How to Insert Batteries

About the remote control.

AUTO--In this mode, the unit automatica%controls the room temperature within therange of 77°F and 68°F. The fan will runcontinuously while the unit is in AUTOmode.When the room temperature exceeds 77°F, theunit will go into COOLMode. When the roomtemperature drops to 73°F, the fan willcontinue to run but COOLMode will turn off.When the temperature drops below 68°F, theunit will go into HEATMode. When thetemperature reaches 73°F, the fan willcontinue to run but HEATMode turns off.NOTE:This temperature range setting cannotbe adjusted and will not be displaged.

¢_ COOL--Use to cool the room to the desiredtemperature set between 61°F and 86°F.NOTE:The unit will not provide optimumcooling if the outside temperature is below60°F. The two air filters behind the front grilleshould bechecked and cleaned at least everg 30 dags ormore often, if necessarg.

F2-] Pull the filter tab slightlg forward to remove thefilter. Clean the filter with a vacuum or warm,soapg water. Rinseand allow the filter to drgbefore replacing it.

r_ Reinsertthe filters and closethe front accesspanel.

NOTE: DONOToperate the sgstem without a filterbecausedirt and lint will clog it and reduceperformance.

Outdoor Unit

The heat exchanger coils and panel vents ofthe outdoor unit should be checked regularlg.If clogged with dirt or debris, the heat exchangerand panel vents should be professionallgcleaned.

NOTES:

m Power supplg must be disconnectedbeforecleaning the outdoor unit.

ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Becertain all wiring complies with local building codes andNECand that the supply voltage for this system iscorrect.The system supply voltage is connected to the outdoorunit only.

• Checkthe rating nameplate on the side panel of outdoorunit for requiredcircuit protection rating and required supplyvoltage.

UseUL-opprovedelectrical branch circuit disconnectfor providing supply voltage to split system indoor andoutdoor units. Locate disconnect within sight and readilyaccessibleper NECand local codes.

Allwiring should be rated appropriate for the current valuelisted on the rating plate.

• Becertain there is an uninterrupted, unbroken electricalground connection.

• Wiring should be encased in liquid-tight tubing withconnections sealed with liquid-tight connectors.

-&CAUTION:• Do not use on extension cord with this system.

• Aluminum building wiring mag present specialproblems-consult a qualified electrician.

• When the unit is in the STOPposition, there is stillvoltage to the electrical controls.

• Disconnect the power to the system beforeservicing bg removing the branch circuit fusesor turning the circuit breakers off at the panel.

• DO NOT use equipment certified for R22 refrigerantonly.

SELECT THE BEST LOCATION

r_ INDOOR UNIT

• Do not allow ang heat or steam near the unit.• Select a location where there are no obstacles

in front of the unit.

• Make sure that condensate drainage can beconvenientlg routed awag.

• Do not install near a doorwag.

• Ensure that the space around the left and rightof the unit is more than 6". The unit should be

installed as high on the wall as possible, allowinga minimum of 6" from ceiling.

• Use a stud finder to locate studs for mounting andto prevent unnecessarg damage to the wall.

• Install on studs and in a location from whichthe condensation water can be drained out

convenientlg and that permits easg connectionwith the outdoor unit.

• Do not cover the inlet and outlet so that the

outflow air can reach all parts of the room.

• Install in a location that is strong enough towithstand the full weight and vibration of the unit.

• Be sure that the installation conforms to the

installation dimension diagram.

• Leave enough space to allow access for routinemaintenance. The height of the installed locationshould be 79" or more awag from the floor.

• Install in a location that is 3 ft. or more awag fromother electrical appliances, such as televisions andaudio devices.

• Select a location that gives gou easg access toremove and clean the filter.

and anchoring method are adequate for the unitlocation. Consult local codes regarding rooftopmounting.

• Always mount the mounting plate horizontally.

• Attach the mounting plate at the selected locationwith screws supplied with the unit.

• Be sure that the mounting plate has beenattached firmly enough to withstand the weightof on adult of 130 Ibs. Also, the weight should beevenly shored by each screw.

• To let water drain and prevent damage to wiringand tubing, insert o 2V/' plastic pipe, cut to olength equal to the wall depth. Insert the tubingand wiring through the pipe.

• Copper tubing should be copped until ready toinstall flare fitting, to prevent contamination.

• For good drainage, the drain hose should beplaced at o downward slant.

• Do not wrench or bend the drain hose or allowit to contact standing water.

• The extended drainage tube in the room shouldbe wrapped with the insulating materials.

• Connect the copper tubing with the relevant uniontubes of the indoor unit and tighten the flare nutof the connection tubes.

NOTE: Be careful when bending the connectiontubes to ovoid damaging them.

2. Screw in the flare nut by hand end then tightenthe nut with spanner and torque wrench. See thetable below for the correct torque.

Install the connecting tubes of theindoor/outdoor unit.

DO NOT OPEN THE GAS VALVES UNTIL THEEVACUATION PROCESSIS COMPLETE.

Remove the gas line service port cap andconnect the gas valves of the vacuum gauge,vacuum pump and outdoor unit.NOTE: Connect bg using a 1/4" Female x1/2" Male Adapter Access Fitting (obtain Iocallg).

Start the vacuum pump. (Running time shouldbe more than 15 minutes.)

Check the vacuum with the vacuum gauge. Thegauge should read -30 in. Hg. After evacuation,fulls close the handle on the manifold valve(on the vacuum pump device). Then stop thevacuum pump and disconnect it.

6. The pressure should be kept for 1-2 minutesto confirm that the reading of the vacuumgauge does not change. The pressure shouldbe-30 in. Hg.

7. Remove the vacuum line and replace the serviceport cap.

8. Remove both the liquid and gas valve caps.

9. Open the gas and liquid valve entirelg, usingthe 5 mm Allen wrench. If this is not done, theperformance will be reduced, or an error willOCCUr.

_-_ TEST OPERATION AND CHECK AFTER INSTALLATIONTest operation

1. Before test operation

• Do not switch on power before installation is finished completely.

• Electrical wiring must be connected correctly and securely.

• Shut-off valves of the connection tubes should be opened.

• All impurities such us scraps and particulates must be cleared from the unit.

2. Test operation method

• Switch on power and press the ON/OFF pod on the remote control to turn on the air conditioner.

• Press the MODE pad and check the operation conditions of each of the modes.

i0,000 and 14,000 BTU models onlg:

• If the remote control is lost, the emergency run operation can be performed with a ballpoint penor similar object.

a. When the unit is off, set the handling switch to the AUTO mode.The unit will then automatically run in the mode selected bythe microcomputer system according to the surroundingtemperature. If you want to turn the unit off, press thehandling switch again.

b. When the unit is on, set the handling switch to the STOP mode to qturn off the unit.

20,000 BTU models only:

• If the remote control is lost, open the front access panel andperform the following:

a. Set the handling switch to the AUTO position to operate in theAUTO mode. Once there is a remote control signal, the unit willagain be controlled by that signal.

b. Set the handling switch to the STOP position to turn off the unit.

Has the refrigerant leak test been performed? Leakage may cause insufficient cooling capacity.

Does the unit drain well? Poor drainage con cause condensation and dripping.

Is the voltage correct according to the nameplate? Incorrect voltage may cause electrical malfunction. Diagnosticinformation is available for this unit. Contact your service technician.

Is the unit properly grounded? A nonsecure ground connection can cause damage.

Are the air inlet and outlet completely free of cover? Covering the air inlet or outlet may cause insufficient coolingcapacity.

Have the length of the connection tubing and refrigerant capacity been recorded? It is important to know thesethings for future reference.

Cold air is escaping. • Check for open furnace floor registers and cold airreturns.

Normal Operating Sounds

N'OUVREZ PAS LES ROBINETS DE GAZ AVANTOUE LE PROCESSUS DE PURGE NE SalT TERHIN@

Retirez le bouchon du port de maintenancede la conduite de gaz et branchez le robinet degaz au videm@tre, 6 la pompe 6 vide et 6 I'unit6ext@ieure.REMARQUE : Effectuez le branchement 6 I'aided'un adaptateur 1/4 po femelle x 1/2 po male,obtenu Iocalement.

Lancez la pompe 6 vide. (La pompe doitfonctionner un minimum de 15 minutes.)

V@ifiez le vide 6 I'aide du videm_tre. La jaugedoit indiquer -30 po Hg. Apr_s la purge, fermezcompl_tement la poign6e du robinetd'intercommunication (sur le dispositif de pompe6 vide). Puis arr@tez la pompe 6 vide etd@branchez-la.

6. Le sgst_me doit @re gard6 sous pressionpendant 1 6 2 minutes pour confirmer quela valeur affich6e au videm_tre ne change pas.La pression doit _tre de -30 po Hg.

7. Retirez la conduite de vide et remettez lebouchon du port de maintenance en place.

8. Retirez les bouchons des robinets de liquideet de gaz.

9. Ouvrez les robinets de gaz et de liquidecompl_tement, en utilisant la cl# Allen de 5 mm.Si vous n'ouvrez pas les robinets compl_tement,I'efficacit6 de I'appareil sera r6duite ou unprobl_me surviendra.

10. Remettez les bouchons en place et serrez-lescorrectement.

2. Procedure d'essai de fonctJonnement

• Branchez I'appareil et appuyez sur la touche ON/OFF (Marche/arr_t) de votre t616commandepour allumer le climatiseur.

• Appugez sur la touche MODE et v@ifiez le fonctionnement de chacun des modes.

Uniquement pour les modules 6 i0000 et 14000 BTU :

• Si vous avez 6gar6 la t616commande, I'appareil peut fonctionner en urgence en utilisant un stglobille ou tout objet similaire.

a. Lorsque I'appareil est 6teint, placez le commutateur sur le modeAUTO (Automatique). L'unit6 fonctionnera automatiquementdans le mode s61ectionn6 par le micro-ordinateur en fonctionde la temp@ature de la pi@ce. Si vous souhaitez 6teindre I'unit6,appugez 6 nouveau sur le commutateur.

b. Lorsque I'unit6 est allum6e, placez le commutateur sur le modeSTOP (Arr_t) pour cette derni_re, q
