Club News and Events This!is!it,!the!final!newsletter!of!the!2013/14!committee!year!!It’s!been!one!hell!of!an!exciting!year!for!me,!and!an!equally!exciting!year!for!the!club.!!We’ve!had!some!great!meetings,! some!great!workshops,!and!some!even!greater! socials.! ! The!club!has!gone!from!strength!to!strength!and!the!next!committee!can!take!over!safe!in!the!knowledge!that!City!of!London!Toastmasters!is!still!the!best!club!in!London!!

What’s'been'happening?'

Unbelievable'Truths'

We!had!a!whole!night!of!lying!and!bending!the!truth.!!There!was!some!excellent!weaving!of!intricate!tales!of!deception!by!the!members!of!all!3!of!the!clubs!involved.!!Special!thanks!to!1st!London!Toastmasters,!and!Broadgate!Speakers!who!made!the!night!a!great!success.!

In!the!end,!it!was!Adam!Renn!from!1st!London!Toastmasters!whose!pants!were!on!fire!!The!CoLT!might!not!have!taken!the!prize,!but!perhaps!that!just!shows!what!honest!people!we!are!!

International'Speech'Contest'&'Evaluation'Contest'

After!smashing!his!way!through!the!Area!level!contest,!Ga!Lok!went!though!to!compete!at!the!Division!level!contests!lin!April.!It!was!a!hard!fought!contest,!with!the!crèmeUdeUlaUcrème!of!the!whole!of!our!division!(encompasing!the!East!of!London)!all!viing!hard!for!the!top!spot.!

The!standard!was!incredibly!high,!with!some!excellent!speeches!and!evaluations!performed!by!all.!!Ga!Lok!put!in!an!outstanding!performance!in!the!evaluation!contest!and!was!narrowely!pipped!into!2nd!place!by!Jenny!Crossley,!who!went!on!to!place!2nd!at!the!UK!and!Ireland!Division!Contest.'

Speech<a<thon<a<la<curry'

If!you’ve!ever!come!away!at!the!end!of!a!meeting!feeling!hungry!for!more,!then!you’re!not!alone.!!On!the!29th!May!we!finally!answered!the!question!of!what!comes!next!–!and!it!turns!out!that!it’s!curry!!!After!a!packed!agenda!of!5!speeches,!we!headed!off!to!Brick!lane!for!our!biggest!club!social!to!date.!!Subsidised!by!the!club,!and!with!free!naan!bread!on!the!house,!we!discussed!the!merits!of!travel,!had!one!to!many!Cobras,!and!found!out!exactly!where!Bengal!is!'!

Conference'

The!conference!in!May!was!the!very!last!conference!for!District!71!in!its!current!configuration!that!includes!the!whole!of!the!UK!and!Ireland.!!It!was!also!the!finals!of!the!International!Speech!contest!at!Evaluation!Contest!at!that!level.!!!Christine!and!Ga!Lok!headed!over!to!Ireland!to!enjoy!a!full!weekend!of!contests,!workshops,!dinner,!dancing!and!good!times.!!Take!a!look!at!the!blog!for!Christine’s!full!review:!

Vice'President'Mentoring'Responsible!for!maintaining!the!mentoring!program!and!ensuring!that!all!club!members!are!paired!up!with!a!suitably!experienced!mentor.!

Club'Secretary'Responsible!for!club!records!and!correspondence;!keeps!an!accurate!record!of!the!meetings!and!activities.!

Club'Treasurer'In!charge!of!the!money!!!Keeping!it!safe,!and!doling!it!out.!

Sergeant'at'Arms'Sets!up!the!venue!before!each!meeting,!greets!the!guests,!and!tidies!up!afterwards!!
