid’s sketch that it should be Computers.

Now you can insert a table. You can either choose from the Insertdrop-down menu, or select the table icon from the right-hand menuon the Amaya screen.

1 You can see the heading here. 2 Select table from the right-hand menu.

Inserting an image in a webpageWith the table created, it is time to insert an image. Choose Insert > Image from the drop-down menu. That will give you the option to enter details for the image.

Browse the course CD (Source files, Unit 4) and choose the image Laptop.jpg.

Make sure you browse to find the location of your image.

It is important to put in the alternate text.

Once you’ve done this, the image will be inserted into the table.

Create Page2.html as shown with a 3 column, 4 row table, and insert a laptop image.

Activity 1

Inserting alternate text for an image is really important for businesses. It allows everyone to see, hear or read about the image.

Real world

3 You need to change from the default to 3 Columns and 4 Rows.

Images for using in your web design work throughout these practical sessions are available on the course CD, but before using them, copy them to your local document folder. This means they will always appear in your website, even after the CD is removed.
