NEWS RELEASE CITY OF TROY, OHIO APPOINTMENT OF FIRE CHIEF FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Mayor Michael L. Beamish is proud to announce that Assistant Fire Chief Matthew D. Simmons has been promoted to Troy Fire Chief, effective Monday, May 11, 2015. Chief Simmons was selected after an extensive written testing and assessment center process administered by the Troy Civil Service Commission. His starting salary will be $102,000 and his probationary period will be one year from his date of appointment. Chief Simmons became a member of the Troy Fire Department on February 21, 1999. He was promoted to the rank of Platoon Commander on July 6, 2005 and promoted to Assistant Fire Chief on January 1, 2007. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Management from Bluffton University. He is a certified Paramedic, Fire and Explosive Investigator, and Inspector. Recently Chief Simmons was selected by the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) to receive a full scholarship to become a member of the 2015 cohort program for his third year of attending the Fire Service Executive Development Institute (FSEDI). Chief Simmons, 41, was born in Piqua, Ohio. He served four years in the United States Navy and was attached to a Naval Construction Battalion. He participated in Operation Uphold Democracy in 1994 in Haiti as part of a United Nations Mission. He and his wife Amy have been married for 19 years and have an eight year old son, Judah. A promotion ceremony has been scheduled for Thursday, May 14, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of Troy City Hall, located on the second floor of 100 South Market Street. All are invited but those who are not able to attend can view the brief ceremony live online through the City of Troy website at http://troyohio.gov/562/Council-Chambers-Live-Stream.
