Class ExpectationsClass Expectations

• Respect – I expect you to treat others as you would want to be treated

• Dillow Rule – I expect paper and other objects to stay on your desk and not fly across my room unless otherwise authorized during an Aerospace Activity

• Be Prepared – I expect you to bring all books, binders, paper, and pens/pencils to class

• I expect you to follow all rules and regulations specified in your SOI

Uniforms (BDU)Uniforms (BDU)

• I expect you to wear them on Tuesdays and other allowable days

• To wear BDUs, you must have a complete set of them– A complete set includes a blouse, pants, a

plain black or unit t-shirt, a cover, a black or blue belt with black open face buckle, a blue nametape, a blue Civil Air Patrol tape, CAP cutouts or cadet grade, and a wing patch; black boots and socks must be worn

• They may be found at an Army/Navy Surplus stores or you may purchase them from Chaplain Smalley if she has a pair that will fit you

• Cost varies on where you get them and the condition in which they are in

• Nametapes, Civil Air Patrol tapes, and other accoutrements may be purchased through the squadron

• The Blue Uniform must be earned – the Curry Achievement must be completed

• The Requirements– Leadership Test– Drill and Ceremonies Test– A Physical Training Test– Participate in Character Development– Behavior is also taken into account

• The blue uniform is provided by Civil Air Patrol National Headquarters and is the property of the Civil Air Patrol and the USAF

• If you do not choose to stay in the program, the uniform must be returned to the unit (in this case Lieutenant Colonel Smalley)

• You may wear a plain black t-shirt, squadron t-shirt, or a CAP t-shirt

• You may wear blue, black, or maroon athletic shorts

• You must wear socks with athletic shoes (no skater or flat bottom shoes or combat boots)

• You may wear blue, black, grey, or maroon sweats in the winter time

Regulation HairRegulation Hair• Cadets will have a regulation hair cut or

style– Males, this means that the hair must have “a

tapered appearance on both sides and back, both with and without headgear. A tapered appearance is one that when view from any angle outlines the individual’s hair so that it conforms to the shape of the head, curving inward to the natural termination point. Block cut permitted with tapered appearance” CAPM 39-1.

• Cadets will have a regulation hair cut or style– Females, they must keep their hair off of the

bottom of their collar and the hair must be “styled to present a professional appearance. Plain and conservative pins, combs, headbands, elastic bands and barrettes similar to the individual’s hair color are permitted to keep hair in place” CAPM 39-1.

• Lock Down – I will get the door lock and the curtain– One student will get the flashlight from my

desk– All students will go to the wall with the door on

it and will stand quietly until lockdown is over or until other instructions are given

– No student may use their cell phone during a lockdown because it could impede communications for the police

• Fire Drill– One quiet single file line lined up at the door– We will exit the building quietly through the closest

unblocked Exit Door (we go out the front doors next to the office)

– We will proceed to the empty parking lot and fill in an empty parking space

– Stay quiet line until the all clear is given or given new instructions

– No student may use their cell phone during a fire drill because it could impede communications for the fire department

• Air Quality– Bad Air Quality outside– All students and teachers stay inside

• Inclement Weather (Tornados/Severe Thunderstorms)– Students will sit along the walls of the classroom

as we are in an interior wall room– When told, students will duck and cover because

weather is imminent – When told, students will return to class or follow

new instructions– No student may use their cell phone during an

Inclement Weather situation because it could impede communications for the Emergency Responders

After School MeetingsAfter School Meetings

• After school meetings are a required part of the program if you wish to promote– Day: Tuesday– Time: 1630-1900 (4:30-7:00 pm)– Uniform: Uniform of the day (the assigned

uniform for each meeting)– A uniform is required to come to the meetings

once you have it or have been in CAP for 4 months

• When the bell rings, Cadets should be standing at the Position of Attention behind their seats

• Cadets will recite the Cadet Oath• Cadet will recite the Cadet Honor Code• Cadets will remain standing until told to sit

down. This does not mean talk.

• Headers on Papers• You must have one if you want a grade• Headers should include the following

– Full Name (Last, First)– CAP – Class period (number)– Date (Day Month Year; ei 27 August 2013)

• Going anywhere as a class in the school– Cadets will Fall In (one column only) – Cadets will be silent to leave the room– Cadets will be silent in the hallway so that we

do not disturb other classes

• Insubordination – insubordination will not be tolerated

• Books – You will bring your books to class with you everyday (you may leave them in the classroom as well)

• Late Work - Late work will be accepted according to the policies of the district. Class work not completed does not fall under this policy and will be due without exception the next day.

• Six Weeks Folder– You will need a folder (preferably blue) to put

your completed work in– You will turn in your work at the end of each

six weeks for a Test grade– Work will not be accepted without the folder– Folders may be purchased for $0.25

– If you need to go somewhere you must wait until all instruction is over

– Ask for permission – Sign out in the Sign In/Out book– You have three passes, after these have been

used, you will not be allowed to leave the classroom

– You will turn in a pass to get a pass from me– Pick up your pass from me – You cannot leave without a pass– Sign back in when you return to class– Return the pass to me

– You may work on homework for another class– When finished with work you will study either your

SOI or you will read your library book or you will be reading a book from my book shelf

• Tardy Policy– If you are late, you are tardy and it will be logged. – You will sign in to the Tardy Log with your name,

location you came from, and time you came into class– The consequences of accumulating tardies are

determined by the district, but you will receive a point in class for it as well

• Borrowing a Pencil– Ask– Bring something you want back and trade for

the time that you have the pencil (no shoes)– Return pencil and get your stuff back

• Buy a pencil– $0.25

• You will receive a “point” every time the teacher has to re-direct you for your behavior. This includes the following:– Talking without permission– In unassigned seat– Out of your seat– Throwing things– Out of dress code– Not working– Distracting others – Chewing Gum – if it is a distraction to you or others– And any other inappropriate behavior

Negative Consequences for Weekly Points

• 0-5 = Warning• 4 = Parent Contact• 6-8 = Detention• 9 or more = Referral• 3 in one day = Automatic Detention• 5 in one day = Automatic Referral CAPF 50 will also be filled out to be part of your

permanent CAP record

• You will receive a behavior/procedure grade each week in Civil Air Patrol– No Points = 100– Each point is -5 points from your grade
