PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Bonjour à tous! Thank you to all who were able to attend out beautiful assembly for Remem-
brance Day. The students who participated can be very proud and those in the audience
were beautifully behaved. They were very respectful and attentive—bravo!
We are always doing many things here at school and our newsletter is meant to keep you
updated. If you have subscribed to the school Remind, you will also get reminders by text for
many of these things. Adding dates to your home calendars can help keep everyone on track
as there are so many events going on! For instance, this week our Gr 6s went to City Hall to
learn about local government with the Mayor and his staff. There is a Hot Lunch from Subway
on Wednesday and Friday is the primary report writing day so no school for K-3. We are start-
ing to work on selections for the Winter Concert Dec 18th and teachers are preparing to report
on student progress.
Regarding hot lunches, we want to clarify that there are two types of Hot Lunch. One is PAC
sponsored and is a service and close to cost. The prices are as low as possible so families can
enjoy this treat. Special fund raising Hot Lunches are a little more expensive as their goal IS to
raise money for major trips such as trips to Ft St James, Ness Lake, or Quebec. This is meant to
lessen the cost for parents at the times of the event.
Christmas—the season of giving: as a school we traditionally support local families in need by
creating Christmas collections. We will do something slightly different this year as some classes
will do the traditional collections and some will try a new initiative. This project has students
creating Stockings for Seniors. You will receive information very soon from your child’s teacher
so you can participate if you choose. We also do an annual food drive and donate all of the
items to the families. Last year we were able to give 4 boxes of food/household items plus a
gift collection to each family. It was more than heartwarming to know the difference LDB’s
generosity would make. Watch fro more info coming soon.
Please remember to dress your children for playing outside :-) It is very brisk if a child is under
prepared!

POLICY 5101 FINANCIAL HARDSHIP:
This policy exists to support students and families when need arises. No student will be denied access to curricular activities due to financial need. In special circumstances, schools may charge fees (instrument rentals, athletic programs like hockey school, or special camps). However, families wishing a little extra help are encouraged to contact the principal or vice principal as financial support may be arranged. Families may contact the principal or vice-principal by telephone or email to make arrangements for financial support. This support is confidential and will be available upon request. School fees and expenses: the policy extends to these costs as well. At Ecole Lac des Bois, you can contact Mme Smith: [email protected] or Mme Coates: [email protected]
BIBILOTHÈQUE/LIBRARY: Intermediate students have been challenged to make the longest chain, or cut a paper so they can step through it. Ask your child if they were successful! This week they will be learning the 5 types of Non-fiction. I have been sharing my favourite French authors with the primary students. Kindergarten students were told a Mercer Meyer story by felt images. The next author I am sharing with Kindergarten students is Jan Brett.
Check online for the interesting programs at the public library. Legotime and Tens to Teens at the Nechako Branch; Pajama storytime, free homework help (register to access), and tens to Teens’ Needlecraft at the Bob Harkins Branch. There are also many special upcoming events!

This is a fundraiser for the Gr 4/5 classes and their big trips in
the spring. As such, the prices are a bit higher. These are
EXTRA and OPTIONAL– these fundraiser lunches can be
ordered online as normal at hotlunches.net
The monthly PAC hot lunches will still be offered at their usual
price points.
LUNCH TIME CUTLERY REMINDER
We have had numerous students coming to the office for spoons. While we don’t mind giving
out a spoon as a ‘one off’, lately there are more students than spoons. Please remember to
send cutlery for lunch time!
WINTER CONCERT
We will have two identical concerts on Wednesday, December 18th: one will be in the morning starting at
10:45 (for families of students in even-numbered divisions) and one in the afternoon starting at 1:15 (for
families of students in odd-numbered divisions). The concerts will be approximately one hour long. Please
stay tuned for information regarding parking for parents during the concerts.
PARKING LOT ETIQUETTE
OR LACK THEREOF…Please remember the safety rules with regard to our park-
ing lot. Profanity and poor manners are not acceptable. Instead, we expect that
all adults are modeling patience, manners, and respect when it comes to picking
up and dropping off children. We need to keep “OUR” children safe. Please
drive slowly and carefully through the parking lot, please do not stop or park in
no parking/no stopping spots, and most definitely, altercations/profanity directed
toward other families is not okay.
Finally, we are a “no idling” zone. Please turn off your vehicle if you are waiting for your child. Run-
ning engines exacerbate asthma and add emissions to the air—we want to be a responsible school
community, so let’s all do our part!
OUR “OURS” BELIEFS
Below are our OURS beliefs. You may have already noticed this matrix in our parent handbook and in our
student agendas. We are going to be focusing on these ideas often (such as in our monthly assemblies and
on the daily announcements) as we want a whole school language and understanding of behavioural expec-
tations and beliefs at Lac des Bois. You are encouraged to mirror this same language and these ideas at
home, too!
