pharmacy, drug store, registration, IT, MRD, PR services, MS office, NS office and allied offices, lecture hall, day care centre for children, diabetes clinic, cafeteria, speciality clinics, health check-up units etc. SNIMS campus provides separate hostels for boys and girls with bath attached rooms in addition to in-house accommodation for faculty members. It also has well-toned playground and well equipped GYMs to keep students physically fit.

College & Hospital

We started MBBS classes in the year 2009 with batch strength of 100 students and our first batch appeared for the final examination in 2014. Of these, students allotted by the Government are admitted in 50 seats and the remaining 50 are filled by students who pass the entrance examination conducted by the management with the approval of the Government. We are blessed that we have experienced faculty from all over India, who have excelled in teaching and research in their disciplines.

We aim for the growth of the student in the academic front as well as total human being. The results of the examinations speak for the dedication of the teachers and the hard work

of the students. Sports and literary activities are promoted to contribute in our effort to mould good individuals who can contribute in their own ways to the development of the society.

CAMPUS

SNIMS Campus is situated in about 46 acres of land in a Rural area. The medical college is housed in a unitary campus attached to teaching hospital having room for future expansion. Separate hostel facilities for boys and girls are provided where spacious rooms are available, along with common rooms, computer rooms, gymnasium and facilities for indoor games adding to the attraction. Canteen facilities are excellent where good quality food is served. Health Insurance is mandatory for all students. The Principal and team with wardens ensure supervision and security.

CENTRAL LIBRARY

Central Library is provided in the Level 1 of Academic Block. SNIMS Library is following the DEWEY DECIMAL CLASSIFICATION system 22 Ed. for Library classification and AACR-2 for cataloguing. Air conditioned Central Library, with more than 200 seating capacity for users, has a sound collection of resources including textbooks, national and international journals, CD/DVDs, Bound Journals, etc.. AUDITORIUM AND EXAMINATION HALL

Auditorium/Examination Hall (Multi-purpose) is provided in the level 2 of Academic Block as per the MCI requirements.

CENTRAL PHOTOGRAPHIC CUM AUDIOVISUAL UNIT

Central photographic and audiovisual sections with accommodation for studio, dark room, enlarging and Photostat work is provided in the ground level of Academic Block. Accommodation is provided for Artist and Medical Illustrators and Modellers.

CENTRAL RESEARCH LABORATORY Well equipped Central Research Laboratory is provided in the Medical College which is under the control of the Principal of the college.

LECTURE THEATRE

5 Air conditioned , gallery type Lecture Theatres are available in this institution out of which 4 have seating capacity for 120 students each. Another one is in the Hospital side of capacity for 150 students. The audio-visual aids including Overhead Projector, Slide Projector, LCD Projector and microphone are also provided. All the departments share these Lecture Halls in a scheduled manner. E-Class facility is also available.

PLAYGROUND AND GYMNASIUM The management takes good care of the same and let their students live a healthy and fit life. A healthy lifestyle also helps the students to concentrate more on the studies and keeps them active throughout the day. A well equipped gymnasium and sports ground are provided for students within the college campus. The Institution has top sports facilities including Basket Ball Court, Foot Ball Court & Badminton Court. A qualified physical instructor give guidance, support and supervision to all these activities.

HOSPITAL WASTE MANAGEMENT Biomedical waste is handled by IMAGE (Indian Medical Association Goes Eco-friendly). The Central Incineration Plant is available as per statute.

MEDICAL EDUCATION TECHNOLOGY UNIT The Medical Education Unit (MEU) of SNIMS helps the faculty to polish their skills in the art of teaching. The focus is not only on teaching, but also on developing the complex roles of being mentors, assessors, curriculum designers, facilitators and role models. The unit is equipped with teaching and training materials on various subjects of Medical Education Technology. Many faculty members have been trained in the Medical Education Unit.

COMMUNICATION SYSTEM & IT SUPPORT The College and Hospital are Interlinked with telephone & Intercom System. Unlimited Internet Facility 24x7, of 2 MBPS speed with a BSNL leased line & highly secured servers are provided. A well developed Hospital Information System (HIS) is available. The IT Department is responsible for regular updating of the website of the institution. We have one more special connection to examination room.

CANTEEN & CAFETERIA

Cafeteria is situated inside the hospital. The food and snacks served in the cafeteria are freshly made. The canteen is adequately staffed with cooks, maintenance and administrative personnel and caters to all patients, patient’s relatives, doctors, interns and residents. Both veg and non-veg good quality food is available in a hygienic environment at reasonable price and served to the students as well as faculty and staff. Separate seating arrangements for doctors and staff are provided.

ELECTRICITY The energy supply of 400 KVA for the institution is obtained through Kerala State Electricity Board. To ensure un-interrupted power supply the Campus is provided with generator backup 1125 KVA (one 500 KVA, two 250 KVA & one 125 KVA) in College as well as in hospital. All electrical arrangements are controlled and maintained by electrical department of institute headed by the Electrical Engineer. Electricians are available round the clock.

SANITATION & WATER SUPPLY Safe drinking water, basic sanitation & hygiene is one of our prime concerns. Adequate sanitary facilities and safe drinking water facilities are provided for the staff & students in all sections, as required. For the maintenance work, the plumbers are always available round the clock.

WATER FILTER PLANT

This ensures good quality potable water supply to college, hospital, hostel etc.

SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT Well managed STP to treat the sewage and to make sure that the effluent water is bacteria free.

CENTRAL WORKSHOP

There is a central workshop having facilities for repair of mechanical, electrical and A/c and refrigeration equipments of college and the hospital. It is managed by qualified personnel.

NON CLINICAL DEPARTMENTS ANATOMY

i. Demonstration Room – Two demonstration rooms fitted with strip chairs, Over Head Projector, Slide Projector, Television, Video and other audiovisual aids, so as to accommodate at least 60 students.

ii. Dissection Hall – to accommodate at least 100 students. It is well-ventilated with exhaust fans. Extra Learning aids are also provided. In addition, an embalming room space for 3 storage tanks and cold storage room with space for 10-12 dead bodies are provided.

iii. Histology Laboratory with accommodation for work benches fitted with water taps, sinks, cupboards for microscope storage and electric points for 60 students. There is also a preparation room for technicians and storage of equipment.

iv. Research - There is a research laboratory for research purposes. v. Museum-There is a museum with all facilities. vi. Departmental Library-cum-seminar room with 113 books is provided.

PHYSIOLOGY

i. Demonstration Room fitted with strip chairs, Over head Projector, Slide Projector, Television, Video and other audiovisual aids, so as to accommodate at least 50-60 students.

ii. Practical rooms- 3 laboratories with adequate accommodation is provided to accommodate 60 students. Amphibian laboratory (one)- Provided with working tables and one preparation room. Mammalian laboratory (one)- Provided with four tables and one preparation room. Human Laboratories: a) Haematology Lab : Provided with working tables and one preparation room. b) Clinical Physiology Laboratory provided with 8 tables with mattresses and adjustable hand-end.

iii. Departmental Library-cum-seminar room with at least 80-100 books. iv. Research laboratory for research purposes.

BIOCHEMISTRY

i. Demonstration Room fitted with strip chairs, Over head Projector, Slide Projector, Television, Video and other audiovisual aids, so as to accommodate at least 50-60 students.

ii. Practical class room- There is a laboratory with all facilities also be provided. iii. Departmental library-cum-seminar room with at least 80-100 books. iv. Research laboratory for research purposes.

PATHOLOGY

i. Demonstration room fitted with Over Head Projector, Slide projector, Television Video and other audiovisual aids, to accommodate at least 50-60 students.

ii. Practical Laboratories for Morbid Anatomy and Histopathology/Cytopathology and for clinical Pathology/Haematology with preparation room is provided.

iii. Separate service laboratory for Histopatholgy, Cytopathology, Haematology. A balance room, store room and special room for high speed centrifuge and a wash room with continuous water supply.

iv. Museum- for specimens, charts, models with a seating capacity of at least 25 students.

v. Autopsy Block - Autopsy room with all facilities is provided. vi. Departmental library-cum-seminar room with at least 80- 100 books. vii. Research laboratory for research purposes.

BLOOD BANK Blood Bank is situated on the ground floor of the hospital. The Blood Bank caters to the need of all the patients of the hospital. Apart from whole blood, component separation is also available. Various components like Packed Cells, Fresh Frozen plasma, Cryoprecipitate, Platelets and single donor platelets are available on request.

SNIMS has an air conditioned Blood Bank and it includes:

suitable furniture and facilities.

antibodies etc

MICROBIOLOGY

i. Demonstration room- to accommodate at least 50-60 students is provided. ii. Practical laboratory with a preparation room is provided

iii. Separate service laboratory each for Bacteriology including anaerobic; Serology; Virology; Parasitology; Mycology; Tuberculosis and Immunology are provided.

iv. Museum- for specimens, charts, models, with a seating capacity of at least 25 students provided.

v. Departmental Library-cum-seminar room with at least 80-100 books is provided. vi. Research laboratory for research purposes.

PHARMACOLOGY

i. Demonstration room- to accommodate at least 50-60 students. ii. Practical laboratories- with accommodation for 50-60 students.

ANIMAL HOLDING AREA The Animal House is a resource centre for students and faculty of various medical disciplines. SNIMS has a well established Animal House, registered as 1274/ac/09/CPCSEA. The Animal House possesses complete facilities for breeding and maintenance of laboratory animals under standard husbandry condition. Animals are housed and used for breeding and experiments for medical research as per rules & regulation of CPCSEA. SNIMS also has Animal House Committee and Animal Ethics Committee for regular monitoring of Animal House besides Veterinary Officer who is in charge of Animal House. Veterinary clinical services & care are given to all animals housed at the department.

FORENSIC MEDICINE

i. Demonstration room to accommodate at least 50-60 students. ii. Museum is provided.

iii. A laboratory for examination of specimens, tests and Forensic histopathology, Serology, anthropology and toxicology.

iv. Autopsy Block –Autopsy room with facilities for cold storage, for cadavers, ante-rooms, washing facilities, with an accommodation capacity of 20-25 students.

v. Department Library-cum-seminar room with at least 80-100 books. vi. Research laboratory for research purposes.

COMMUNITY MEDICINE

i. Demonstration room to accommodate at least 50-60 students. ii. A laboratory with facilities for purpose of demonstration of various laboratory

practicals is provided. iii. Museum for the display of models, charts, specimens and other material concerning

communicable diseases etc is provided. iv. Departmental Library-cum-seminar room with at least 80-100 books. v. Research laboratory for research purposes.

Primary Health Centre/Rural Health Training Centre

SNIMS has five health centres for training of students in community oriented family based health care.

RHTC Munambam: Separate residential arrangements for boys and girls, interns and faculty with mess facilities are available in RHTC Munambam which is under the full administrative jurisdiction of the medical college. Adequate transport is provided for carrying out field work, teaching and training activities by the department of Community Medicine and other departments (both for staff and students).

URBAN TRAINING HEALTH CENTRE

The Urban Health Training Centre at Parur with full facilities as per statute to train students & interns is under the administrative control of Department of Community Medicine. Dedicated vehicular support is provided.

Hospital

SNIMS is a Medical College Hospital in the coastal belt of Ernakulam District, which provides comprehensive medical services and is aiming to establish itself as a centre of excellence. The hospital is located on the roadside and is a teritiary care centre for the population between Ernakulam and Thrissur especially patients from Parur, Aluva, Mala & Kodungalloor & nearby areas. The hospital is a well equipped one with competent doctors in various departments and provides high quality medical care. The hospital has been privileged to have the services of eminent consultants in various disciplines. We are committed to offer the most advanced diagnosis and treatment in Medicine, Surgery, Orthopedics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Paediatrics, Dental, Psychiatry and other super-specialty departments like Cardiology, Neurosurgery, Gastroenterology, Urology and Paediatric surgery. We have fully equipped ICU services, Operation Theatres and Labour Room. Our medical and nursing staff is selected after close scrutiny and find a mix of seniors with ambitious juniors who undergo training sessions and workshops in addition to routine CMEs. Our faculty and staff extend dedicated care and they undergo regular training to improve their skills. We also caters to RSBY, ECHS and almost all Health Insurance Schemes.

GENERAL

Accommodation is provided for Dean and Medical Superintendent and offices for supportive staff, Nursing Superintendent’s room along with computer and internet facility and waiting space for the visitors is provided.

CENTRAL REGISTRATION

Both the Outpatient and Inpatient registration and MR Department are provided with computer facilities.

ENQUIRY

All the required information about facilities and services can be obtained from the Hospital Enquiry round the clock. Appointments to see doctors have to be done after discussion with the enquiry.

OUT PATIENT DEPARTMENT Timings : 8AM – 4PM Registration Counter works from 7.30AM – 4PM. There are separate counter for Old and New cases. Prior appointments can be fixed on the previous day. They will be given preference. Only Emergency cases are allowed out of turn. Payments for all specialties can be made at the OP Billing Counter.

(i) MEDICINE AND ALLIED SPECIALITIES

a. GENERAL MEDICINE The department is a mixture of Experience & Quality. In addition to the OPD & IP services, the department offers 24 hours specialist services in MICU and Emergency Room. The department has speciality clinics on Diabetes, life style diseases, thyroid diseases etc.

b. PAEDIATRICS

The services of paediatricians are available round the clock. The department has a state of the art Paediatric ICU & NICU, Immunization and Well Baby Clinic, Paediatric Asthma Clinic and Neurological Developmental Disorders Clinic including Autism and ADHD.

c. TUBERCULOSIS AND RESPIRATORY DISEASES

The department undertakes all types of services (Diagnosis, Treatment & Prevention) of Respiratory Diseases. The department has speciality Clinics on Tobacco Smoking Cessation Clinic, Asthma Clinic and Allergy Clinic. Sleep lab is the latest clinic added.

d. DERMATOLOGY

It is a speciality with both medical and surgical aspects. All procedures in Dermatology & Cosmetology are being done. There are speciality clinics like Psoriasis clinic, Dematitis clinic etc.

e. PSYCHIATRY

The department takes care of all psychiatry problems of those who are acutely and chronically ill. They have De-Addiction centre, Electro convulsive therapy, Child Guidance Clinic and Dementia Clinic.

(ii) SURGERY AND ALLIED SPECIALITIES

a. GENERAL SURGERY

The surgeons are available round the clock. Routine and speciality surgeries are being done. Laparoscopic surgeries are also done. Emergency management & ICU facilities are available.

b. ORTHOPAEDICS

Replacement surgery is our speciality. We also provide Back-Ache Clinic, Paediatric Clinic etc.

c. OPHTHALMOLOGY

A fully equipped OPD , experienced faculty and a dedicated operation theatre with facilities for all ophthalmic procedures are provided. Regular ophthalmology medical camps & school programs are done.

d. OTO-RHINOLARYNGOLOGY (ENT)

The audiology department provides all audiology tests. The facilities provided are routine OPD procedures, Nasal Endoscopy, Video Laryngoscopy , Hearing Assessment tests, Neonatal screening for hearing, Speech therapy, Audiotory verbal therapy, Headache Clinic, Vertigo Clinic, Voice Disorder Clinic, Snoring Clinic & Hearing aid dispensing etc.

(iii) OBSTETRICS AND GYNAECOLOGY

The department is committed to provide excellent care to Gynaecological & Obstetric patients in addition to the specialty clinics. We have Gynaecologists round the clock. The department has separate provision of USG, Colposcopy and Laparoscopy. We run Special Gynaecology Clinic, Well Women Clinic, Adolecent Programs, Awareness Camps etc.

(iv) RADIO DIAGNOSIS

We have all necessary facilities including Fluroscopy, Ultra sound, Mobile X-ray system, CT Scan etc.

(v) ANAESTHESIOLOGY

We have well equipped and staffed Anaesthesia department.

OPERATION THEATRE

The operation theatres are centrally air-conditioned and well equipped. The Operation Theatre Unit is provided with facilities as per MCI Requirements. Two such units are provided for General Surgery, one for ENT, one for Orthopaedics; one for Ophthalmology and one for Obstetrics and Gynaecology and one for septic cases. One minor operation theatre is also provided.

(vi) DENTISTRY

Well equipped dental department is available. Dental department is organizing various dental health and evaluation program for common public and continuing dental education for dental professionals as well as staff. The department is full fledged as per the MCI Requirement.

CENTRAL STERILISATION SERVICES: There is an independent Central Sterilization unit capable of taking the total work load of operation theatres, laboratories etc. It has adequate equipments like bulk sterilizer with separate ends for loading unsterile material, cold sterilizer, Ethylene oxide sterilizer, freon ethylene instruments and mattress sterilizer, sterile racks, mixers, and trays for instruments etc. This department work round the clock and all materials, instruments, trays, and dressing material etc. will be supplied round the clock.

CENTRAL LABORATORY Central Laboratories is already provided in the Level 2 of the Hospital Block. We have state of the art equipments and established infrastructure which makes our reporting accurate. Technology driven professionals have helped in the up-gradation of our laboratory. Biochemistry, Clinical Microbiology and Pathology have facilities for all the routine tests. We have fully automated Arterial Blood Gas Analyzer and Fully automated hormone analyzer in addition to histopathology and immunoassays. All tests for diagnosing infectious diseases and tumor markers are available in our laboratory.

CENTRAL CASUALTY DEPARTMENT

Casualty deals with patients of several medical specialties. Work consists of treatment procedures performed on an outpatient basis, transport of patients to examination units and wards, and preparing patients for emergency operations. The casualty services are under the control of Chief Casualty Medical Officer. Observation ward is also available. The Resuscitation area is dedicated to the immediate care of patients and victims in cardiac arrest, airway, breathing and circulation compromise. Accommodation for Resuscitation Services including Oxygen supply, Ventilators, Defibrillator and two fully equipped disaster trolleys, Emergency X-Ray, Investigative facilities, Operation Theatres etc are provided. Adequate sanitary arrangements & drinking water facilities for patients, their attendants and the staff of the department are provided in the respective blocks.

Emergency and accidents room functions round the clock on all days.

Medical Officer and resident doctors are available 24 hrs all days.

CENTRAL HOSPITAL PHARMACY

Pharmacy department of the hospital is located so that an easy communication with other departments is possible. SNIMS Pharmacy is a department of service in this hospital, responsible for the supply of medicines to hospital wards as well as ambulatory patients. The department is headed by professionally competent, legally qualified pharmacist who directly supervises and ensures the correct dispensing & distribution of medicines to in & out patients.

CENTRAL HOSPITAL STORES SNIMS provide a Central Hospital Stores for stocking & supply of drugs, equipments etc.. The main function of Central Stores is to store and provide materials to all the clinical and non clinical areas of the hospital required for their smooth functioning.

Well furnished Staff Quarters is provided within the campus as per the MCI Requirement. Water supply, sanitation arrangements and good security for 24 hrs is provided for the Quarter Complex.

HOSTEL

The Medical College provides hostel facility for the students within the campus. SNIMS has provision for more than 75% of the total intake of students at a given time. SNIMS Hostel is a seven storied building with 14 rooms each in every floor. Each Hostel room has two or three occupants, book shelf, and cloth cupboards. Each person is provided with a chair and a table. Every floor has a reading room lift facility is also provided. Hostel is provided with a visitors room in the ground floor. Mess facility is also provided. A recreational facility room having T.V. , Gymnasium, Music, Indoor games etc provided.
