CLUB UPDATES:
Fall is upon us and tree leaves around the course have begun changing colors, the mornings have the crisp fresh-
ness of Autumn, and pumpkin patches can be spotted around town, including our own around the course and the
clubhouse! The origin of Calabasas’ name is rooted in different legend. Some believe it is from the Chumash word
for “where the wild geese fly” after the Canadian geese that migrate through the area each year. Others enjoy the
more colorful story of a Basque rancher from Oxnard spilling a wagon-load of calabaza (Spanish for “pumpkin”,
“squash” or “gourd”) en route to Los Angeles, and patches sprouting up the following Spring. Either legend being
true, both can be spotted around the course this fall.

COURSE MAINTENANCE
The bunkers have successfully been edged and all excess grass was removed through the end of October. However, the over-seeding process left seed in the bunkers, and has been germinating over the last few weeks. A regular in-spection will continue until all has been removed.
You may have noticed that there hasn’t been any divot sand on the tees for some time. The reason for this is the current program: Mondays and Fridays the section fore-men fill all divots on the tees. The goal of this program is to achieve a uniform coverage of divot mix and to add seed to aid in the healing process. Filling your divots/damage on the fairways, approaches, collars and roughs is still appreciated.
Please be reminded the course will be closed on the first Monday of every month for maintenance. A few hours of uninterrupted maintenance is truly necessary and will greatly benefit the overall productivity of the Maintenance Department.
We would also like to note that October marks forty-three years of service for Mr. Gary Williams of the Maintenance Department.
