「祈り」の先に

もう20年も前のこと。インドのカルカッタにある「死を待つ人の家」でマザー・テレサに逢った。彼女から貰ったカードにあった言葉

は今でも私の宝物だ。そして、ずっとその意味を考えている。

私は無神論者だしその存在も信じていない。「祈る」ことで何かが変わるというのだろうか？神様がいるのなら、どうして世の中はこんなにも不平等なのか？とずっと思っているくらいだった。

仕事がら、よく、旧市街にあるノートルダム大聖堂に行く。先日、出会った光景が忘れられない。祭壇近くの席で、ひとりの中年女性がぼろぼろと涙をこぼしながら祈りを捧げていた。何があったのかは分からない、でも、そうやって「祈る」ことで救われるのか、それも私には分からない。

「祈り」とはなに？「PEACE」とはなに？「祈る」ことが「PEACE」につながるの？

そんな唐突な疑問にいつも付き合ってくれる友人が、「すべてはもう神の意思で運命、ルートは決まっているんだよ。人間にできることなんて何にもない。ただ、人生に起こったことを抗わずに受け入れるだけ。神は、もう善悪を超えている。私たちが2元論で捉えているだけで、神、宇宙のレベルではそれはどちらも同じこと。私たちに出来ることは、起こる全てのことを受け入れて【感謝】して、自分を【愛】することだけなんだよ」と答えてくれた。

また今年もクリスマスがやってくる。この日だけは、自分のために神の前に立ち、祈ってみようと思う。自分が今、ここに生きていることに「感謝」し、あの日泣いていたあの人、「死を待つ人の家」でその日を待つ人、そして私の周りにいるあの人この人のために、私ができるありったけの

「愛（LOVE）」を込めて祈りを捧げてみようと思う。

全てのことに「感謝」を込めて、「PEACE」をあなたに。

Cela fait déjà 20 ans. J’ai rencontré mère Teresa dans un hospice de Calcu-tta (aussi appelée Kolkata) en Inde qui portait le nom de Kalighat, la maison des cœurs purs. Elle m’a donné une carte qui contenait le message suivant :

Le fruit du SILENCE est la prière Le fruit de la PRIÈRE est la foi Le fruit de la FOI est l’amour Le fruit de l’AMOUR est le service Le fruit du SERVICE est la paix Mère Teresa

Je conserve précieusement ce messa-ge depuis très longtemps et j’ai réfléchi à la signification que recelait chacune de ses lignes.

Je suis athée; je ne crois donc en aucu-ne divinité. Je me demandais : « Est-ce que la prière peut changer quelque chose? S’il existe un Dieu, pourquoi ce monde est-il si injuste? »

Je me rends souvent à la basilique No-tre-Dame dans le Vieux-Montréal pour le travail. L’autre jour, j’ai été témoin d’une scène que je n’oublierai jamais. Une dame d’âge moyen priait alors que ses larmes tombaient tout près de l’autel. Je

n’avais aucune idée de ce qui lui était arrivé et je n’étais pas convaincue que cette prière puisse l’aider.

Qu’est-ce que la « prière »? Qu’est-ce que la « paix »? Est-ce que la « prière » apporte la « paix »?

Mon amie, qui répond généralement à ce genre de question, dit : « Le destin et le chemin de tous les Êtres ont été établis selon la volonté de Dieu. Il n’y a rien que nous, humains, puissions faire. Nous ne faisons qu’accepter tout ce qui se produit dans nos vies sans résister. Nous voyons le mal et le bien dans toute chose, mais Dieu est au-delà de ce type de pensée dualiste. La seule chose que nous puissions faire est de nous aimer et d’accepter avec grâce tout ce qui peut nous arriver. »

Noël arrive à grands pas. J’aimerais donc adresser une seule fois une prière à Dieu. Pour démontrer ma reconnais-sance à l’égard de ma vie, j’aimerais prier de tout mon cœur pour cette fem-me qui pleurait cette journée-là, pour les gens qui attendent leur dernier jour à Kalighat et pour tous les gens qui m’en-tourent.

Je vous souhaite la paix et la reconnais-sance en cette saison des Fêtes.

It has been 20 years already. I met Mother Teresa at a hospice in Cal-cutta, India (currently Kolkata) called Kalighat, the Home of the Pure Heart.She gave me a card with this message inside:

I have treasured this note for a long time, and I have been thinking about the meaning behind each line.

I am an atheist, so I do not believe in any deity. “Can pray change anything? If there is God, why is this world so unfair?” I have thought.

I often go to Notre-Dame Basilica in Old Montreal for work. The other day, I came across a scene that I can’t forget. A middle-aged lady was praying as her tears fell near the alter. I had no idea what had happened to her, and wasn’t sure if

prayer could help her.

What is “prayer”? What is “peace”? Does “prayer” bring “peace”?

My friend, who usually responds to these types of unexpected questions, said: “Fate and paths of all beings have been decided by God’s will. There is nothing we human beings can do. We just accept whatever happens in our lives without resisting. Although we see the good and the bad in everything, God is beyond this sort of dualistic thinking. The only thing we can do is love ourselves and gracefully accept whatever happens to us.”

Christmas is quickly approaching. I would like to pray to God just this once. To show I appreciate my life, I would like to pray with all of my heart for the lady who was crying that day, for the people who are waiting for their last day at Kalighat, and for all those people around me.

広島県の東端、福山市に「鞆の浦（とものうら）」という小さな港町がある。小さな古い町ではあるが、ここには他の町にはない特別なものがあり、人々を魅了している。JR福山駅からバスで約30分、鞆の浦に着いたら何はともあれ「対潮楼（たいちょうろう）」に登って欲しい。ここは、平安時代の950年ごろに創建された福禅寺の境内にある客殿である。対潮楼に上がると、そこから見える景色に思わず感嘆せざるを得ない。楼閣の窓枠がフレームになって、その中の景色がまるで計算されて描かれた一葉の絵画のように見えるのだ。広々とした楼閣の、どこに立って眺めてみても完璧なバランスを持った芸術作品になっている。この楼閣の設計者が、どうだと言わんばかりに胸を張っているのが見えるような気がして、思わずニヤリとしてしまうのだ。

7世紀～8世紀の日本最古の和歌集である「万葉集」にも度々その名が登場する鞆の浦。いにしえの人々はその妙なる美しさに故郷や家族への想いを託して歌を詠んだ。江戸時代には、鞆の浦は朝鮮通信使の船が寄港する町として栄え、この対潮楼で彼らを丁重にもてなした。1711年には、朝鮮通信使の一人が、対潮楼からの眺めを「日東第一形勝（朝鮮より東で、一番の景勝地）」と賞賛した。今日も私たちが対潮楼から目にする風景は、もちろん日々変化してはいるが、彼らの眺めた景色と大きく違わないだろう。鞆の浦の人々は、いにしえから愛されてきたこの景観を心から愛し、先祖代々守ってきた。

鞆の浦には、古くから大事に残されたもので溢れている。江戸時代の港町によく見られた常夜灯、雁木

（がんぎ）、波止場、焚場（たでば）、船番所、この全てが今でも揃っているのは、全国でも鞆の浦だけである。さらに最近では、古いものを現代に合った形で有効利用し町を活性化しようという動きも活発だ。2月から3月に行われる「鞆・町並みひな祭り」には、毎年全国から多くの観光客が訪れる。鞆の浦の商家や町家で先祖代々受け継がれたひな人形を、家の中でなく町中のあちこちの商店に展示する。期間中は、古い町並みを歩きながら珍しい人形を楽しめるとあって、大人気イベントとなっている。変化ばかりが要求されがちな現代にあって、古いものの良さを見失わないことの新しさを鞆の浦は教えてくれているようだ。

FrançaisLa petite ville de «Tomonoura» est située à l’extré-mité Est de la préfecture d’Hiroshima. Ville ances-trale et assez petite, elle émane quelque chose de spécial qui y a attiré les gens pendant des siècles.

En partant de la gare de JR Fukuyama et après un trajet en autobus de 30 minutes, vous arriverez au port de Tomonoura. Arrivé là, je vous recommande

fortement d’aller à «Taichoro» pour commencer. «Taichoro» est une salle de réception faisant face à l’océan et qui a été construite sur le terrain du temple Fukuzenji. Depuis sa construction, datant de 1690, cette salle grandiose a été utilisée pour accueillir plusieurs personnages importants. En admirant le panorama de Taichoro, on ne peut que constater l’ingéniosité de l’architecte. Sur tous les murs de la salle, vous pourrez voir des images qui ornent le contour des fenêtres. Je peux facilement imaginer l’architecte debout à côté de moi me chu-chotant à l’oreille : «alors qu’est-ce que vous en pensez?»

Le nom de Tomonoura apparaît plusieurs fois dans

le «Man’yōshū», le plus ancien recueil de poèmes japonais qui a été compilé dans le 7e et 8e siècle. C’est en contemplant les paysages de Tomonoura que nos prédécesseurs ont écrit ces magnifiques poèmes sur leur famille et leurs origines. Durant la période Edo, qui couvre la plus grande partie du 17e et du 19e siècle, Tomonoura a prospéré comme un lieu d’accueil des ambassadeurs de Corée. L’un d’eux aurait même déclaré après avoir admiré le paysage : «C’est le plus bel endroit à l’Est de la Corée.» Aujourd’hui, la vue offerte par Tomonoura est très similaire aux paysages qui pouvaient être admirés par nos ancêtres. Les gens de Tomonoura ont essayé de leur mieux pour pré-server l’état des lieux et ainsi conserver la beauté

des paysages. C’est pourquoi il y a beaucoup de choses précieuses à Tomonoura qui ont survécu pendant des siècles. Par exemple, les feux ouverts toute la nuit, les ruelles couvertes, ses petits quais et les stations de réparation de bateaux; qui sont très communs dans les villes portuaires à travers l’ensemble du pays au cours de la période Edo. À partir de maintenant, Tomonoura est la seule ville dans tout le Japon qui a toujours conservé tous ces éléments.

Il y a eu récemment une tendance à préserver certains aspects du passé tout en les adaptant à l’ère moderne. De février à mars, a lieu dans cette ville le «Tomo Machinami Hinamatsuri *», un événements des plus populaires. Tomonoura ayant gardé son charme d’autrefois, les gens ont gardé leurs poupées Hina qu’ils ont héritées de leurs ancêtres. Pour cet événement, ces précieu-ses poupées Hina sont exposées dans des maga-sins répartis à travers la ville afin que les visiteurs puissent profiter à la fois la ville et de ces belles poupées ancestrales. Cet événement est devenu très populaire parmi les amateurs de poupées au Japon.

Aujourd’hui, nous sommes souvent pris dans les montagnes russes de la vie moderne, et ce, au détriment de nos traditions. Après avoir visité To-monoura, je pensais que nous devrions parfois nous arrêter et réfléchir à deux fois avant de mon-ter dans ces montagnes russes que sont la vie moderne.

The small town of “Tomonoura” is situated at the East end of the Hiroshima prefecture. It is vener-ably old and quite small, but emanates something special which has attracted people for centuries.

After a 30 minute bus ride from JR Fukuyama sta-tion; you will arrive at Tomonoura Port. Arriving there, I strongly recommend going up to “Taichoro” for starters. “Taichoro” is a guest hall which faces the ocean and that was built on the grounds of the Fukuzenji temple. Since its construction, dating back approximately to 1690, this guest hall and its scenic beauty have been used to welcome impor-tant people. Taking in the scenery from Taichoro, I can’t help to admit how clever the architect was. Standing at any points in the hall, you will see per-fectly designed pictures purposely skirted by the window frames. I can actually imagine the architect standing beside me and puffing his chest up whilst saying “so what do you think?”

The name of Tomonoura appears several times in the “Man’yōshū”, the oldest anthology of Japanese poems which was compiled in the 7th and 8th cen-tury. The ancient people wrote poems thinking of their hometown or family while contemplating the beautiful sights in Tomonoura. In the Edo period, covering the better part of the 17th and the 19th century, Tomonoura thrived as a place to welcome envoys from Korea. It has been recorded that one of the envoys admired the scenery and declared “This is the most beautiful place East of Korea.” Today, the views offered by Tomonoura are, whilst changing daily, mostly similar to the views that could be admired in ancient Tomonoura. People in Tomonoura love the unchanged scenery from the

old days and have been trying their very best to save it. That’s why there are many precious things in Tomonoura which have survived for centuries. For example, lights opened all night long, cov-ered alleys, boating docks, repair docks and boat guard stations; these used to be all very common in port towns across the entire country during the Edo period. As of now, Tomonoura is the only town throughout Japan which has still conserved all of these elements.

There has recently been a tendency to create new demand by reusing things that have been pre-served in ways more agreeable with the modern age. In February and March “Tomo Machinami Hinamatsuri*”, which is one of the most popular event, is held in this town. Since Tomonoura is such an old town, people have kept their Hina dolls which were inherited from their ancestors. For this event, the precious antique Hina dolls are delicate-ly relocated from their owner’s house, decorated and exposed in shops spread around town so that visitors can enjoy both walking around the old town and seeing beautiful antique dolls. This event has become very popular amongst doll-aficionados in Japan.

In today’s society, we are often so taken with the roller-coaster like pace of change that we may easily lose traditional elements. After visiting Tomonoura, I thought that we may have to stop and think twice before riding roller coasters.

*Hinamatsuri: girl’s doll festival held on March 3rd that celebrates girl’s health and growth by decorating a Hina doll, a pair of Hina dolls or a family of Hina dolls.

数年前、まだ幼かった娘と私の共通の愛読書といえば、ミヒャエル・エンデ作「モモ」。時間泥棒と、時間を人間に取り返してくれた女の子の物語は、読むたびに心に温もりをくれました。でも、本日ご紹介するモモは、心ばかりでなくお腹にも届く温かさです！ オンタリオ通りのChez Gatséは、1991年、モントリオールで最初にできたチベット料理レストラン。保存料や化学調味料を使わない素朴な味わいのメニューが、根強い人気を誇っています。のどかな雰囲気を醸し出すBGMに、柔らかい色調の内装。勿論、ダライ・ラマの写真も飾られています。オーナーであるJIGME N. KASHHIさんと、シェフである奥様の、限りなく優しい笑顔は、チベットへの旅情をいやがおうにも掻き立てます。 一番のお勧めがモモ。小麦粉をこねて伸ばした皮で、肉や野菜を包み、蒸したり焼いたりしたもの。日本で食べる「肉まん」や「餃子」に近い形と味。チベットではマトンやヤクのお肉を使うのが主流ですが、Chez Gatséでは、ビーフ、チーズ、野菜の三種類から好きな組み合わせで２つ選択できる仕組み。手作りの皮は蒸したらフカフカ、焼いたらプリプリ。ビーフは塊肉を買ってきて細かく刻むところから始めるそうな。ベジタリアンの私は、チーズと野菜を選択。甘味のあるチーズ入りはおやつ感覚、そしてしっかりと味がついた野菜はランチのメインにぴったりです。付け合わせのショコカツァは、カレー風味のじゃがいも。癖になるお味。

ランチといえば、メインディッシュをモモやトゥクパ（手打ちうどん）から選び、それにスープとジャスミンティーがついて$8.5というお得なコースがあります。夜のディナーコースはスープ、メインディッシュ、デザートで$15.59です。シュムドゥというヨーグルトドリンクや塩バター風味のお茶などは典型的なチベットの飲み物。旅情に徹したい人にはお勧めです。

悠久を生きる「モモ」になった気分でChez Gatséのモモをいただきましょう。A TABLE!

C’était l’histoire d’une fille qui récupérait le temps volé par des criminels qui n’étaient pas humains. Mon cœur était rempli de bonheur chaque fois que je le lisais. Le « Momo » que je vous introduis aujourd’hui vous remplira le ventre de bonheur!

Chez Gatsé, situé sur la rue Ontario, a ouvert ses portes en 1991; le premier restaurant tibétain à Montréal. Cet établisse-

ment est fier d’offrir des ingrédients qui ne contiennent aucun préservatif ou glutamate de sodium, et il est très populaire au-près des résidents du quartier. La musique de fond crée une atmosphère paisible, et l’intérieur est décoré avec des couleurs douces et, bien sûr, avec une photo du Dalaï Lama. Le pro-priétaire, M. Jigme N. Kashhi et sa femme, le chef, souhait-ent la bienvenue aux clients avec des sourires qui touchent au cœur, donnant envie de voyager au Tibet.

Je suggère fortement les momos. Faits de légumes ou de viandes, cuits à la vapeur ou au four, ils sont emballés dans une pâte élastique fait à base de farine pétrie. La forme et la saveur ressemblent à des petits pains cuits japonais remplis de viande. Du gyoza aussi! Au Tibet, les gens utilisent principale-ment la viande de mouton ou du yack, mais Chez Gatsé on offre du bœuf, du fromage ou des légumes, et ils vous lais-sent également choisir une combinaison de deux. La pâte faite à la main devient moelleuse lorsqu’on la cuit à la vapeur et élastique quand on le cuit au four. Le bœuf de Chez Gatsé est coupé en plusieurs petits morceaux. Comme je suis végétari-enne, j’ai choisi fromage et légumes. Le fromage était sucré et ressemblait à une collation, et la saveur forte des légumes était parfaite pour mon repas principal. Du curry aux patates étaient servis comme du shoko khatsa, une garniture, et c’était drôle-ment addictif.

Leur dîner est une bon affaire! Vous pouvez choisir leur momos ou thukpas (des nouilles faites à main) comme votre repas prin-cipal, accompagné par de la soupe et du thé de jasmin. Le dîner comprend le repas principal, la soupe et un dessert pour seule-ment $15,59. Vous pouvez également choisir des breuvages typiques du Tibet comme du choumdou, une sorte de yogourt buvable, ou du thé qui a une saveur de beurre salé. Si vous voulez vous sentir comme si vous partiez en voyage au Tibet, je vous recommande ces plats très forte-ment.Dégustons des mo-mos à Chez Gatsé en-core et encore, com-me si vous viviez pour une éternité comme Momo. C’est prêt!

A few years ago, Michael Ende’s Momo was a favourite book of both mine and my young daughter. It was the story of a girl who took back stolen time from non-human thieves. It made my heart feel warm whenever I read it. The “Momo” that I’m introducing to you today will make your tummy feel warm!

Chez Gasté on Ontario Street, was opened in 1991 and was the first Tibetan restaurant in Montreal. This restaurant prides itself on having ingredients that don’t include preservatives or monosodium glutamate, and is very popular with locals. The background music provides a peaceful atmosphere, and the interior is decorated with soft colours and a photo of the Dalai Lama, of course! The owner, Mr Jigme N. Kashhi, and the chef, his wife, greet customers with boundless smiles that touch the hearts of patrons, resulting in a desire to travel to Tibet. My top recommendation is momos, steamed or baked meat or vegetables that are wrapped in a stretchy flat dough made of kneaded flour. The shape and taste are similar to a Japa-

nese steamed bun filled with meat. And gyoza too! In Tibet, people usually use mutton or yak meat; however Chez Gatsé offers beef, cheese, and vegetables, and lets you choose a combination of the two. The handmade skin becomes soft when steamed, and elastic when baked. Chez Gatsé’s beef is cut into nice, small pieces. Since I am a vegetarian, I chose cheese and vegetables. The cheese option was sweet and snack-like and the strong taste of the vegetables were suit-able for my main course. Curried potatoes were served as shoko khatsa, a garnish, and were completely addictive!

Their lunch is quite a good deal! You can choose either mo-mos or thukpas (handmade noodles) as your main dish; they are accompanied by soup and jasmine tea. The dinner course includes a main, a soup, and a dessert for only $15.59. You can also choose from typical Tibetan drinks such as choumdou, a yogourt drink, or tea that has a salty butter taste. If you want to feel like you are travelling in Tibet, I highly recommend these dishes to you.

Let’s have momos at Chez Gatsé as if you are “Momo” who lives for an eternity—enjoy it again and again. It’s ready!

「そのよるの侍」は、演出・脚本家、そして俳優として活躍する赤堀雅秋監督の初監督作品。

最愛の妻をひき逃げされ、復讐を誓う孤独な主人公（堺雅人）と、彼に追われるひき逃げ犯（山田孝之）を中心に描かれる濃密な人間模様の描き方が、公開直後より大きな話題となっています。復讐の意外な結末が、観るものすべてをアッと言わせる本作について、赤堀監督自身に語っていただきました。

ー初めてメガホンを取るにあたって、心がけたのはどのようなことですか？

「この物語をどうお客さんに伝えようか」ということ、そして「演じている役者さんがいかにその人物になり切って、その場にいられるのか」ということだけをできるだけシンプルに考えて作りました。

ーそれぞれの役の心理描写、そして人間関係の描き方が印象的でしたが、演技指導はどのようにされたのですか？

各々の登場人物の背景であったり、台本には描かれていない部分だったりを役者の皆さんとこまめに色々話し、できるだけ役者さんの中でイメージが湧くような導き方をしました。「いい演技」や「うまい演技」ではなく、その人物になりきって欲しいということを常に言っていました。

ーこの映画は、被害者側による犯人への復讐劇なのですが、結末の描き方はいわゆる復讐劇の概念を裏切ったものでしたね。

映画であれ舞台であれ、最終的な答えというのは、お客さんが考えていただくことであると思っています。だから自分がものを作る上では、わかりやすいハッピーエンドやメッセージという提示のしかたをしたくないんです。この映画は主人公2人だけではなく、いわゆる群像劇と言っても過言ではないのですが、それぞれの登場人物の人生が、劇中で描かれる出来事を通じて、ちょっとずつ「いい方向」にいけるような物語になればと思って作りました。

＝＝＝インタビューの後、赤堀監督は「また映画を作るとしても、地方都市の人々の、なんでもない日常を描くんだろうな」と呟きました。なんでもない日常の中に光るのは、かけがえのない瞬間。そんな切なさを丁寧に描き出した赤堀監督の、次回作にも期待せずにはいられません。 English

“Sono Yoruno Samurai” (Samurai at the Night) is the first movie directed by Masaaki Akahori, who is also a producer, play-wright, and actor.

Director Akahori portrays deep human relationships in the movie. Masato Sakai plays the hero who swears revenge on the driver (Takayuki Yamada) involved in his wife’s hit and run accident.

-Since this is the first movie you have directed, what did you try to do?

I tried to make this story as simple as possible in how I deliver it to the audience and to see how much can I help actors throw themselves into their role.

-I was impressed with the psychological description of each character and how you portray their rela-tionships. How did you coach actors?

We exchanged the background of each character – which was not written about much in the play – in order to make actors easily picture themselves in their role. I didn’t expect “good act-ing” but I always say to embody the person you play.

- although the main theme of this movie is getting revenge on someone who committed a crime, how your picture ends betrays one’s typical concept of revenge.

I don’t want to show a clear message nor a happy ending. I al-ways leave the final decision to the audience even if it’s a movie or a play. The movie focuses on not only two main characters; there are many others throughout the film who garner viewers’ attention. I made this film thinking that the life of each character will get better little by little as they experience the events that occur in the film.

At the conclusion of the interview, almost as an aside, director Akahori said “I would make another movie that depicts people’s

everyday life in a provincial city.” …Precious moments shine in every life. Director Akahori depicts such wistfulness with care. I can’t wait for his next movie.

“Sono Yoruno Samurai» (Samouraï de la Nuit) est le premier film réalisé par Masaaki Akahori, qui est égale-ment un producteur, dramaturge et acteur.

M. Akahori dépeint des relations humaines profondes dans ce film. Masato Sakai joue le héros qui jure de se venger du chauffeur (Takayuki Yamada) qui a tué sa femme dans un accident de la route.

-Puisque c’est le premier film que vous avez réalisé, quel était votre objectif?

J’ai essayé de rendre cette histoire aussi simple que possible dans la façon de la livrer au public et j’ai aussi tenté d’aider les acteurs à bien camper leur personnage pour qu’ils soit le plus crédibles possible.

-J’ai été impressionné par la profondeur psycholo-gique de chaque personnage et comment vous avez décrit leurs relations. comment avez-vous dirigé les acteurs?

Nous avons créé un passé détaillé pour chaque personnage - qui n’était pas développé dans le scénario - afin de permet-tre aux acteurs de facilement s’imaginer dans leur rôle. Je ne voulais pas qu’ils “jouent” leur personnage, mais qu’ils les in-carnent.

- Bien que le thème principal de ce film est la ven-geance, comment votre film se différencie des autres films sur le même sujet?

Je ne voulais pas montrer un message clair, ni une fin heu-reuse. J’ai toujours laissé la décision finale à l’audience, même si c’est un film tiré d’une pièce de théâtre. Le film se concentre surtout sur deux personnages principaux mais il y a beaucoup à travers le film qui attirera l’attention des téléspectateurs. J’ai fait ce film en pensant que la vie de chaque personnage va s’améliorer petit à petit à mesure qu’ils vivent les événements qui se produisent dans le film.

A l’issue de l’entrevue, presque en aparté, M. Akahori a dé-claré: «Je voudrais faire un autre film qui dépeint la vie quoti-dienne des gens dans une ville de province.” ... Des moments précieux de la vie de tout un chacun. J’attends avec impatience son prochain film!

トランクの中に夢と希望を詰め込んで街から街へと旅する日本人パフォーマー、ヤノミ。2012年度のモントリオール・フリンジ演劇祭で、日本人初の「最優秀英語演劇賞」を受賞した彼女が、代表作である一人芝居、「ミスしゃっくりの幸せな一日」で2013年1月にモントリオールに再上陸します。

ステージでは一言もしゃべらない「無言劇」を行うヤノミ。その胸の中には、いったいどんな言葉が溢れているのでしょうか？

ー「ミスしゃっくりの幸せな一日」には、どんな特徴があるのでしょうか？ この芝居は、ひとりで暮らす、ミスしゃっくりの朝から夜までのとある一日の物語です。セリフをほとんどしゃべらず、スキャットによる歌と効果音や音楽、小道具などを使った身体表現のみで物語を紡いで行きます。一般的なパントマイムとも全く異なる、非常にユニークなコメディです。言葉を使わないため、国境を超えてどなたも楽しんで頂け、子

供も大人もそれぞれの楽しみ方をして頂けます。子どもはもちろん大喜びしますし、大人は爆笑した挙げ句に泣いたりすることさえあります。

ーこのプロジェクトに込められたメッセージを教えてください。 人間の想像力は無限で、どんなにささやかなことにも愉しさを見つけることが可能だということ、笑うということは希望そのものでありうるということ、小さな人生のなかに素晴らしい美しさがあるということ、などです。人生に一度でも孤独を味わったことがある大人たち、そして全ての子どもたちに、是非一度ミスしゃっくりをご覧いただきたいです。

ーモントリオールの皆さんに、メッセージをお願いします。 モントリオールで上演できることを心から幸せに思っています。モントリオールは私の人生を大きく変えてくれた町だからです。劇場でお会いできることを楽しみにしています。

Yanomi is a member of the Japanese performance group Shoshinz and is currently touring with her solo physi-cal comedy show ‘A Day in the Life of Miss Hiccup’. Just this summer, Yanomi was awarded “Best Produc-tion – English Theatre Award” at Montreal’s Fringe Festival, and soon she will be returning to Montreal with her signature ‘Miss Hiccup’ Show! Yanomi doesn’t speak at all through-out the performance, so I am curious: what exactly is the message hidden in this show?

- Yanomi, what makes your performance and art unique?

This particular show follows “A Day in the Life of Miss Hiccup”, who lives at home by herself. I don’t speak at all; instead I sing songs, making music and sound effects with my various props. Without language, my show can easily cross borders, ages, and cultures. Kids find the show exciting, and adults always laugh out loud. Sometimes they even cry at the end.

- is there a particular message you hope to convey through your art?

Yanomi, membre du groupe de spec-tacles japonais, Shoshinz, est en ce moment en tournée pour son spec-tacle de comédie physique en solo : « A Day in the Life of Miss Hiccup » (Une journée dans la vie de made-moiselle Hoquet). Elle vient tout juste de recevoir, cet été, le prix de « Meil-leure production – Prix du théâtre anglophone » au Festival Fringe de Montréal. Elle reviendra bientôt à Montréal avec sa représentation de marque : « Miss Hiccup's Show ». Yanomi ne parle pas du tout pendant son spectacle, je suis donc curieuse : qu'est donc le message dissimulé dans ce spectacle?

Yanomi, qu’est-ce qui fait de votre représentation et de vo-tre art unique?

Ce spectacle particulier suit « une journée dans la vie de mademoiselle Hoquet », qui vit seule à la maison.

Je ne parle pas du tout, mais je chante des chansons, en faisant de la musique et en créant des effets sonores avec différents accessoires. Sans langage, mon spectacle peut facilement franchir les barrières lin-guistiques, l’âge et la culture. Les en-fants le trouve entraînant, tandis que les adultes rient toujours aux éclats. Des fois, ils pleurent même à la fin.

souhaitez-vous transmettre un message en particulier à travers votre art?

L’imagination n’a aucune limite. Elle peut trouver joie et bonheur, même dans les choses minutieuses de nos vies. Rire donne l’espoir. Une vie minutieuse a une beauté incroyable. Que vous soyez jeune ou vieux, si vous vous êtes senti seul ne serait-ce qu'une fois, je pense que vous aimerez ce spectacle.

avez-vous un message pour les Montréalais?

Je suis vraiment heureuse de pou-voir faire mon show à Montréal. La dernière fois que j’y étais, cela a énormément changé ma vie. J’ai hâte de vous voir tous au théâtre!

日本伝統の文化である着物や手拭いをこよなく愛し、これらを素材としたベビー用品や子供服を、すべて手縫いで製作しているアーティスト的職人、佐藤伸子（さとう・のぶこ）さん。

地元の高校を卒業後、京都造形大学洋画科に進み、卒業後は関西でイラストレーターとして活躍。28歳のとき、さらなる飛躍を求めてモダンアートの本場、ニューヨークへ行き墨絵作品を持ってギャラリー回りをするが、 「日本である程度認められたのでニューヨークで力を試したかったのですが、どこへ行っても門前払いでした」６年目にやっと墨絵とアクリルを掛け合わせた作品の個展を開催し、反響を得た。 「路上でポストカード販売をしているとき、ニューヨークで有名なヘンディ・メンデルというデパートのバイヤーが来て『カードを全部買い取りたい』と言ってきたのです」 実際に全部買い上げてくれ、デパートのギャラリーで特別展示会も開催した。 ニューヨーク滞在中の1999年に結婚。2001年９月11日のテロに遭遇、「そのときは妊娠していて、テロの不安やビザの関係でこれ以上ニューヨークには住めないと思い、家族で日本へ帰国することにしました」 2002年に帰国し、伸子さん39歳で長女を出産。その後、長男、次男を出産。 日本に帰国して７年たった２年半前に再び北米に足を向けることになった。

子育て中は細々とベビーシューズなどを着物の生地で作っていたが、昨年あたりから本格的に「Ubu Chitta ブランド」を立ち上げて製作に本腰を入れることになった。Ubu とは純粋ムクな意味の「うぶ」で、Chitta はイタリア語で「集まる」という意味。 「ムクな赤ちゃんをイメージして付けました」と。製作しているのは、ベビー用シューズ、服、よだれかけ、子供用帽子、バッグなど。「すべて手縫いですから手間と時間がかかります」 それだけ手作りのぬくもりが感じられる。 現在は自身のウェブサイトやアメリカのネットショップ

「ETSY」でネット販売。さらにトロントのギャラリーやクラフト店が集まっている「Distillery」というクラフト店が製品を置いてくれるという話が進んでいる。

「将来、小さくてもいいから自分の作品だけを並べたお店が持てたら・・・」と願っている伸子さん。オリジナリティーあふれた独特の色合わせやデザインのUbu Chitta ブランドがカナダ社会に溶け込んで、和の世界を再認識してくれる日が遠からずくることを祈りたい。

Mme Nobuko Sato est une artiste qui adore la culture traditionnelle du Japon et qui crée des habits pour bébés et enfants à partir de kimono et Tenugui (serviette pour les mains). Suite à ses études secondaires, c'est à l’université Zokei à kyôto qu'elle choisit d'étudier la peinture étrangère; une fois graduée elle travailla en tant qu’illustratrice reconnue. Afin d’en apprendre plus, elle déménagea à 28 ans à new York, bastion de l’art moderne. Mme Sato se présenta dans maintes galeries d’art pour montrer ses “Sumi-e” (peintures à l’encre). Elle se rappelle: “en tant qu’artiste j’avais un certain succès au Japon donc je voulais voir comment mon art serait reçu à new York mais aucune des galeries n’était intéressée.” il y a 6 ans elle reçut enfin de bonnes critiques pour son exposition solo, un mélange de “Sumi-e” et peintures acryliques. “Je vendais des cartes postales peintes à la main dans les rues de New York et un acheteur du célèbre magasin Henri Bendel les a vues et toutes achetées.” Il y eut ensuite une exposition spéciale dans la galerie du magasin.

En 1999 Mme Sato, vivant toujours à new York, se maria. Elle vécut par la suite les événements du 11 septembre. “j’étais enceinte à l’époque, j’avais peur du terrorisme et j’avais aussi des problèmes avec mon visa. Je repartis au Japon avec ma famille car j’avais décidé que ne pouvais plus vivre à new York.” C’est en 2002 qu’elle retourna au japon et à l’âge de

39 ans elle donna le jour à une fille, vinrent plus tard 2 garçons. Elle revint à new York il y a deux ans, 7 ans après être repartie au Japon.

C’est en élevant ses enfants qu’elle se mit à faire des souliers et autres items pour bébés avec du tissu de kimono mais ce n’est qu’à partir de l’année dernière qu’elle lança une marque pour bébés et enfants “ubu Chitta”. “ubu” veut dire “innocent” en japonais et “Chitta” vient de l’italien “rassembler”. Selon Mme Sato “j’ai donné ce nom en imaginant des bébés innocents.” Elle fait des chaussures, habits et bavoirs pour bébés ainsi que des chapeaux pour enfants, des sacs, etc. “Tout est fait à la main donc cela prend beaucoup de temps à compléter.” C’est grâce à cela que l’on peut ressentir la chaleur dans ses créations.

À l’heure actuelle, ses produits sont vendus sur son site web ainsi que le site américain “Etsy”; Il est aussi possible que ses produits soient vendus à Toronto dans le “Distillery District” où se situe le magasin artisanal “distillery” ainsi que d’autres magasins artisanaux et galeries d’art.

“j’aimerais un jour avoir un magasin qui ne vend que mes produits, même s’il est très petit” dit Mme Sato. j’espère qu’un jour ce mariage unique de couleurs et d’originalité qu’est la marque ubu Chitta fera partie du Canada et que le monde de matériaux japonais se fera redécouvrir.

Ms. Nobuko Sato is an artist and craftsman who loves Japanese traditional culture and uses Kimono and Tenugui (hand towels) to create baby items and kid’s clothes.

After graduating from high school, Ms. Sato went to kyoto Zokei university and studied in the foreign paintings division. After graduation she worked as a successful illustrator. At the age of 28 she went to the home of modern art, New York City to seek further growth. She went to many art galleries to show her “Sumi-e (ink paintings).” She recalls, “I was somewhat successful as an artist in Japan so I wanted to see how my art would be seen in NYC but none of the art galleries showed any interest.” Finally, 6 years ago, she had a solo exhibition featuring her works done with a mixture of “sumi-e” and acrylic paints and she received great reviews. “When I was selling handpainted postcards on the street of New York City, a buyer from the famous department store Henri Bendel saw them and offered to buy all of my postcards.” After they bought all of the postcards, they also held a special exhibition at the gallery of the department store.

In 1999, while living in NYC she got married. She then experienced the 9/11 terrorist attach. “I was pregnant then, I was facing the fear of terrorism and also my visa problems. i decided i won’t be able to

live in NYC and moved back to Japan with my family.” In 2002 Ms. Sato and her family moved back to Japan and at the age of 39 she gave birth to a baby girl. She later had 2 sons. 7 years after she went back to Japan, she went back to NYC (this is two years ago).

While raising her children she was also making baby shoes and small things for babies with kimono materials. Last year she finally launched the baby and kid’s brand “ubu Chitta” and became serious about creating more. “ubu” means “innocent” in Japanese and “Chitta” means “gathering” in Italian. “I named it imagining innocent babies.” said Ms. Sato. She makes baby shoes, clothing, bibs, kid’s hats, bags, etc. “Everything is handmade so it takes a lot of time to finish.” Because of this you can feel the warmth in her creations.

She currently sells her products through her own website and the American web store “Etsy”. There are also possibilities that her products will be carried at a craft store “Distillery” in the Distillery district in Toronto where many art galleries and craft stores are located.

“in the future, even if it’s very small i want to own a store which carries only my products,” Ms. Sato says. I hope that one day the very original and unique color blend that is the ubu Chitta brand will be blended into Canada and at the same time the world of Japanese materials will be rediscovered once again.

Most Canadians have a few days off from work for Christ-mas, or “X-mas” for short, and most spend the day with close relatives or friends. Christmas day, December 25th, is tradi-tionally a family affair. The days leading up to Christmas, however, are enjoyed with friends, lovers, and acquaintanc-es alike and many corporate and social parties held to cel-ebrate the holiday. It is customary to exchange gifts, enjoy a special festive meal and, perhaps, attend a special church service on Christmas day or Christmas Eve. They celebrate Christmas in a similar fashion as other Western countries: Santa Claus, reindeer, Christmas tree, Christmas stockings, etc. though each country has its own unique traditions and symbols.

Christmas in Canada began as a religious holiday to cel-ebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, believed to be the son of God and the central figure of Christianity. Throughout the years, however, it has permeated popular culture so deeply that today, most people celebrate it in some form or other. It coincides with some holidays from other cultural or religious traditions (Hanukkah in Judaism and Kwanzaa in African-American culture,) so December is always a time of celebra-tion for nearly everyone in Canada.

Christmas is such a big deal, particularly in Quebec, that many people here have a party or holiday meal on Christ-

mas Eve as well. There are other traditions in Quebec that stand out as well; for example, it is customary to display Crèches or nativity scenes in homes as Christmas deco-rations. After midnight mass, families get together for "le réveillon" which is a Christmas banquet to eat tourtière (a pie of meat, potatoes and onions) or pork pie. Another favor-ite food is "Ragoût de Boulettes" (meatball stew.)

This Christmas, get together with friends, family, or your friends’ families to celebrate this wonderful holiday! The true spirit of Christmas is to love and appreciate this wonderful world we share with each other, in any way we can. So, you can celebrate it any way you like! Have a snowball fight with friends, go snowboarding, stay at home and read, relax and eat indoors… as long as you enjoy yourself!
