November: The Month of All Souls As is our custom at St. Vincent’s we will remember those who have gone home to God in two ways.
On November 4, at the 11 a.m. Mass, the names of all in our parish who have died in this past year will be called by name and a candle lit by a family member in
remembrance of them.
As November begins, we invite and welcome you to place photos of your deceased loved ones, no matter when they died, on the window sills in the worship space. These would remain there throughout the
month as we continue to call to mind those who have gone before us in the faith.
Position Open: Executive Director Capitol Area Council of Churches
The Executive Director reports to the CACC Board and is responsible for leading and administering
programs that advance the Council’s ecumenical and interfaith mission. At present these ministries include witness and advocacy for peace and justice, the winter
emergency overflow shelter, the region’s annual Church World Service CROPWalk, the Summer Kid’s
Lunchbox Program, the Martin Luther King Scholarship Program, and the Protestant Campus
Ministry at SUNY Albany. The position pays $42,000 annually with salary and benefits. Candidates may be clergy or lay persons. Please submit resume and application letter and
suggested nominations to the Capital Area Council of Churches, c/o the Search Committee at
[email protected] or CACC, 646 State Street, Albany, NY 12203. The board would like to hear by

Solemnity of All Saints– November 1st In this feast the church acknowledges all the faithful who have preached the Gospel with their lives and
never received formal canonization. Join St. Vincent’s in prayer with the celebration of Mass at 6:00PM. Volunteers are needed for the liturgical ministries,

challenge any of us with an empty nest. Dates for this program are November 6, 13 and 20. Sessions will be on Tuesdays at 2:00 & 7:00PM in the
Parish Hall. The cost is $6 for each. For more information, contact Barbara Bailey at

Lamb of God
What is the song being sung right before we receive Communion?
Marie answers:
As most of you know, I take my job as a liturgical musician pretty seriously. My hope is that there is an experience of music and liturgy that draws us all in to a deeper level of prayer and closeness with God and
community, and moves to fulfill the mission of Jesus as we leave these walls.
I have gotten some questions recently about the Lamb of God, the prayer sung as the Eucharistic elements, the bread and wine are prepared to be given to the people. What exactly is the cantor singing?
Because the Lamb of God is one of those musical pieces that accompanies ritual action, its form is that of a
litany. It can be shorter or longer, depending on the need. The ritual action (the breaking of the bread) is accompanied by the invocation (Lamb of God) which “may be repeated as many times as necessary until the rite has been completed. The final time it concludes with the words grant us peace.” (General Instruction of the Roman
Missal #83)
We sing “Lamb of God” in English to begin and then repeat “Lamb of God” in various languages, until we go back to “Lamb of God” in English. This signals the last refrain which
is: “Grant us peace,”
Over the past several years, members of our community from various countries have taught me how to say “Lamb of God” in their native language. It has been a wonderful experience, and as we do this, we are reminded that the Body of Christ encompasses the whole world. So if we do not yet sing “Lamb of God” in your original
language, please share this with me.
Below is a listing of some of the languages you might hear: Agnus Dei (Latin)
Cordero de Dios (Spanish) Hana Nime yang (Korean)
Hwayana ya Mwari (Shona/Zimbabwe) Kimeme kia Nzambi (Kikongo)
Mwana koondo wa Mungu (Swahili) A Caliga Ka Katanda (Bantu/Luganda)
Kordero ng Diyos (Tagalog/Filipino) Agneau de Dieu (French) Baranku Bozy (Polish)
Kataama Ka Ruhanga (Rutdorl/Uganda) Isten Báránya (Hungarian)
Anak Domba Allah (Indonesian) Agnello di Dio (Italian) Lamm Gottes (German)
Cordeiro de Deus (Portuguese)
