Club Chatter
January, February, and March 2018
FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK:
Join us at the Women’s Club as we welcome 2018! We hope this year’s activities at the Club will add joy,
laughter, and new friendships in your lives. Arlene Peterson, our past President, succeeded in making the
Club a warm and welcoming second home. The new board will continue in her footsteps. And we hope
that our members will continue their support in this endeavor. Thank you Arlene!
In January, two new groups are forming:
1. “The Breakfast Club” - a monthly get-together for breakfast on various days of the
week at nearby restaurants. Each month we will have a sign-up sheet on the Credenza
with information of where and when for that month. Barbara Shapiro will head the
group. Our first breakfast will be held on Monday, January 22.
2. "Walk and Chat" - this group will meet every Tuesday and Thursday at 10 am to walk and chat
following the two sidewalk trails that leave from the Kuentz Center. Meet outside the Club at 10 am, and
we will get some exercise before the club opens. Our first walk in January will be Tuesday, the 9th.
Also in January, we will have a Souper Bowl Challenge here at the Club. We will need 8
volunteers to make their favorite soup and bring in crockpots. The Club will furnish
crackers and dessert. The soup of the day that wins the biggest applause will win a gift
card. The cost for our Souper Bowl Challenge will be $3, and all proceeds will be
donated to the SCW Community Fund. The Club will open that day at 1 pm for cards.
On February 14th, we will have our first general meeting of the year. Food will be served at 11:15 am and
be followed by a brief meeting. This year we will once again celebrate Valentine’s Day throughout the
week. On Thursday, February 15th the Club will be closed for TORCH.
On March 10th, the Kuentz Rec Center will host an Open House. Our Club
will have a table by our front door and share information about all our
activities. If you know of someone new in the community, please invite them.
On March 31, we will be serving our yearly “Thank You” Breakfast for the
Prides, Posse, and Fire men and women.

Note: This is our busy time of year so please be thoughtful and place your purses
and other items by you and not on the open tables. Tables fill quickly so be mindful of
your fellow members.
Additions and changes to our monthly schedules will appear in your E-newsletter, will be
posted on the bulletin board at the club, and shown on the calendar on our web site.
THURSDAY GAME DAY
Thursday Game Day is a great opportunity to learn a new game (or games) and,
even more importantly, make new friends! We encourage you to come alone and/or
use this as an opportunity to introduce our Club to a friend. You don’t have to
register – just show up at 12:30 pm and be ready to enjoy the afternoon.
PROGRESSIVE (SOCIAL) BRIDGE
Join a fun group of ladies who enjoy social bridge each Tuesday. This group has been playing for many
years but has room for more tables. Meet at the club at 11:30; seating is on a first come, first served
basis; play begins at 12:30 p.m. Four rounds of six hands are played. At the last table, the lady who has
the highest score at that table receives 50 cents from the other 3 ladies. For those who come early,
practice hands are played until the official start.
Social Bridge is also played each Saturday at noon. Sign-up is required one week in advance. Call Mona
Hiler at 623-215-5791. The same rounds are played and prize money is awarded.
3rd MONDAY POTLUCK LUNCHEONS: Luncheons will continue during the summer. We will need
additional help in the kitchen as some of our regulars will not be here. When you sign up to attend the
luncheon and, if you are willing, write in a W next to your name which indicates that you will help that day.
Your duties will be to arrive at 10:30 a.m., collect the food as members come into the club, put food in the
refrig or stove, make coffee, set up the tables, set the food out on the tables, etc., - and, as a reward, you
will be able to go through the buffet line first! Always a good thing! After the lunch, only the spoons are
washed so clean-up is done quickly and you can enjoy an afternoon of cards.
IMPORTANT – LUNCHEON RULES
Bring a dish to share that will feed 8-10 people. No crackers or chips. Bring desserts only if you have
signed up for desserts. All items should be cut and ready to serve. Please make sure they are not still
frozen. Do not bring spoons or serving utensils as they may get lost. After the meal, if you wish to save
your item, cover it and place in refrig or appropriate storage. The club will not wash your dish or put it
away. Your covers, aluminum wrap and plastic wrap will be next to the table after the meal. If you would
like others to take your left-overs home, leave them on the serving table or distribute to your friends.
Please remember that if you don’t participate in the luncheon, you are asked to wait until after 1 p.m. to
enter the club for cards. Also, if you did not bring food to share, please do not take food or desserts from
the buffet tables.

SUNSHINE COMMITTEE
If you know of someone who is ill or has lost a loved one, please advise our Sunshine
Chairperson, Janice Pavelka at 623-584-3377 so that a card can be sent. It is so
important to let our members know that we are thinking about them during their time of
distress.
REMINDERS
CLUB HOURS: Monday – Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 4 p.m.
MEMBERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES: Remember, it is your responsibility to monitor at least once during
the year to be a member in good standing. If you are concerned about making coffee or closing the club,
sign up with a friend to help you with the duties. Monitors are to arrive at the club at 10:45 a.m. and are at
the club until closing at 4 p.m. A Key Monitor always is there in the morning to help you open the club and
find the supplies. You may play games while monitoring but your most important duty is to welcome the
members, make sure they have signed in, and to give information to prospective members. Our monitors
are the ambassadors for the club and so important to the smooth operation of the club. Please click on the
link below to go to our web site for a printable, viewable, savable copy of the monitoring instructions.

ILLNESS: Be considerate of others. If you have something that can be shared, PLEASE do not bring it to
the club. We welcome you back after you are feeling better.
PERFUME: Consider others, please. Many people are unable to tolerate perfumes so leave it at home
when you visit the club.
FANS: If this is a problem, bring a jacket or sit away from the fans.
NOISE: Please try to be considerate of others but do realize that this is a social club and sometimes we
get a little noisy. If the noise bothers your group, try sitting in the long back room where it tends to be less
noisy. The most noise is experienced at tables on the dance floor where there is no carpet to help muffle
the talking.
PLAYERS NEEDED: There are flags available to use if you need another player at your table.
Let’s welcome new members into our groups.

A note about viewing and printing our emails:
With the proliferation of viewing device sizes, browsers, and email
interpreters, we cannot guarantee that our emails will view and print perfectly.
Our emails will view fine on computers, laptops, or larger tablets, but smaller
phone screens are sometimes an issue. (The SCW library offers computers
and printers for residents to use).
Printing of mass emails can never be accomplished perfectly because your
email provider's software will add its own headers and footers. As a result, we
always re-format our emails into a portable data format (pdf), which will always paginate correctly for
printing and viewing. You will find a link to this pdf file at the end of any email and also on the home page
of our web site, http://womensclub.scwclubs.com.
There are some federal laws that our email provider must follow when sending mass emails. Please be
careful not to click the SafeUnsubscribe icon at the end of any Women’s Club email or declare us as spam
since that will take you off our email list. You will be sent instructions to resubscribe, but this will only be
sent to you once and you must follow its instructions. A second email will be sent to verify your
resubscription. If your email provider bounces our emails to you, that will also remove you from our email
list. Bounced email addresses cannot be added back to the list.
If your email address changes or if you no longer wish to receive emails, please reply to any Women’s
Club email or leave a note at the clubhouse and we will delete you from our list.
Website addition: Our website now contains a monthly calendar with our activities. The calendar's view
menu allows for viewing by the day, week, month, or as a text list of dates.
