This photo was taken in 1938 after the bank merger of Moscow State Bank and Citizens State Bank. Picturedleft to right are Sam Gish, vice-president; T. A. Dudley, cashier; Eva Spurgeon, assistant cashier; and EmmettReardon, assistant cashier. T. A. Dudley had served as cashier for MSB, and both he and Eva Spurgeonserved on the MSB Board of Directors. Emmett Reardon had been assistant cashier at MSB prior to movingto CSB. Sam Gish had been an officer at CSB before the merger.

The original brick building at Sixth and Main was dedicated in 1925. The ceremony took place May 2 and in-cluded local talent performing musical numbers and a one act playlet.

In 1913 When the CitizensState Bank was organized...the first board of directors in-cluded president E. W. Joslin,Chas. Summers, Lee Larrabee, J. A.Christopher, R. M. Crawford, JohnA. Firmin and R. T. Beaty. The bankstockholders included J. A. Gre-gory, I. A. Stoner, J. E. Bane, D. C.Bane, Richard Joyce, J. F. Parsons,N. C. Mason, J. C. Mason, A.E.Asher and Frank Summers. Whenthe Citizens State Bank opened itwas staffed by Joslin and cashierW. H. Huffman.

In 1935 CSB assumed the deposits

of Hugoton First National Bankand in 1937, CSB merged with

Moscow State Bank.

A Portion Of The New BankBuilding Is On The Original Lo-cation.The Citizens State Bank first con-ducted business in April of 1913 ina new building that was described inan early Hermes account as being,“just south of the Hamby Hotel”. TheHamby Hotel location is now 25 feetto the north of the current CitizensState Bank building. The bank ex-panded into that location on itstwelfth anniversary. The HambyHotel reportedly “. . .was moved be-hind the Porter Drug Building acrossthe street to the north.”

Bank Size DoublesIn 1966 an addition was added to the south of the

original bank building. The addition doubled thesize of the bank. At that time Dudley was the presi-dent, Reardon was the cashier and Walter Youngwas the assistant cashier.

Young became president of the Citizens StateBank in 1975. Dudley continued to serve as an ac-tive officer of the bank until his death April 1, 1983.Reardon retired from the bank as a vice presidentin 1974.

The bank more than dou-bled ground floor space, provided loan offices withmore privacy, and introduced customers to the drive-up window.
