Middle aged couple Mary and Mike have decided to upgrade their house for the pos-sibility of a future sale. This project will be a small budget remodel which will focus on neutral palettes, a simple and contemporary aesthic, and easy functionality to appeal to potential future buyers. They want to upgrade their kitchen to a modern, contemporary look and create a functional kitchen with an eating area and trans-form an unfinished utility room to supply extra storage and a much-needed addi-tional bath room. This project will add new life and interest to this SE Portland home.

The kitchen is a small space which feels crowded and cut-off from the rest of the house. To maximize the functionality of the limited space and make it feel like it is part of the house, an open floor plan will be implemented, allowing the living and kitchen spaces to connect with each other, while retaining a seperate and very practical purpose in the kitchen layout. Smart storage and plenty of well-posi-tioned counter space will compensate for the limited square footage, while simplicity of form and color will maximize future market appeal. Aesthetics will be sleek but not cold, functional but inviting, and be easy to clean and maintain. The new kitchen will be complemened by a remodeled basement utility room which will provide a lot of storage, as well as add a very necessary additional bathroom.
