What is College Credit Plus?

● College Credit Plus is Ohio’s dual credit program– Students earn high school and college

credit at the same time– Students enroll in college courses and

adhere to the requirements of the college– Marlington is responsible for tuition and

textbook costs

What is College Credit Plus?

• Students in Grades 7 through 12:– Must complete an assessment exam and be

determined “eligible” for College Credit Plus– May choose from a variety of college-level

courses (as determined by placement testing)– Courses must be college-level or

non-remedial and nonreligious

What is College Credit Plus?

• Students in Grades 7 through 12:– Can earn credit to satisfy both high school

and college requirements➢ 3+ Credit Hours = 1 High School Unit

– Must successfully complete the courses in order to earn the credit

– May take courses at the high school, college campus, or online

CCP Yearly Credit Limits● Students can take up to 30 credits within each school

year (Summer, Fall, Spring) at potentially no cost to the student/family.

● Marlington will cover tuition & book costs for up to 30 credits each year, as long as the student passes the course(s).

● High school credits count into the 30 credit total.(HS Credits x 3) + College Credits = Total Credits

● If a student exceeds the 30 credit limit within a school year, the student/family will be responsible for the course/courses that put them over the 30 credit limit.

One more point to consider….Credit Transfer

● https://www.transfercredit.ohio.gov (CCP and AP)● https://www.transferology.com● You will need to create a free account● Students can enter in which course they are taking and

see how many schools in the Transferology network have matching courses that may award transfer credit

Be intentional with what your student takes - great idea to check out possible majors, courses required - there is a limit on financial aid!

CCP Rules and Regulations Proposed House Bill 49

● “First 15” Rule – Level I Courses– Transferable course (CTAG, OTM, or TAG)– Course in computer science, IT, anatomy,

physiology, or foreign language– Technical certificate course– College/University must list Level I courses

on their website

CCP Rules and Regulations Proposed House Bill 49

● Underperforming Students– CCP Probation➢ College cumulative GPA falls below 2.0➢ Withdraw from two or more courses in the same

term➢ May enroll in no more than one course

– CCP Dismissal➢ CCP Probation for two consecutive terms➢ Student may not enroll for at least one term

Summary of Changes at MHS

● Students want to participate in CCP but face obstacles– Travel– Extracurricular activities– Support with educational goals

● Marlington is responding with expanded course offerings on our campus– Opportunity to earn Associate of Science degree at MHS– Courses will be offered through Stark State, Kent State

and Univ. of Mount Union– Credits earned can lead to many different programs and

majors based on transferability

Summary of Changes at MHS● ODHE reports success of CCP program● Some legislators are looking into the amount of time and

money saved by CCP students– New rules in HB 49 (Level I courses, underperforming

students)● School district is responsible for verifying:

– Students do not exceed 30 credits per year– Graduation requirements are met– Accuracy of tuition and textbooks costs

● Marlington implementing course authorization form, textbook purchasing policy, interactive student tracking system

Is CCP Right for YOU?● Financial Obligations

– If a student fails a course or does not complete a course, the student may be responsible for the ENTIRE cost associated with the course. This happens every year- please consider the maturity level of your child!

● Athletic Eligibility– Enrolled in 5 COURSES the 9 weeks before your sport begins.

– STUDENTS are responsible for ensuring their athletic eligibility.

● Honors System Impact / GPA

Is CCP Right for YOU?Is your student…● An independent learner?● Self-motivated?● Able to take OWNERSHIP and be

RESPONSIBLE in the process?● Organized? (They will need to keep track of

passwords, emails, logins, and due dates)● Mature? (College classes = college concepts.

NOTHING is modified just because there are HS students in the course.)

Is CCP Right for YOU?Is your student…● Able to navigate this process with minimal assistance

from parents?● Prepared to begin their college transcript?● Trustworthy enough to show you their grades? (You

can’t monitor them online!)● Mature enough to approach a professor ON THEIR

OWN if there is an issue? (The instructors typically do not communicate with parents!)

IF THE ANSWER IS ‘NO’ TO ANY OF THESE, YOUR STUDENT IS NOT READY!

Now for some numbers…

● Formula for awarding high school credit:

3 or more college credit hours = 1 high school credit

2 college credit hours = .6 high school credits

1 college credit hours = .3 high school credits

Next Steps - College Credit Plus ● CCP Courses offered:

– At the high school (on campus)– At the college campus (off campus)– Online courses

CCP on MHS Campus

● Students take classes at MHS during the typical school day

● Partnership with Kent State Stark, Stark State College and Univ. of Mount Union
