Nine of the crashes involved motor vehicles and six of the victims were not wearing seat belts. Single-fatality crashes occurred in Bath, Christian, Clay, Jefferson, Logan, Ohio, Simpson and Union counties. The suspected use of alco- hol was a factor in the Bath County crash. One double-fatality motor vehicle crash occurred in Spencer County. One pedestrian involved crash occurred in Greenup County. Through Jan. 22, prelimi- nary statistics* indicate that 36 people have lost their lives on Kentucky roadways dur- ing 2012. This is 11 more fatalities than reported for the same time period in 2011. There were 32 motor vehicle fatalities and 18 of those vic- tims were not wearing seat belts. Four of those crash- es involved a commercial motor vehicle. Three crashes involved a pedestrian. One crash involved a motorcycle and the victim was wearing a helmet. A total of five fatali- ties have resulted from crash- es involving the suspected use of alcohol. Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800- 222-5555. Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if pos- sible. *These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforce- ment agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas. Perry Anthony Bell, 24, of 11 Blossom Lane in Lebanon was sentenced to five years in prison in Marion Circuit Court recently after his pro-bation was revoked on an underlying charge of theft by unlawful taking over $500.
