Moon Facts

1 moon day = 1 moon year This causes the same side of the moon to

face the earth all the time.

Page 4: CN: The Moon. The moon rotates on its axis. –1 moon day The moon revolves around the earth. –1 moon year. What are the two ways the moon moves in space?

• The changing relative positions of the moon, Earth, and sun causes the phases of the moon, eclipses, and tides.

• Unlike a total eclipse, a total lunar eclipse can be seen from anywhere on earth when the moon is visible.

The reddish tint happens because the Earth’s atmosphere bends some sunlight toward the moon.
