our edge is your edge

Our Edge is Your Edge With nearly 20 years of industry experience, we’ve been simultaneously exploring, mapping, and creating the complex environment of solutions outside of the OEM’s singular model. Let us help you leverage a product lifecycle defined by your business’s needs and technical requirements, rather than End of Sale (EoS) notifications. The OEMs want to continue selling new hardware while maintaining costly maintenance contracts in an effort to keep their business profitable, but does the 3-5 year life cycle for network infrastructure which was largely based on its datacenter counterparts of compute and storage still make the most sense for your business? Compute and storage capacity are continuously increasing as the market demands more, but network technology has outpaced the services its supporting by 5-10 years. Network hardware is also largely solid-state technology and does not have the “always on” parts that make servers and storage life expectancy significantly different. So why has most of the market continued to upgrade hardware beyond its need? The reason is they had to. Just 10 years ago there were no alternatives for Cisco support. The availability of software updates, hardware replacements, and technical support were defined by the OEM. Edge-IP and changes in Cisco’s software update policy have paved way for an additional purchasing and support strategy. Edge-IP offers superior technical support by utilizing only CCIEs for every incident. Hardware replacements are supported by our vast inventory and stocking locations. And software updates are available through 2 channels provided by Cisco if software updates are even needed or currently in development. Let us help you leverage a new product life cycle by developing a support plan based on the solutions you have in place. A strategy leveraging previous generation hardware will save your business money as well as lower your exposure to unexpected downtime. The OEM’s desire to improve these platforms has been forcibly comingled with a business’s need for the improved platforms. Imagine if we were forced to purchase new cars every 3-5 years because new models were released. Thank you for the opportunity to complete this analysis. We hope you find the information helpful.

Software Availability:

The table below outlines software entitlement. Although possibly surprising, Cisco has offered access to IOS updates to

any campus hardware Catalyst 4500 and below. For a link to Cisco’s bulletin, please ask your Edgeium representative.

Additionally, many items may be outside of Cisco’s software development window.

As of this renewal, $1,035,239.56 towards SMARTnet on the below devices is only providing hardware replacement

and/or tech support when needed. We can provide these services for much less while offering additional benefits to

you such as up/down monitoring and replacing older models with more current generation models.

Mean Time Between Failure Analysis

On most of Cisco’s campus and access hardware, a Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) number is specified which uses

technical data on the solid-state components within a piece of hardware that provides an average lifetime of that

particular piece of hardware. Any hardware that has passed this date we recommend for replacement.
