FIRST CIRCULAR 8th INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON GRAPEVINE TRUNK DISEASES

organized jointly by the

INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL ON GRAPEVINE TRUNK DISEASES (ICGTD)

and UNIVERSITAT POLITÈCNICA DE VALÈNCIA (UPV)

18 -21 June, 2012 Salón de Actos de la Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería Agronómica y del Medio Natural.

Universitat Politècnica de València, Valencia, Spain The International Council on Grapevine Trunk Diseases, ISPP Subject Matter Committee on Grapevine Trunk Diseases, is pleased to invite you to the 8th International Workshop on Grapevine Trunk Diseases (IWGTD) that will be held in Valencia, Spain, on 18-21 June 2012, at the Salón de Actos de la Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería Agronómica y del Medio Natural of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV). The workshop, organized jointly with International Council on Grapevine Trunk Diseases (ICGTD) and the Universitat Politècnica de València with the support of the International Society for Plant Pathology (ISPP) and of the Mediterranean Phytopathological Union (MPU), will dedicate special attention to the Etiology, Epidemiology and Control of Grapevine Trunk Diseases such as Esca and Petri disease, and those caused by Diatrypaceae spp., Botryosphaeriaceae spp., Cylindrocarpon spp. and related pathogens. The workshop, held every two years, provides a very good opportunity to receive up-to-date information on grapevine trunk diseases. A general overview of the results so far obtained on various aspects of trunk diseases will be presented by different lecturers. Previous workshops were held in Siena, Italy (October 1999); Lisbon, Portugal (September 2001); Christchurch, New Zealand (February 2003); Stellenbosch, South Africa (January 2005); Davis, California (September 2006); Florence, Italy (September 2008) and Santa Cruz, Chile (January 2010). The workshop scientific program will consist in oral and poster presentations. The Scientific Committee including the ICGTD Council members, reserve the right to change your application from an oral to a poster presentation if time constraints make it advisable. As in past workshops, we hope the program will promote scientific, social and cultural interaction in a relaxed and congenial atmosphere. You are encouraged to take some days off after the workshop to discover Valencia http://www.turisvalencia.es/en/home. Valencia is located on Spain's eastern Mediterranean coast. The city contains a dense monumental heritage, outstanding museums and has nice sandy beaches. It enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate with long, hot and dry summers, and mild winters. The agriculture in the region is mainly based on citrus, rice, horticultural crops and grapevines. Thus, the Valencian gastronomy is of great variety, although their more international dishes are rice based, like the Valencian paella known worldwide. We are looking forward to hearing from you and seeing you in Valencia, Spain. Josep Armengol
