Edict, and the Mayor invited al l youngand ambitious people to actively takepart in the celegration of thi greatjubilee.

P resident of Nis City AssemblyPhD Mile Il ic said, during the

ceremonial opening of the Office, thatNis City authorities took care ofyoung people through numerousactctivities. On the next Session ofCity Assembly a decision on theconstruction of flats for youngscientists wil l be brought and al l thestudents with averaage mark 10.00wil l be rewarded, said President Il icand added they wanted to send amessage to young people that notonly future, but also the presencebelonged to them.

assistants to the Mayor Mrs.Dejana Stefanovic Kostic andMr. Jovan Stojkovic.

Mrs. Dejana StefanovicKostic wil l be in charge of

sustainable economicdevelopment and naturalresources while Mr. JovanStojkovic is delegated for theprojects in the economy andagriculture sector. Mayor Perisicsaid that he had complete trustthat new assistants would carryout their responsibi l ities withgreat commitment anddedication. Mr. Radan Il ic wasearl ier appointed the Assistantto the Mayor.

S tate Secretary for Youth NenadBorovcanin said that, in order to

solve big problem that young peoplehave-unemployment, everyone had tolook into his own eyes and start workingon the solution of this problem with moreenergy. Young kitten should not beunderestimated because it could be l ion's

cub. I wish to young people from Nis tobe l ions on the road to success, addedBorovcanin.

Y outh Coordination Office is locatedin the Center of the City, in the

pedestrian zone, and coordinator of thisOffice wil l be Mija Petrovic.

WOMEN’S EHF EURO 2012 LOCALORGANIZATIONAL COMMITTEE FORMED

T he Local Organizing Committee isconstituted from the representatives

from the Pol ice and Mil itary Forces andprivate security companies; also NisClinic Center ER department wil l beactively involved as wel l as al l the publ icuti l ity companies responsible formaintenance of electric power suppl ies,roads and traffic, greenery anddecorations; the management of theSports Hal l Cair wil l also be the part ofthe team. Nis Tourism Organization, asthe part of the Committee, wil l be incharge of promoting our city and toprepare special offers for the touristduring the championship. SerbianHandbal l Federation delegated 5members into the Committee.

S erbian Handbal l Federation SecretaryGeneral Bozidar Djurakovic said that

al l EHF standards wil l be respected in theorganization of this championship. Hepointed out tha Nis had always been theCity of Handbal l and that Handbal lFederation had always had the supportfrom the City.

N is City Mayor Zoran Perisic, who isthe Chairman of Local Organizing

Committee, expressed his hopes that theorganization of this top sports eventwould be organized to the best of theCommittee's abil ity paying specialattention to the security and he promisedto supervise daily the progress of theorganizational activities. Mayor Perisicinvited al l fel low citizens and the peoplefrom al l over Serbia to come to Nis andbe a part of this sports spectacle.

The Local Organizing Committee of the 2012 Women's EHF EuropeanChampionship met at Nis City Hall. Nis was the venue of the matches of

the Women's EHF EURO 2012 Preliminary Round Group B with the nationalteams of Sweden, France, Denmark and FYR Macedonia from December 4 toDecember 16.

T he Project is financed by GermanGovernment and target cities and

municipal ities. The value of the projectfor Nis is 149.672€, out of which 32% or48.000€ is financed by the City. 10cl ients in the area of crafts and craftproducts (jewelry making, femaleleather products, production ofdecorative candles and similar) and 30

cl ients in services area were supported.This was the first cycle in Nis whereparticipation of younger than 35 wentbeyond expectations and made 60 %while the gender participation ofsupported women was 53%.Beneficiaries of the project wil l receiveequipment in the value of 2.400€ thatwil l help them to secure work and

selected small enterprises signed contracts on donation in the City Hall.

HELP FOR YOUNGENTREPRENEURS

NEWLY APPOINTEDAMERICAN AMBASSADOR IN NIS

According to the Mayor, thecooperation with the state which

was the world economy leader was oneof the priorities for the City. We wantto show that American capital iswelcome in Nis and we wil l workdil igently on attracting new investorsfrom this big country in the period tocome, as Mayor Perisic said. HisExcel lency, USA Ambassador in Serbia,Mr. Michael Kirby, said he was lookingforward to getting introduced with thepotentials of Nis in the area of healthcare and economy.

Earth Capital visited the site of thefuture residential and commercialcomplex in Nis. Mayor Perisic said thathe was fascinated with the approachthat the company had and with theircare for environment. Business andresidential twenty-floor high tower,business center, shopping mal l , tworesidential complexes, recreationalaqua park, tennis courts, Olympicswimming pool , university campus withstudents' dorm, medical center andluxury vil las are envisaged to be builton the location of ex-mil itary barracksknown as Bubanjski heroji . At thebeginning of December the cal l fortender wil l be publ ished for demolitionof the existing facil ities on that site

which would mark the beginning of thefirst phase of works. One part ofconstruction material after thedemolition wil l be recycled or, ifpossible reused for the construction ofnew facil ities.

L ater on the two officials visitedClinical Center Nis - Center for

Pacemakers within the CardiologyClinic and the future Cardio SurgeryDepartment. Mayor Perisic introducedAmbassador Kirby with the work of theCenter for Pacemakers. „ If weconsider the Coronary Unit and itsfuture Cardio-Surgical Departmenttogether with Niska Banja SpaRehabil itation Center, we get acontemporary hospital concept thatcan offer its services to foreign citizensthrough health and recreationaltourism", said Perisic. The director ofClinical Center Nis, PhD ZoranRadovanovic said that exchange ofexperience with other cl inical centersin the world was very important andthat, in that sense, Ambassador Kirbycould assist and help medical expertsfrom Nis to get vocational training inAmerica. PhD Dragan Mil ic, Director ofCardio-Surgery Department andvascular surgeon whose expertise iswel l known around the world,especial ly in the USA, presented thedepartment.

Newly appointed USA Ambassador in Serbia, H.E. Mr. Michael Kirby, spent a day in Nis during his first officialvisit. At the official reception at Nis City Hall Ambassador Kirby and Mayor Perisic discussed the importance

of American investments in this area through the companies Srbija Turist and Clean Earth Capital.

regular income. They wil l have toregister their companies, undergobusiness and professional trainings andreturn 20% of the donatedequipment/suppl ies total value andperform 15 hours of community work.

N is City Mayor Zoran Perisicthanked the humanitarian

organization Help for the assistancethat they had been providing to citizensin starting-up their own enterprisesand stressed out that those 40contracts were very important for theCity of Nis. You are given a chance tocreate your own destiny, to earn moneyfor your own existence and I would l iketo see you again in few months to seewhat you have achieved. Trust ofinvestors in Serbia and Nis is regained. Ihope that there would be more projectsl ike this in the future, as Mayor Perisicsaid and added that one of the strategicgoals of the Republ ic of Serbia was thedevelopment of smal l and mediumenterprises.

M anager of the Project for SouthSerbia Masa Bubanj emphasized

that this humanitarian organization

would continue making efforts in thefuture in order to address people'sneeds and that they would strive tomake this project successful . This is thefourth time that German Governmenthelps Nis citizens. Unti l now, throughthis project, we have employed 317citizens. We know that Nis has around36.000 unemployed and this is ourmodest contribution to the reduction ofthis number, said Masa Bubanj. Shealso said that from the beginning of theprogram 4300 activities had beensupported throughout Serbia, most ofwhich had been financed by theGovernment of the Republ ic ofGermany, while the main partner hadbeen the City of Nis.The LocalOrganizing Committee is constitutedfrom the representatives from thePol ice and Mil itary Forces and privatesecurity companies; also Nis ClinicCenter ER department wil l be activelyinvolved as wel l as al l the publ ic uti l itycompanies responsible for maintenanceof electric power suppl ies, roads andtraffic, greenery and decorations; themanagement of the Sports Hal l Cair wil lalso be the part of the team. NisTourism Organization, as the part of

the Committee, wil l be in charge ofpromoting our city and to preparespecial offers for the tourist during thechampionship. Serbian Handbal lFederation delegated 5 members intothe Committee.

NEW USAID SUSTAINABLE LOCAL DEVELOPMENTPROJECT DIRECTOR VISITED NIS

Mayor Perisic said that al l theproject initiatives were more than

welcome; however, he pointed out thatit was important that citizens in Nis andin South Serbia had clearunderstanding of the benefits thatUSAID SLD Project had been bringing.USAID has proved many times that itwanted to improve the work of local

self-governments in Serbia and tocontribute to better understanding ofthe true cooperation between Serbiaand USA, which was important sincethe American capital was entering thelocal market through investmentprojects being real ized in Nis.

C ity of Nis is the biggest local self-government with the inter-

municipal area of Nis – Leskovac –Doljevac – Merosina – Gadzin Han andit should be the center of economiccooperation. According to Mr. OckmanNis had the potentials which werelacking in other municipal ities referringmostly to human resources. On theother hand, Nis lacks the big landproperties where big investments couldbe real ized, and that was why it wasnecessary to strengthen this inter-municipal cooperation and join efforts,initiate actual projects which wouldboost the employment and empoweringthe private sector.

Nis City Mayor Zoran Perisic met with the new Director of USAID Sustainable Local Development Project Mr.Howard Ockman. On this occasion Mayor Perisic and Director Ockman exchanged their thoughts on the

previous experience in the project implementation and new ideas for future cooperation.

H The reception was attended by aState Secretary from the Ministry

of Internal Affairs, Mr. Vladimir Bozovicand representatives of humanitarianorganization "Love your Neighbour" fromNiš.

H umanitarian organization"Blythswood Care", in cooperation

with humanitarian organization "Loveyour Neighbour" donated a fire engine tothe Sector for Emergecy Situations of theMinistry of Internal Affairs in Niš. Volvofire engine is equiped with excel lentequipment for emergency situations andmini ambulance.

M ayor Perisic thanked for thedonation and stressed out that his

main objective was absolute safety of thecitizens.

"I would like to thank for this, forour City big donation, that will

help our City to become a safe city inthese difficult times when any kind ofhelp is welcome for us. Sector forEmergency Situations in Niš has beenfacing big problems in the last few years,especially when there floods and fireshappen more frequently and anykind oftechnical assistance means a lot to us,said Mayor Perisic.

SCOTS DONATEDA FIRE ENGINE

Mayor of Niš, MD PhD Zoran Perisic hosted a reception for a delegationof firemen from Scotland - representatives of humanitarian organi-

zation "Blythswood Care".

AMERICANDONATION FOR NIS

GERONTOLOGYCENTER

T he Contract on Donationof 300.000 US $ were

signed between therepresentatives of the USEmbassy in Belgrade Office ofDefense and the officials of theNis Gerontology Center. Thedonation is intended for theconstruction of the facility forday care of the older citizenswith dementia problems.

"It is our responsibilities toprovide dignified old age

for the beneficiaries of suchcare homes. This donation is astep forward in this direction.The future home will be 250 m2big and it will satisfy allnecessary standards foraccommodation of old citizenswith dementia problemsproviding the services if daycare", as Mayor Perisic said.

T he funds for this donationwere secured by United

States European Command(EUCOM) and US Embassy inBelgrade. Drew Gibl in from USEmbassy expressed hissatisfaction because of thereal ization of this project whichwould improve the qual ity of l ifefor the citizens and he reiteratedhis bel ief that by this kind ofdonations US Embassy becamethe part of this community.

T he symposium was organized byCity of Nis, RS Ministry of

Agriculture, Austrian AgriculturalCluster, Cheese Cluster South and theAssociation of Cattle Breeders. Themain objective of this symposium wasto build capacities of the professionalsin the sector of dairy production and topromote the cooperation with Austrianpartners.

D uring their meeting Mayor Perisicand Ambassador Eigner discussed

the oncoming celebration of Edict ofMilan jubilee and the ways for Nis toattract the people from Austria to comeand visit Niš especial ly during thecelebration of this jubilee. MayorPerisic said that both cities, Niš andVienna, were the imperial cities andthat existing bond was made on thehistoric and cultural heritage whichshould be the base to start and developfurther cooperation. AmbassadorEigner pointed out that his coming toNis was his first official visit aftertaking over the office in Belgrade. He

expressed his optimism in regard topotentials of future economiccooperation. Ambassador Eigneragreed with Mayor Perisic that thecelebration of 17 centuries of Edict ofMilan signing was an excel lent

opportunity for Nis to promote itspotentials and its rich cultural andhistoric heritage and that Embassywould try to assist and mediate inpromoting these potentials in Austria.

AMBASSADOR OF AUSTRIAIN NIS

Nis City Mayor Zoran Perisic met with H.E. Mr. Johannes Eigner, the Ambassador of Austria at Nis City Hallduring the Ambassador’s visit to Nis on the occasion of the symposium entitled Austrian Way to High

Quality Sector in Dairy Industry Symposium.

FREE ZONE SOUTHCAPACITY BUILDING

Upon the completion of the Project of Free Zone South Capacity Building which was implemented incooperation with LEDIB the press conference was held at Nis City Hall to present the project results to the

public.

N is City Deputy Mayor LjubivojeSlavkovic spoke about the

importance of free zones and thankedLEDIB for supporting this project with1 .200.000,00 RSD. The implementationof this project represents the mainprecondition for the strengtheningeconomic potentials of the city and theregion. "The projects l ike this on raisethe competitiveness of the regionincreasing the comparative advantagesand thus attracting more investors andconsequently creating more new job.The City of Nis wil l continue to supportthe projects which can help in speedingup the economic development by using

the given potentials and by creating thefavourable cl imate for serious directforeign investments" as Vice MayorSlavkovic said.

B oban Matic, Director of Free ZoneSouth said that the zone covered

the area of 28,5 hectares and that itrepresented the importantcommunication tool for the City fromthe aspect of visual izing the capacitiesfor future investments. Speaking aboutthe final ization of the project Maticexpressed his satisfaction withachieved results and added that duringthe implementation of the project Nis

City project implementation team hadthe chance to go on a study tours toTurkey to see how free zones werefunctioning there. Also the delegationvisited the free zones in Novi Sad andSubotica.

T he film was dedicated to themeeting of two pilots from

different sides. One was the pilot of anF-invisible 1 17A, another soldier whocommanded the unit that it was shotdown. Their first meeting was on theradar and 12 years later decided tomeet and get to know. This is a humanstory of a unique encounter.

T he premiere in Nis was attended bytwo main protagonists of the fi lm,

the pilots Dale Zelko and Zoltan Dani,the US Embassy in Belgrade Culturalattaché J . Drew Gibl in and Nis CityMayor Zoran Perisic, who greeted theguests on this occasion.

T he film is co-financed by theMinistry of Culture of the Republ ic

of Serbia, Provincial Secretariat ofCulture of AP Vojvodina, U.S. Embassy,Belgrade, Balkan Trust for DemocracyFund, the City of Nis and City ofApatin, Municipal ities of Medijana andPantelej and different sponsors frombusiness community.

T The main objective of thissymposium is to build capacities of

the professionals in the sector of dairyproduction and to promote thecooperation with Austrian partners.

I n his welcoming address, Nis CityMayor Zoran Perisic pointed out theimportance of such professional

gatherings which were the greatopportunity for the farmers and cattlebreeders from this region to learn fromtheir col leagues from more developedEuropean regions.

"It is our task to make the planfor the future investment into

agricultural sector and to master the

modern technology. We do have thenatural resources but they areinsufficiently used" as Mayor Perisicsaid.

H .E. Mr. Johannes Eigner, theAmbassador of Austria in Serbia,

attended the opening part of thesymposium. Mr. Anton Wagner, thepresident of the Austrian AgriculturalCluster and the president of theAustrian National Association of Cattlebreeder also welcome d theparticipants.

AUSTRIAN WAY TO HIGH QUALITYSECTOR IN DAIRY INDUSTRY

The Symposium entitled Austrian Way to High Quality Sector in Dairy Industry has been opened today. Thesymposium is organized by City of Nis, RS Ministry of Agriculture, Austrian Agricultural Cluster, Cheese

Cluster South and the Association of Cattle Breeders.

PREMIERE OF THE DOCUMENTARYSECOND MEETING IN NIS

A fter the premiers in Belgrade, New York, Washington and Novi Sad, the cinema audience in Nis had thechance to see Second Meeting, a new documentary by Zeljko Mitrovic, the author from Nis.
