Board and Pick Up ProgramWe will keep your bulls and look after them for you up to a maximum of 30 days at no cost to you. You will be respon-sible for picking up the bull(s) any time prior to, but no later than May 1, 2015. Insurance protection is mandatory for this option. After May 1, a feed charge of $2.00/day will apply.

DeliveryFree delivery will be provided up to 200 miles on purchases totalling $3500.00 or more. Purchases less than $3500.00 will be delivered at cost. We will deduct $50.00 from the purchase price if you trailer them directly from the sale.

On behalf of Cockburn Red Angus we would like to welcome you to the annual Cockburn/Merit bull sale. We would also like to thank all of our buyers and bidders in the past sales, your support is greatly appritiated. The future of the beef industry has never looked brighter, we are experiencing all time high prices. With beef cattle numbers at a low, things are looking very positive for prices to remain strong for many years, select-ing a high quality sire will be very important in moving your cow herd in the right direction and getting top dollar out of your calves. Our bulls are developed with longevity in mind. They are fed to meet their potential to emphasize on muscle development, not to over fatten and jepordize there longevity and fertility. The bulls will all be fertility tested and gaurenteed breeders. We feel this group of bulls is one of our strongest yet, and consists of both easier calving bulls for heifers and higher performing bulls for cows. We spend countless hours and many miles sourcing some of the top genitics in the breed to ensure there is a bull to meet everyones needs. Due to a limited number of simmental bulls this year we have decided to offer them for sale off the ranch rather than in this years sale, but look for a strong group in next years sale. We make our living soley from our cattle. We have built our herd around strong cow families emphasizing on sound feet and legs, thick easy doing cattle with good udders, and herd sires with muscle, performance and doability as well as calving ease. Our purebred cows are ran on native grass along side our commercial cows with no special pampering or creep feed. We believe our cattle should work harder than we do and we cull strickly to ensure we stay on track.

Break Out was the high selling bull in the 2012 SSS bull sale. We purchased him on the strength of his sire and maternal strength of his dam, who is one of the most impressive cows in the very deep SSS cow herd and he has not disappointed. His first sons were the highlights in last year’s sale and will again be this year. We believe his real legacy will be through his daughters. They are phenomenal, soggy made, big ribbed, beautiful uddered females. Break Out’s influence will be a huge part of our herd in the future.

Big League was a feature bull in the 2011 Ter-Ron Farms bull sale. We bought 106X because we were impressed with this maternal sisters in both Ter-Ron and U-2 herds. The Big League sons are easy fleshing and stout and his daughters are also big ribbed broody females with excellent udders.

Busted 404B is a bull we are very excited about. He puts it all together being big ribbed, thick topped and big hipped. He is sired by Breakout who’s first sons topped our sale last year and his first daughters are now calving and look phnominal. Probably the best thing about this bull is his dam 133Y, she is a daughter of Cora 443P. 443P is the dam of Ribeye 308U and has made a huge impact on our herd through Ribeye as well as the 16 daughters we have currently working in our herd. 403B’s dam 133Y is a big ribbed perfect uddered female that is the kind we strive to produce.

The Merit focus has always been bull basics driven by our commercial customer base. Calving ease, good growth, high vigor, exceptional foot structure, great hair, good temperament, backed by sound and functional momma cows. 30 plus years of genetic predictability takes the guess work out of your purchase. Like our customers, we are the ones who provide the manual labour, so our tolerance for ‘management’ cattle is extremely low. It starts with cows that are designed with the capacity and hair coat to be efficient forage converters with feet and udders that will last into their teens without intervention, and sound maternal minds so they stay in the herd long enough to be profitable. 77 was purchased by Right Cross Ranch and Ringstead Ranch in our 2011 bull sale. There were so many things 77 had to offer to suit our program that we just couldn’t find anywhere else, that we used our in herd right to semen on him. 77 is a soft made, deep bodied performance bull with a great foot. We had high expectations for Iron Will when we purchased him as the $31,000 high seller at Bar E-L. Since then he has continued to impress us with his exceptionally consistent progeny. They are high performing, deep sided, hairy and sound… traits that we strive to produce for our bull customers. As a result of bylaw changes within the Canadian Angus Association, Merit will be retaining a “NON revenue” sharing interest in every bull we sell. This allows Merit to collect semen on any Merit bull in the offering for in herd use only. This will be done at Merit’s expense and the new owner’s con-venience. This is the same as in past sales but the change now means that ‘Merit’ will remain on the registration paper as an owner in order to satisfy association rules. This will apply to all bulls unless other terms are announced sale day.

No frills, functional females with the utmost attention paid to structure,

udders, disposition and do-ability. Our cows graze stockpiled grass as late as possible in the year, and when we are lucky and Mother Nature allows, even past Christmas. They are then fed hay bales with lick tubs on a half section until February. They are not supplemented with grain, fed silage or out swath grazing annual cereals.

Our females are taught to rustle for forage at an early age, with heifer calves being weaned on pasture and never confined to a ‘pen’ until it’s time for them to calve.

They are not perfect, but we are trying our damnedest to produce the best Merit Mommas possible. The Angus cow is still the best mother cow in the world, as long as we remember what got her there in the first

place. It sure wasn’t because of some numbers on a piece of paper.

Terms: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable at par at the sale unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made previous to the sale. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. All settlements must be made with the clerks of the sale before any cattle will be released. The auctioneer shall have the right to refuse bids from anyone who has a previous record of default in payment or who has not made proper credit clearance to the sale with the owner or Sales Manager.

Bidding: Each animal is to be sold to the highest bidder. No by-bidding will be permitted. A reasonable price base may be set.

Disputes: In case of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters is final.

Purchaser’s Risk: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time.

Announcements: Errors discovered in the catalogue will be corrected by announcements from the auction stand at sale time and such cor-rections will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are cautioned to pay close attention to announcements.

Certificate of registry: Each animal will carry papers issued by the Ca-nadian Angus Association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyers for each animal after settlement has been made.

Breeders Guarantee, bulls: Should any bull (14) fourteen months of age or over, fail to prove a breeder after being used on cows known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within (6) six months following date of purchase or (6) six months after the bull has reached (14) fourteen months of age. The seller will then have the right and privilege of (6) six months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze. In no event shall the seller be responsible for more than the purchase price. The sell-er is not responsible for damage caused by foreign bodies after the animal has been sold nor for sickness not apparent at sale time.

Exception guarantee: In cases where the animal was subjected to hormonal or surgi-cal reproduction techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void.

Settlement: Transportation charges on

animals returned to the seller are for account of the purchaser. No incidental expenses such as feed, care, A.I., signing fees, interest, veterinary charges, etc., will be charged by either party when making settlement. If the seller is successful in proving the animal in question to be a breeder, the said animal will be reclaimed by the purchaser at his expense. Should the seller fail to prove the animal a breeder, then the buyer is guaranteed a satisfactory replacement F.O.B. ranch or location of origin or a refund of the actual price. Should a dispute arise over the quality of the replacement animal, the Sale Management will appoint a mediator.

Accidents: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the sales manager, auctioneer, or sell-ers assume any responsibility in this matter and disclaim any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of accident or loss of property.

Mail or telephone bids: Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone or mail their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer, or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale.

Rights and obligations: The above terms and conditions of the sale shall continue a contract between the buyer and the seller and be equally binding to both.

Resale of animals following purchase in this sale shall constitute a separate transaction which is not covered by the terms and conditions of this sale.
