The event was an opportunity to exchange congratulations on the occasion of Eid Al- Adha and the renewal of communication between the faculty staff. Presentation of External Training Experience for Engineering Students Under the sponsorship of his Excellency the University Rector Prof. Badran bin Abdulrahman AlOmar, the College of Engineering organized on 2-2-1436 H in the Dir'iya Hall, a meeting to present its experience on the external training program for its students. The meeting was attended by His Excellency the rector and the vice rector for educational and academic affairs Prof. Dr. Abdullah Salman, the assistant of the vice rector for training, Dr. Adel Al- Shayea, Dr. Mohsen Baddah the College vice Dean and the supervisor of external training, as well as representatives of the companies and the contributors to the training program, the heads of College departments, the faculty and a large number of students. The meeting was opened with an introduction by Dr. Waleed Zahid, The Collge vice dean for development and quality followed by a presentation by the College dean, Prof. Dr. Khalid Ahumaizi about the College experience in the external training program. This was followed by a speech by Dr. Adel Al-Shayea which explained the nature of external training program of the university and its achievements. After that, His Excellency the rector distributed trophies to companies and agencies which have contributed to the training of engineering students over the years. The meeting also included speeches by representatives of those companies and then the floor was subsequently opened for discussion by students . It is worth mentioning that the number of 1

overseas trainees for the academic year 1434-1435 was 51 students, the largest number since the start of the external training two years ago: 23 students in France and Germany with the French companies AREVA and EDF which are working in the field of energy, 7 students in Germany with different companies in coordination with the German Society of Engineers and the Saudi Council of Engineers, 4 students in America and Canada with the Canadian BPMBARDIER company, which operates in the field of transport, 4 students in SYDNEY University, Australia, in the field of energy and robotics, 9 students in Italy with the company ITEFERR specialized in the field of transport - trains, two students at the American University at NORTH CAROLINA, and two students in US with the French company AIRLIQUIDE specialized in the production of gases. The College Renewed the ISO: 9001 Certificate In a ceremony hosted by the University Deanship of Quality on Tuesday 3-2-1436 H (25-11-2014G) and in the presence of the Vice rector for Development and Quality, the College vice dean for development and quality, Dr. Waleed Zahid, received the ISO quality system ISO: 9001: 2008, after the college has been approved for the renewal of the certificate obtained in 2009.

The ISO 9001: 2008 is an international public certificate for quality management, and includes criteria that describe the quality of the performance of the organization's operations. It should be noted that any institution granted the ISO 9001 is subject to periodic monitoring by the donors in order to ensure continuity of adherence to criteria and to ensure continuous development and improvement processes within the organization. Quality Management of the University and its Application in the College The College vice deanship for development and quality organized, on Wednesday Muharram 19th, 1436 (November 12, 2014), a meeting with the University Deanship of Quality to discuss the quality management system of King Saud University (QMS-KSU), and the requirements of its application in the College. The meeting was attended by the College dean Prof. Khalid Ahumaizi, and the University Dean of Quality Dr. Abdul Hakim Al-Babtain as well as by the College Vice dean for development and quality Dr. Waleed Zahid, the College head of the quality unit Dr.. Mohammed Abdel Fattah Sharaf, the head

of the University Quality Management System Dr. Ahmed Akkawi, and the adviser to university Deanship for Quality Dr. Tai Chouwon as well as department heads and members of quality and accreditation units in various departments.

Ceremony for Practical Training Organized by AREVA and EDF Companies As part of the educational outreach of the French companies (AREVA and EDF), which aim to contribute to the development of human capacity in the field of nuclear energy in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (under the leadership of King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy Program (KACARE)), the two companies organized a ceremony in honor of the first batch of students who have completed their training during the period from June to August 2014 in France and Germany. The meeting was attended by His Excellency the French Ambassador, and deans of the Colleges participating in the program as well as the College vice dean for development & quality Dr. W. Zahid, and the supervisor of external training Dr. Mohsen Albaddah (the College vice dean). The first batch included about 40 students from the colleges of

engineering of King Saud University, the University of Al-Faisal and King Fahd University for Petroleum and Minerals. The number of students from the College of Engineering at KSU was 20 students from various departments of the College. The ceremony included a presentation by some of the students about their experiences, and the distribution of certificates. The College dean Prof. Khalid Ahumaizi praised the cooperation of the two companies. It is expected that the two companies will train about 24 of the College students in the summer of 1435-1436.

Lecture on the University Quality Management System (QMS-KSU)

The College vice deanship for development and quality in cooperation with the University deanship of quality, organized on Wednesday 25 of Safar 1436, a lecture entitled: “Unlocking and Understanding the KSU-QMS”.

The lecture aims at clarifying the concept of the QMS and its requirements and implementation stages. The meeting was attended by the College dean, the vice deans, the heads of the College departments and members of the accreditation units.

Meeting on National Accreditation The College vice deanship for development and quality in collaboration with the National Commission for Assessment and Academic Accreditation (NCAAA) organized on Monday, 16 of Safar 1436 (December 8, 2014), a meeting with Dr. G. Maffet the adviser of NCAAA to follow up on the necessary arrangements for the visit of NCAAA auditors to assess the Bachelor programs of the industrial engineering, electrical engineering, surveying engineering and petroleum & natural gas engineering. The visit is to take place on the end of the second semester of 2015. The meeting was attended by the College vice dean for development and quality, the heads of departments, the head of College quality assurance units and the members of the accreditation units.

During the meeting Dr. Maffet reviewed the preparations required for the auditors visit and answered questions about the criteria required for the accreditation process.

The Role of the College in the Preparation of its Graduates for Job Market

On the occasion of Career Week for the university graduates, organized during the period 25-29/12/1435, the College dean Prof. Khalid Alhumaizi presented a lecture on “The Role of the College in Preparing its Graduates for Job Market” The lecture outlined the diverse programs and activities undertaken by the College in support for its graduates.

Among these activities is the continuous development of academic programs to meet the international and national academic accreditation requirements, and to include skills and knowledge required by the job market.

Another important activity concerns the practical training of students. The College deals now with about 300 organizations that train the students. The College also initiated the outside training program through which 51 students have been trained outside the kingdom during the summer of 1434-1435, in French, Germany, Canada and USA. Also, the College through its alumni and employment unit provides a link with its graduates and helps their employment.

The College Industrial Advisory Council and the departmental Advisory councils play an important role in the continuous improvement of programs and serve as links with professional societies and other public units.

The College is also offering a diploma in professional safety as well as programs of sustainable energy and MSc. in desalination.

There is also a competition between graduation projects at the levels of the College, national and Gulf region.

The college has being introducing changes to its courses and improving its teaching. In the last year, four general engineering courses (computer programming, statics, engineering management and engineering design) were subjected to changes in the way they are taught.

A new course (Railways Engineering) was added to the civil engineering program in response to job market requirement. The college also distributes and analyzes yearly questionnaires addressed to employers and graduates.

Honoring Outstanding Graduation Projects for the First Semester 1435/1436 under the Auspices of the BAE Systems -SA In coordination with the College Alumni & Employment unit, and the College quality unit, the Vice deanship of quality and development organized on Monday 21 Rabi-I, 1436 an exhibition and a meeting to honor the best graduation projects for the first semester of 1435/1436 H.

The event was hosted by Prof. Abdullah Al-Salman the vice rector for educational and academic affairs and the general director of strategy and planning at Saudi BAE Systems, Dr. Abdullatef Mohamed Al-AlSheik, and the College dean Prof. Khalid Ibrahim Alhumaizi.

During the event, certifications and prizes were presented to 33 students from various departments. In addition, 22 certificates of excellence were presented to joint program projects, and for the first time a joint project was carried out between the College of Engineering and the College of Architecture and Planning. The supervising professors of these projects were also honored.

The event also included signing of contracts with the students receiving scholarships from the Company.
